Awww Robin! You have arrived! Remember this moment when a massive company such as Adobe invited FIVE artists to a conference- and you were one of them. Savor it!
Your experimental phase was what showed me that not being good at realism isn't the end of the world and I adore all the work you made during that phase. Your experimental phase is exactly what I am striving to be able to create, it's my inspiration.
This was so inspiring! I totally agree, once you start getting outside your comfort zone more often, it can get addictive because you always want to push yourself and see what new exciting things you can learn from that!
You are a good artist and a good story teller. Loved the way you remixed old footage with the conference and the painting all brought together with an inspiring narration. Very cool-enjoyed it a lot. 👍🏼😊
The best art advice you can find is within yourself. You will find people to get advice from in life, but always question them. Chances are they will be overrated. Look for similarities in teaching. Also look at their work. Are they still working? When you get together, are they talking more then they are doing any kind of work? Pay attention to when they give you critics. If they are talking about the inside of your painting, and how the work is developed chances are they work. If they are only talking about the top of the painting, (what they see) chances are they don’t work, because they are so use to critiquing, and only dealing with the final product. They probably will have nothing to contribute to the process and the inside of your painting..........
The “if you want something you’ve never had before, you’re going to have to do something you’ve never done before,” and, “stepping out of your comfort zone induces growth,” messages really hit home for me. I definitely have a hard time stepping out of my comfort zone, but this is really inspiring. I’m gonna try to do something new. Thank you for sharing, Robin. c:
Robin you can not imagine who much i admire you, your work, the way you think or present your thoughts id say, the way you do your work, you really inspire me to be better to push myself out of my comfort zone. Thank you so much, wishing you the best
You're probably my favorite artist on this website, not just because of your technical skill but because of your constant drive to grow, evolve and find what you want to express. It's incredibly inspiring.
I wish I could click a heart instead of just a thumbs up. I'm excited for where you are going personally and professional, and also excited to see what I will learn from you.
I am an actor and writer. I initially wanted to learn how to paint and still do gradually, but it has grown into something more. I love all your ideas and your courage. I am totally crushing. Everytime, I watch one of your videos I learn something amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm an artist in the first year that I am really trying to take it seriously and begin my career. Your videos are so inspiring and insightful. I appreciate how you are very genuine in the way you talk about art and your process. I feel like there are a lot of artists who try and front and hide their secrets to stay above their audience. It doesn't seem like you do that and I appreciate you for that
I AM SO ECSTATIC FOR YOU!!!! Man, this video gave me all the feels. I really, genuinely appreciated all the insights you shared. This advice resonates so much with me. I've watched it several times now, and I think I need to watch it many more times to soak up all the goodness. I can relate a lot with Spring 2016-Spring 2018 you. Spring 2016 as I'm getting used to talking in front of a camera... and all throughout your journey with belief & identity shifts and how all that existential-ness affects art. This was all so real. It's been a wild ride! Seeing this honest and in depth video analysis of your journey is so so so beyond inspiring!! Thank you for this video. It was the perfect push I needed to keep moving forward. And ahh, thanks for featuring that little bit from the rad video where we met! Also, I know I've already said it, but I'm OBSESSED with your Adobe painting. You crushed it!! Here's to new beginnings, and all the awesome things to come! Wishing you all the best, Robin! ♥♥ We all couldn't be happier for you!
Robin, thank you so much for sharing your experiences. You are such an inspiration to me, and I just admire you art so much. Seeing you overcome your artistic struggles gives me so much hope to continue making art. Thank you.
Ahhh I started watching your channel two days ago and have become addicted to it - literally I paused watching THE GOODWIFE (again...) to go through your videos! And there we go I watched this one, and now I feel it’s such a special moment to subscribe when you’re starting out a new journey!!!
Wow Robin and bravo to you for exploring and trying something new! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet new people and take in most of their experiences and advise. You surely have evolved and can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves. Congratulations to a new chapter in your life! 👏👏👏😁😁😁
You’ve inspired me since I began my painting journey and I’m so very excited to see where your own journey takes you! I always look forward to your videos and you never disappoint. Thank you so much for everything you do!
Im preparing my portfolio for college applications later this year, and this video helped a ton. I’ve been in a rut myself, basically painting the same thing in different ways, frustrated that I can’t “do” anything else. I’ve been watching you for about a year now, and i love your channel. It’s beautiful and funny, a perfect mirror of yourself. You’ve inspired me so much, and I hope along your journey you know that. Much love.
