About Dead End Hip Hop:
No scripts. It's pure unfiltered hip hop conversations and album reviews. No politics. No BS. We Are The People.
Tyler said it himself, "don't expect a rap album."
Exactly and it wasn't surprising coming off of the Grinch EP
but why the Grammy gave him the "best hip-hop album" award tho?
@@nobodyasks-js5tq Watch his Grammy backstage interview. He shed light on music industry's dirty laundry with a fitting analogy.
@@nobodyasks-js5tq Have you listened to the record? ahaha
the evolution of tyler is crazy
He always had it in him
Mayham beats i agree and the I’m glad he embraced it. When i was younger, I thought he still be stuck in the Bastard and Goblin sound. Glad he stepped it up
One of my greatest inspirations... imma ride for tyler forever bruh
My boi dat. We would get along. Always watching the same shit😂
@@TravisHouze As soon as he put out Wolf, I knew Tyler was going to take off musically.
Rod always expanding the camera just enough to see myke face expressions whenever someone is talking lol
Albert Williams very necessary
When I first heard Igor, I figured Myke would say in the review "first three listens were meh but at the fourth it clicked in". But damn didn't think he wouldnt like it.
Nikeythm He definitely went into it expecting something
I did the same thing and i still hate this album
I've given it a bunch of different tries, but man I got bored real fast every single listen
@Uncluded look at how much it took for that to happen. Why do people force themselves to like music?
Suit Up I get whet you mean. It took me 3 listens before it clicked and I loved it. Not sure why some music does that but sometimes I gotta listen to something multiple times before I understand it. Some stuff never gets better tho... like the recent Logic projects.
This is a bit like The Love Below where people were initially disappointed that André wasn’t rapping, but once they accepted it they loved it. Not comparing Tyler to Andre, just the situation.
And Awaken My Love by Childish Gambino
I love love below on the first came out I loved it but people they didn't like it it takes time and then they will click in their head I would love to see childish Gambino collab with Tyler that will be fire
I brought up TLB in regards to this album. It’s his TLB, 808s and [insert NERD album]
This is nothing like The Love Below. 3000 is actually wining and the production works. This isn’t a a fair comparison at all.
@@Precisechi André 3000 is my favorite rapper of all time... that being said, IGOR is better than The Love Below and I LOOOOOVE The Love Below but this was somethin' else!
tyler: don’t expect a rap album
dehh: he didn’t rap enough
smh
I saw that but like the night IGOR was released. He should of posted that a while ago to undercut the disappointment of no rapping on the album.
2 out of 5 people saying something doesn't equate to "DEHH said ____."
But he’s a rapper. So of course they would expect him to rap.
So if you listened to a shit album and then you checked twitter and they said "this isn't going to be a good album" you aren't allowed to say it was a bad album? I liked the singing but damn
The album was awful
This is 100% my album of the year so far, Tyler’s production was on another level!
Best produced album I've heard in years!
@Victr Silva apart from trap and boom bap shit, I be listening to 60s and 70s Motown albums most of the time, I grew up listening to all that even though I'm only 22 lol, and this album reminds me of all the music from that time from all the sounds he used
Yes. BUT many albums are coming out and if it's anything like last year it won't last because DiCaprio 2, Daytona, would be def better but it'd be on the level of taboo, ksg and astroworld
This album is overhyped. And 2019 been a relatively weak year for “hip hop”
Aoty so far for me too :)
One of the first times I disagreed with Myke
This and tpab
@@youngsinatra6029 but tpab was his number 1 album of 2015 tho?
Zojc nah it was top five, the review he wasn't super in love with it
@@ves138 it was #3
Yeah this is a rare moment for me to disagree with Myke
Even before Wolf, Tyler was already talking about stop rapping. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point he releases an album without his vocals at all.
SatanSupimpa nah you tripping
@@lukesegovia6310 he said at the apple live concert "i just wanna write pop songs to be honest" so it might happen sometime
Just change the whole lineup up but keep the vibe like steely dan
Luke Segovia I wouldn’t be surprised, he hates his voice and has manipulated it in almost every song in his discography.
welp
He literally says “this is not a rap album”....
Even from the snippets and album cover. It was obvious Tyler wasn't going for rap.
i like the young guys they just add more perspective imo.
luke shen I feel like the orginal cast has outgrown today’s magic soo much that the young cats are going to get some shine for being knowledgeable and relatable to the music
yall came to hard for feefo. i think a lot of people agree this is his best
Nah, Bastard is his best project
@@oneeyedlair HELLLLSSSS NAH
Nassir J nah
Oh you're right, but I think they were more coming for feefo for saying this was the best mix of all of Tyler's talents, Because there was less rapping as compared to singing on this album.

