Immensely proud of my Celtiberian heritage. My family hails from Asturies, Galicia and Northern Portugal.
Celiberian were not from there, they were from Eastern Castille and Aragon.

Not just Spain the Phoenician alphabet is identical minus three syllables to the ancient Irish dialectic, which makes sense since the Gaelic (Irish) spoke to this day is closest to the Spanish Dialect of Celtic tongue, we are United in more ways than one brothers and sisters of the beautiful Middle East, they can’t hide our history!

In the Irish book of invasions they claimed the Milesians (Celts with a chief named Mil) came from Spain. It's talked about in the Tuathe De Danaan. Fomorians, Fir Bolg, Danians, Fionn warriors and then the Milesians.

Wherever they originated, the Celts of Ireland are widely believed to have migrated there from Spain. The central europe theory is no longer valid as it has become more of a religion among mainstream academics and the like.

It´s a great explanation in 28 minutes. It has been missed the Thartessians and others, but obviously those 3 are the most important of the Ancient Times in Spain
The ancient Tartessians are extremely important. There was an ancient wealthy city not far from Cadiz perhaps between Cadiz and Huelva. Historians still debate.... which prospered precisely with the trade to the east of those precious metals. But the video is about the colonists who came after.

I decided to look up the history of Iberia because my DNA showed that my heritage/ethnicity included 14.5% from the peninsula along with 7.8% of North Africa which fits right in with the history you presented. The great problem is that the majority of foreighners knows the south part of spain(one who was influence by arabs) or mediterranean lands(influenced by romans). But the reality that in spain still lives the original celtic iberian lands with beautifull valleys sourrounded by mountains.

I´ve lived and worked in Galicia over the course of 5 years, first from 2011-2015, and now... never had I heard the term "Gallegan" before seeing this video, and I´ve studied the language, having acheived a B2/Intermediate level in the language. When in Galicia or Spain, go with "Galician" or just the word in Spanish, "Gallego", unless you are particularly inclined to seeing people´s faces twist into a question mark...
Great and informative video. Why was Northern Portugal completely excluded since it has the most Celtic castro settlements in the north east of the peninsula? Also Galicia and Portugal (the gal part) get their names from the Celtic Gallaeci tribes defeated by the romans near Gaia (ancient Gale or Cale) in present day Portugal

Spain is being used as an English word for Hispania, we obviously are aware that Portugal is a different independent country but whilst the name of Portugal doesn't appear until the reconquista the name of Spain exists since fenician times (Spanie) referring to the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, the Greeks called it Iberia bit this is a latter term and it refers to the river Iber (Ebro) and the Iberian people who were not of celtic origin but most likely native to Hispania so if they call it Spain which really means Hispania and you don't like it, imagine if they called it the Iberian Peninsula which refers to the Iberian tribes who lived along the Mediterranean coast, that is not only leaving Portugal out it's leaving most of modern day Spain out too.
Honestly if we refer to Britannia are we referring to the isle of Great Britain or just the Roman province which didn't include the northernmost part of England and the entirety of Scotland?

The moors in the very southern portion of the peninsula and Germanic tribes all over the peninsula. I'm sure theres other invaders. But most invaders only influenced the peninsula culturally and not genetically.
I had one of those Ancestry DNA tests. It showed I have DNA from places in the Celtic migration trail: Northern Italy, Central Spain, Central Portugal, Wales, England and the Basque country (maybe the Basques have Celtic blood too). That is no coincidence.

In this time period there is no Portugal or Spain. Therefore the correct term is Iberian peninsula and it's various peoples and settlements. Just as mentioned on the video.

Er... well, it's nice to see a course in which they talk about my country, but more specifically about my land, Galicia. There are some inaccuracies here and there, such as using the word "province" to refer to it, as Galicia is one of Spain's "Autonomous Communities", and this Autonomous Communities are then divided into different provinces (or not, as some of them: the Balearic Islands, Murcia, La Rioja, Asturias, Cantabria and Navarra, consist of one province, but not Galicia, which has four) but calling our language, I'll repeat, language, a dialect... that's simply wrong.

@@TheGreatCourses you are welcome. It's not mine but common knowledge here in Spain. Mind you, the word "province" may refer to different actual concepts, from Rome to current countries, but when talking about Spain it's just as I mentioned before. There are 50 provinces (*) and they are grouped in Autonomous Communities. Some are a Community on their own and then there are places like Andalucía that has eight or Castilla y León has nine.
Think of it as the U.S (Spain) has States (Autonomous Communities) which consists of a number of counties (provinces).
And about the language, I'm surprised she called it a dialect. Galician is said to be older than Spanish. Galician was part of the "lingua Galaico-portuguesa" (Galician-Portuguese language, yes) that was spoken in the North-West region of the Iberian peninsula.
When time came in the Middle Ages to Portugal to go its own way, while Galicia was still a part of Castille, that language evolved in different ways, that's why now we have Portuguese and Galician, which seems to be half way from Portuguese to Spanish but it's a language of its own.