I just found your channel.. and pretty sure you belonged every bit as anyone else in that conference. I am in awe of you! Both your art and you as a human. It takes so much courage to challenge your beliefs. I had an extreme belief change from what could be considered a fundamental religion (although members of the religion would say it isn't fundamental) 5 years ago. It has impacted my life in the most profound ways and actually led me to art and I hope I will continue to be opened in ways that expand my creativity. Thank you for sharing your gifts. I enjoy learning from you. My kids also enjoy your humor! Keep creating.
i remember when i first joined here, about a year ago.. i loved your videos so much! you became my idol and you inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and start a youtube channel. i only have around 50 subscribers right now but i feel like i can grow my channel and inspire others. you continue to motivate in me every video. i cant wait for the journey ahead! love you robin
As a much older person seeking to take my art to a professional level after years in other careers, I want to say your videos are really inspiring. I like the open to the public soul searching and reflections on art and art career. You've got a lot going on, glad you are sharing your journey. It's really cool to see you're exploring breaking out of your comfort zone with the art you make too. All my heroes in art are ones who learned their stuff with "realistic" representational art and then deviated a lot into much odder stuff. Will be fun to watch where you go :)
Robin, thank you so much for this. I just graduated with an Art Education degree, but I feel like I'm at a loss because all I want to do is make art, but it's so scary to choose that path. I have been able to relate to so many of your struggles as an artist like not being sure what art style is now and hitting the artist "rut." I appreciate you actually talking about them because it makes me feel like I'm not the only one! Im excited to see what you have in store for everyone.
I love your channel because it’s instructive but fun and entertaining. You aren’t afraid to try new things and I loved loved the waves and everything you do. Keep going we love you
You're very inspirational, I love your channel. I decided to go from amateur with somewhat decent skills to professional artist not so long ago, and now struggle terribly with finding my style (getting out of one's comfort zone is a good idea, but it can be rather overwhelming!). Not to mention that six month ago, I wouldn't even describe myself as a hobby artist because I was afraid that would be enough pressure already to kill my creativity (which is bullshit, as it turns out). So, hearing about your own path and struggles (and success!) is particularly inspiring and motivating! And your videos are fun to watch, too.
!!!!!!! love the painting and I love the message. I just started graduate school (not in art) and this is super inspiring for every field of my life right now. Thank you
Absolutely adore the way you recorded this video, mixing in old footage that worked so well! And congrats on that conference! The only other advice I'd add to the list and that I sometimes need to remind myself is the "just do". As in, do all the ideas you have, especially those you think are bad, it is through bad ideas that you come to good ones. Always efficient in a rut as well.
The best video you put out yet! Masterfully made and with a strong messege too! *If you want something you never had before, you're gonna have to do something you've never done before.* I'm going to save this video for when im going to be in a rut. Thanks Robin!
Hi Robin! I just wanted to say that you help me a lot with these videos! You’re so talented and I love your art your stories about your art journey and tips! They have helped me a lot and try very hard to make art as much as possible. I love your humor your quality videos and *HOODIE* 😂 Anyways thanks a lot for making me laugh and help me find my art style! Love you a lot❤️
I've loved your videos for a while and you've always inspired me to create new work. I just bought my first set of oil paints thanks to your work. I *really* needed this video right now. I just graduated college and am in the "what do i do now" phase. Thanks for the push :)
Your videos are always inspiring. I discovered you earlier this year and I always take away a little something that inspires and encourages me. Thank you!
I am newer to your channel but I have watched so many of them (some I will admit, while I should have been painting... but also some while painting!) Anyway, you're right, this was really excellent and congratulations on such a successful convention! Thank you for summing up that excellent advice, and I'm so glad you're feeling so positive. You are one of my new favorite inspirations. :)
I just watched this and definitely needed this. I am in the process of painting 20 themed paintings for an art show with friends and teachers (Something that is wayy off my comfort zone) I'm usually in the lowkey, I make art and I only sometimes get my art out there so this will be my first time getting my art actually out there in a public event. This is definitely something I needed rn
Thanks for everything you've been such a great inspiration and thank you for everytime I'm feeling down and I watch one of your videos I then feel with a purpose and energetic and overall really joyful
Being a freelance Artist is just scary and always has been! I am a little jealous of you kids who have so many outlets today that just did not exist when I started as a freelancer (1982) I find your talent with the Violin amazing too! Just keep going and never give up! The ONLY advice anyone ever really needs!
Really inspiring video Robin! I always find that your videos always give me some sort of advice to further improve my art. I remember one of your videos giving advice on just spending an extra few minutes defining certain areas or building up more tone within a piece, and with the portraits I do and the style I use with squiggly lines, it has helped SO much. Just those extra few minutes have made a huge difference to how my art turns out. I actually want to start doing youtube videos for my art.I've always kind of wanted to create videos of my art and time lapses, and I also want to do voice acting in the future, so I wanted to do impression videos too. I've been inspired by you to create videos of my art, which I may begin this month after exams (if I can find a decent camera 😂) I just love your videos and I can't wait for more
This was a really nice video to watch because I'm about to graduate high school and I want to pursue art but I have no idea in what way or how I'm gonna do it, so I've been feeling very worried, confused, and lost lately... but watching this was super inspiring and helpful.