They went in 😭 The “favorite tracks” segment had me hollering hahah
Myke you crazy for picking that up..killing it
Picking what up? Lol I watched the video
@@tgillespie40 I assume hes talking about why the album was called Igor. Right at the beginning.

In 'are we still friends' r u saying he wasn't singing his heart out? 😂
I been listening to this album NONSTOP since it came out. I’ve listened to hundreds of albums over the past 20 years, and its crazy how quickly this album is becoming one of my favorite albums of all time
It gets better with each listen aoty by far
Agreed
It’s a great album now doubt. I got attached to Flowerboy so I’ll always prefer it, but I still think Igor is his “best” album as far as concept and songwriting.
The same for me.
u are smoking crack.
lmao dude if you love Tyler, N.E.R.D. and Kanye, and liked Solange's new album there's a high chance you would love this off the bat
Real talk...
I’ve loved Kanye since I was 10 but this album isn’t good to me

Igor sounds like some Pharrell shit from the 2000s. Really enjoyed it.

@@mitchfinn6690 that is definitely not true
I’M RIDING WITH FEEFO AND THE INTERNS
IGOR aside, I just wanna say this is one of your best reviews to date;
Rod's skills at mediating the conversation, plus his camera work really brings out the diversity of thought that makes Dead End what it is. Yall each say your piece, move the conversation forward, and infuse enough of your personality and humour in to come off down to earth/relatable and amiable to disagreement. I wish you could review every project that drops, just to get the chance to see yall do what you do so well as often as possible.
But Feefo and Rod were right, IGOR is a perfect vibe.
The vocals hit me differently than they did Myke, I think. Given how emotionless or silly or out-of-touch-with-his-emotions tyler usually is, to even hear him getting in his feelings resonates hard, regardless of how eccentric his singing is. Kind of like that girl who always cries telling you about a breakup, vs the funny kid who's always making jokes muttering something about how he feels deep down. Sorry for the sexist example, but which one resonates more? I'd say the funny friend, even if it is a bit awkward and half serious and monotone.
I COMPLETELY get where he is coming from though, and I think it really comes down to personal preference. If it doesn't sound good to you it doesn't sound good. Loved the review. Worth the wait.
I love this example
I love your example. I get this one hundred percent.
Tyler is really embracing his sexuality here. Where on Flower Boy it was still a bit ambiguous. That’s what I really appreciate about this album
I feel where Flower Boy explored sexuality and loneliness, Igor explored love and loss more
I still murky though. Because although the story of IGOR tackle those gay themes, for me I got into the story of this IGOR character, for me the songs don’t tell the story of Tyler per say but of Igor. It’s what i got out of it, and I enjoyed it even more from that POV
I have not anticipated a review from you guys as much as I have anticipated this one. I love this album from start to finish.
Just Drayson it’s better to listen all the way thru for sure imo
Gnar Gnar Binks Agreed. I never skip a track when I play it.
Get Fantano for a review in person, that would be dope!
It clicked for me on my 2nd listen and its been in heavy rotation ever since. As of now its my AOTY and its flawless from beginning to end imo.
Justin Sanchez it took me a few listens but I’m really glad it clicked with me
This sort of review is why I love DEHH so much, all the differing opinions and takes on a single album.
Goblin review is how I found y’all! Much love from L.A. thank you for this
Feefo is spitting FACTS I'm surprised he was the one to say it is his best album. This isn't just a hip hop album, there's such a amazing mixture of genres that floored me the more I listened. At first I was confused but by the end I had to genuinely give it to him. He was right about Rodeo and he is right about this.
Hit me Myke C-Town, can't wait to hear his breakdown. This is gonna be a very very polarizing review.
This is DEHH’s version of melons MBDTF review
Nah

I agree. This album was amazing, it just wasn’t for them.