(*) And Ceuta and Melilla, the two Spanish cities in Africa, which are considered "Autonomous Cities", which I wouldn't be able to explain exactly what that implies without looking it up, but it's half way there between city, province and community.

I am trying to postulate a theory on the Druids. I know they had contact with the Iberians but I am still puzzled about the Druids origin.
I knew Spains and Greeks have same origin, because spanish and greek are similar in pronunciation, and antropologicaly they are most similar out of all mediraneans
Following the same logic, all Europeans have the same origin since Celts populated the whole continent. But that is not how It works, because during all history, Europe have got multiple invasions even from other continents...

That's actually a good point. This video's premise is pretty stupid because the earliest languages of Spain are Tartessian, Iberian, and Celtic. The Celts go as far back in Spain as the Iberians so they aren't immigrants in the same sense Greeks and Romans were. What a stupid title, honestly.
Probably it was old basque, like in a lot part of europe, for example old sardinian was closely related to basque, armenian and georgian are probably related too.

Galicia comes from Cale, the ancient Celt name of Porto, Portugal. Ancient Galicia was the area that goes from the river Douro,Porto all the way to the northwestern coast of the Iberian peninsula. The Greeks use to call the tribe, the Kallakois, people from Cale/Kale. Cale developed to Galeacia with the romans and to Galicia in the Middle Ages. The settlement of Cale (the nowadays city of Porto) was renamed by the romans as Portus Cale which means “port port” in two different languages, in latin and celt. The word developed to portucale over the Dark and Middle Ages and eventually to nowadays Portugal (the other Celt-Iberian country). Also, porto is the actual Portuguese word for port/harbour. Embarrassing the way they don’t get their facts right, misleading the viewers! Funny as some of the images are in Portugal. Iberia pls and not Sp.........!! ;)

She might well be referrign to the Latin plural of 'castrum', which is indeed 'castra'

Herodotus more importantly preserved the ancient memory of the moment when the Atlantlic flooded the Med Basin nmillennia beforehand. A true cataclysm. That is no myth and does not belong to legend.
The Celts of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany, France, are basically Iberian. The Irish in particular, have numerous DNA marker that are more related to people from northern Spain and Portugal, than people from the rest of the UK. The Irish are basically Hispanic.
First of all, that division people keep wanting to create between North of Portugal and the rest of the country, simply does not exist. Portugal is an homogeneous country, the differences between the various regions of the country are small.
Then, "hispanic" is a completely wrong word to use here, given the usual meaning attributed to it.
I only asked how expensive it is to travel there...
Actually, if I am not mistaken, Lisbon was also founded by the Phoenicians, and for that, Lisbon is the second most ancient capital of Europe, after Athens.

Even if Lisbon was founded by the phoenicians, it was founded after Cadiz. So Cadiz would be much older than Lisbon, so is imposible that Lisbon is the second oldest city in Europe by a big margin. Cadiz is even older than Athens, which means that is the oldest city in Europe that has been continously populated.

I think that the Sumerians were probably Dravidian who are related to the people of Sri Lanka.

That is my whole point... Spanish investigation on their own history is not dedicated and poorly executed. The government does not dedicate neither money nor time to excavate or learn about their past. Little is known about these early tribes so influential for the future northern colonies. It is a shame our history remains in the shadows and completely underestimated.

I am an Iberian of the original stock. I am not Celtic as those invaded from the north when my people were already there. This is a very interesting video but the title is very poorly chosen. "The History of Spain". The narrator keeps saying "Spain" as a synonym to Iberian Peninsula.. And then keeps mentioning that the Celts traveled by sea from "Spain" to The British Isles. Then why not say they traveled from Spain to England? Why say British Isles or even mention "Ireland", "Scotland" or "Wales"?
Well, if the Celts traveled through the Atlantic, they probably came from what is now Portugal, which holds most of the Atlantic coast of the Peninsula. Yet she says "Spain". I'm sure some people must be thinking "what's the bi difference?" - well imagine we're talking about the Celts arriving by boat in Ireland and say they arrived in "England"... How wrong would that information be?
In those times there were no Spain, Portugal, Scotland or England. So we either say Iberian Peninsula and British Isles, or we say "What is now Spain, Portugal, Scotland or England" - but don't call Spain to the whole peninsula just as you don't call England to the whole of the British Isles.
In fact this sometimes seems intentional because, how can the Greek presence in the Peninsula be mentioned without talking about Lisbon. The city was named after Ulysses, as its original name was Olyssipo, as the legend says it was founded by Ulysses. It just keeps being ducked and sidestepped, as it would be too complicated for people to compute the complex idea that there two countries in the Peninsula, and not one.

This is true. There was no such place called Spain in the time period that is is referring to. That, and Portugal both came MUCH later.
Also the Iberian that were there were not one people but various tribes, whose people were not all decended from the same origin. Just as the people from what is now France and other areas.
A more modern example are the English. Modern English Brit, are many s mix of the true Brits, and Normans, Gauls, Anglo-Saxons, and others.

You're like someone saying that blond northern Italian Germanics are just as native to Italy as Sardinian whites who can get dark by tanning as befits natives of the Mediterranean.