TimJ are you on crack?!
Narrative is focus on IGOR
Flower Boy is a lot more confessional
I think flower boy is also narrative driven
You guys came such a long way, man. Special shoutout to Rod, the camera work and the edit definitely got better, we can all agree on that.
Shoutout to the team, your work comes to every corner here in Europe. I’m from Portugal. I’ve been here since 2015 and kept putting you guys on to all my people, salute!
If people are reading this, could be cool if yall replied with your country! Would be cool if they saw it.
Portugal 🇵🇹
Been waiting for this review for so long lol kept checking the channel if they posted
The mixing definitely from a place of concious experimentation rather than lack of skill, since Tyler already proved his skills via Flower Boy.
Really appreciate when you bring the young guys in for the reviews, their input really gives a fresh perspective
Quality over Quantity. Appreciate yall 💯
Yeah they really been takin their time these days but i fucks wit it
"I don't think it's experimental, I don't even think it sounds like Tyler"
.... does Myke even hear the words coming out of his own mouth?
Harder, better, faster, CLOSER
lmao i was looking for someone to notice that
Glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed this hahaha
Right he meant Stronger 🤣
At first, I was horribly indifferent.
17 listens later, damn. This album was so relevant to me. I agree that this is his 808s, and I feel over time this album will grow to be seen as one of his best.
edit: by this I mean I began to like it more and more and by the 3rd listen I was hooked, kept listening to the album, apologies for any confusion.
17???? You're forcing yourself to like it at that point.

Nope, Bastard is number one
This is one of those albums that is gonna go down in history as one of the best.
This shit is pure excellence.
Damn man living in the moment much? Lol
I think that will be Flower Boy
What is this, I wouldn’t even put flower boy in that category. Really really good album but not an all time classic
@@jesuspascual9080 Really? I completely disagree. If anything in Tyler's discography is worthy of the "classic" title it's definitely Flower Boy. It's what started Tyler's true evolution as an artist, and at the time was his most polarizing, and personal album; no one was expecting it, especially after the disaster that was Cherry Bomb lmfao. It's his most critically acclaimed album, and most fans still consider it his best work.
Idk man. I think It'll be a very influential album 10-15 years from now
Pure 🗑.
First time watching these guys and love the commentary! But is that a Father Befouled shirt lol that’s a reference I did not expect

100% with Myke on this one. Agree with pretty much everything he said. Wish I loved this, it has really good production, the vocals ain't it, and I have no idea why people are calling this experimental.
Great reviews dead end always nice to get some good takes on why some don’t like it. I personally love this album.
Gimme the intro, Earfquake and a boy is a gun
First time I'm fully on board with Feefo and no one else :P But really enjoyed this review

Oooh, this bout to be a good review I know it. I don't know if this is his best, I need some more time to sit with it.
Also, slightly off topic, but are y'all planning on reviewing Injury Reserve?
Yo Myke! What's that shirt? I generally love your taste in black metal but this image I don't recognize.
love this album btw
It was nice sleeping off to this review. Good morning guys
Tyler: raps on 8 out of 12 tracks on IGOR
Everybody: very disappointed there’s not a lot of rapping on IGOR.
I love the album, but even the tracks he raps on, there is a limited amount of rapping
It's a small ass amount of rapping even tyler tweeted about the small amount of rapping there is on the album. I didn't like the album at first but when I came to terms with how this isn't really a rap album at all I started enjoying it a lot more, but its like a 7-8 to me idk.
Not really hardly any rap this is some pop singing trash
right...I felt like he rapped a good amount but in a style people arent used to from him. I think people are mad he's not doing some heavy hit bangers like who dat boy
Diallo Weeks nope
Myke's opinions are similar to mine. Listened to Igor about a dozen times and the only thing I really liked was the production.
Look, I feel like Tyler has creatively improved more and more with each project he has released.
Flower Boy was a peak, it was the best comeback Tyler ever had, it was Tyler honing in and mastering his craft. IGOR is new, it's a different approach to what Tyler always wanted to do, I wasn't big on immediately either, it grew me after a while and now I fucking love it. It's definitely raw and unrefined almost giving off an amateur vibe with the vocals especially, which is what he intended, it conveys the fragile and broken nature of the character he's portraying, and it flows amazingly well. If anything in two years time Tyler will come with something better than IGOR again, at this point I genuinely only expect great things from him, no matter what.
Feefo, I’m so happy you’re doing well man 💕
Good review once again guys! All y'all brought up some good discussion. I was hoping to hear more songs like PEACH FUZZ from Tyler but it's not what I expected with this. I know I'll appreciate it more in time. This project just wasn't for me for the most part.
How tf is this a funk album, myke😭
I think this was Tyler's best album. The production was wild, the features were amazing, and Tyler's lyrics were great. At first I was disappointed in the album, but the song that made me get off the fence was GONE GONE/THANK YOU. I think that song was incredible and something in that song clicked something in me to appreciate the album. It was my bad because partially I was expecting a Flower Boy 2.0 or a straight up rap album, but when I let go of that convention and looked at it as its own unique sort of album it made sense to me. I've listened to the album cover to cover every day since it came out and I've been loving it more and more.
Igor > Flower Boy
But they're both great albums.
I have to be in the minority cause I love flower boy more. And to me it’s leans more hip-hop side than IGOR and that’s not a knock at IGOR
Flower boy was better
Igor is better
i disagree flowboy is better overrall but igor is good.
Flower boy is better
I did want Tyler to rap more on this one, but I wasn’t dissatisfied with what I got. He did a lot of interesting things on IGOR that i loved. He did say in interviews before its release that he wasn’t going to make a quote on quote “rap album”. So this goes really well with what Feefo said. This could be considered Tyler’s 808’s in a way, if that makes sense.
It's been a while since I disagreed with most of you guys. Great review either way.
Its the first time I listened to this artist so i dont know of his previous album but i really enjoyed the whole album all the songs compliment each other. I liked all the transistions the brakes, sound, vocals I was getting my grove on from the first listen so thats says alot.
Igor is amazing I really enjoy it. You can play this at the family reunion. But I do think that this project was mainly about the production. Also I feel like this was more of a compilation album were he did the production and his features provided the vocals on most of the songs.
Damn, didn’t think y’all would review this one. Pleasantly surprised
I already know Myke hated this
I know exactly what Myke is talking about. Tyler's creativity was on 100 with this album, but the way he delivered his vocals was tamed for most of the album. Best example I can think of is New Magic Wand...when you listen to how visceral his voice was when he performed it at the Grammies, it brought new life and energy into the track..but on the album, the vocals are lackluster in comparison.
Damn yo. I thought myke would like this but I actually agree with him. I really wanted to like this album but overall it just doesn’t click with me. I definitely appreciate Tyler’s growth tho.
This is my 2nd favorite album of the year so far. My first listen I was hesitant about it bc it’s so different from his other material, but my 2nd listen I went in fully knowing what to expect. I must say, he did extremely well at crafting songs that are outside of his rapping comfort zone and created an amazing neo-soul album. Tyler doesn’t need to rap for this album to be great, this Tyler at his best in songwriting. Every instrumental is meticulously crafted, the lyrical theme is pulled off very well, and the album flows fantastically. No filler here, the album is a complete experience. This is a 9/10 (maybe 9.5) for me.
I feel the exact same way.
5:08 Mike’s face 😂😂😂
I must be a liar, Feefo, because I truly did love this right off the bat. The opening vibe of "Igor's Theme" really put me on-track to really rock with it. Plus, I was one of those people who didn't hate the mixing issues on Cherry Bomb so I think that really helped as well. It wasn't as out of whack as CB & it came off a lot like the mixing in an Ariel Pink or a Mac DeMarco record to me where it's not too difficult to hear the vocals but they don't overtake the production. Tbr, his vocals really just came off as another layer in the production to me. Really digging this project. It's been a couple of weeks so far & I genuinely think after the dust settles, this might be my favorite Tyler record.
Flower Boy might have pushed art in general creatively, but IGOR did push Tyler's song-writing and production more, even if it wasn't anything original in general. Making IGOR is going to allow Tyler to make better music in the future.
Personally I love this album from first listen conceptually and sonically and that’s from someone who never put on a Tyler album before and I feel like the real story and content and concept is in the production side of this album and the vocals just added more narration and context to the instrumentals
i love this album from start to finish. Tyler did a great job with this project.
the beginning wasn't in black & white : - (
Tyler came a long way since 'Goblin' huh!
Goblin better than this by a mile
Chad Howland stfu 💀💀
Awesome review, DEHH+TND=Best music reviewing.
I'm with myke, I just don't find it, I'm cool with it but I don't come back for this project
Adler _ myke is bang on, such a boring R & B album, back to underground hip hop, bring on that Freddie Gibbs and Madlib
@@matthalsey1346 how is this album boring? I like underground hiphop but if anything could be considered boring. its that. All underground type hiphop is verse, chorus, verse chorus, over a 4/4 beat pattern with nothing crazy going on production wise...that style has been done for 30 years..theres nothing really groundbreaking about it at this point
Feefo predicted Tyler’s Grammy win
I like Feefo’s explanation and I agree with damn near everything Modest said. First listen I was not impressed but for some reason I kept hearing Earfquake and New Magic Wand in my head then I fell in love with the album. FlowerBoy and Cherry Bomb still are still above IGOR for me rn but there’s three tracks on IGOR that might make my top 3 songs by Tyler
Yea this is like his... Awaken my love/808s n heartbreak/ under the cherrymoon Wen i heard earthquake i instantly said okay i know wat hes doin. N garden shed and bordem on flowerboy he was singing on point. So in this album he on purposely sang like that. He tried to pull a prince/ andre 3000 thing. But it kind of didnt workout. But n the end i fuck with the album. Cause i get wat Hes doing.
Dang they sell the same shirts at target in Atlanta as in Sacramento
I was very surprised to like 2 albums from Tyler in a row. Loved it on the first listen and kept listening to it to make sure it wasn't just in moment thing. I think it's his best work. Didn't even mind that there wasn't really any rapping. I really thought that Myke would like it but each to his own. I guess I can say I'm looking forward to his next project.
I definitely don’t think this reaches Flower Boy but I love the growth and how adventurous Tyler is with his production. I do wish Tyler would get a pop star or two to consistently collab with so we can hear his sound with more refined and polished vocals not that I don’t love his voice but man imagine a Kali Uchis x Tyler the Creator collab album it’d be unreal
You guys have been for like last several years my friends that I just chill with but never say anything to them, just listening and laughing
Does Feefo work for Google or somethin’?
lol! nah he doesn't
Farah A. I just see that Pixel merch from time to time. He must really like that phone, then!
I think he works for Verizon wireless. I got the same promo shirt when the new pixel came out .
Totally with Myke on the vocals. Since Flower Boy dropped I've wanted Tyler to make an IGOR type album, but w/ other singers (Rex Orange County, Kali Uchis, etc.)
This is my favourite Tyler album. The production is off the charts and heavenly.
he stated during his apple music performance (the one where he performed all of igor live) that several of his vocals were ref recordings that he sent to other artists looking for features, but none of them responded positively. I think I remember him mentioning bieber and rihanna.
BTW If anything sounded weird, I am sorry, I am not English.
