I remember one game where Alex Ich played Galio and had something around 500 cs around the 40-45 minute mark. It was mind blowing to the degree where the casters agreed that him clearing waves so effectively was a detriment to other players farm. It was odd for me at the time to watch, but I guess that is what made M5.
I will never forget the Katawice games vs the azubu teams nail biting on every match, every match the same picks, renekton,, xinzhao, ezreal, i was so impressed by dariens renekton, by everyone, and their teamplay was just amazing
Moscow 5 were a truly magical team. Their synergy was like watching a beautiful piece of art-in-motion, with each part working as One - exquisite, perfect. Only ever possible with those original 5 - Darien, Diamondprox, Alex Ich, Genja and Gosu Pepper. Any subs/replacements break that magic, it just isn't there anymore. They will never be the same again. It was just wonderful while it lasted. I will never forget. Now I'm off to cry. M5 Forever
I started playing League around s2 as well when the russian overlords, then moscow five, were trashing everyone with picks like "double" jungle alistar and lee sin. The old line up and the state of league at that time was like magic. For the current line up to reach that level of supremacy is quite a long shot, but I have high hopes for and still enjoy watching Gambit Gaming. Great video once again, Thorin =)
Nathan Samuel Was pretty much the fact that TPA banned out Alex - Eve, Darien was too set on playing Yorick, and M5 didn't ban Nidalee becuase they had never seen a Nidalee been played that good before!
I remember Genja's Triforce Kog'Maw, and how so many people would call it trash, but then he ended up being an innovator for the season 4 Triforce Kog'Maw meta. Good days, I tell you, good days.
i rly like the way you go talk about things in "thorin's thoughts". your comparisons from real sports and other topcis to explain stuff are great. i like how you manage to transition things from esports into the "real world" and the other way around. you do the hard work of really thinking through the process of things and analizing them little by little in a way most ppl either cant or dont want to and you say it in an entertaning fashion. you are unique imo with that philosoph/scientist style atleast for lol (i dont know much about other esport). iam glad you are still reguarly releasing a lot of great stuff even after all the efforts to shut you down in the past. free agent workoholic even working in christmas holidays it seems.
That's exactly that, it was MAGIC. SKT, Samsung White, whatever dominant team you will give to me, Moscow 5 will be forever the most magical team i've ever seen in anay sort of esport competitive play. Magic
I think M5 got me into competitive LoL. The season 2 IEM world championship was my first intern. event I watched. My friend had linked me to a riot stream and said 'hey dude finals are starting' at the time I had no idea about what went on in pro lol so I just started watching. I remember asking my friend 'so whos going to win' and he says 'm5 dude, they win every tournament' so here I am thinking what are they doing thats so special? Then I saw that legendary diamondprox lee sin and gosu pepper alistar play against scarra's mordekaiser and instantly became a fan! Good old days, I really dislike the LCS format they have these days, I'm only really pumped when it comes to playoffs now.
Thooorin Im really glad you did this video. I hope my comment from few days before had some influence. Really good and personal insight, we appreciate it. I hope you will do one on Fnatic next and what is next for Xpeke's team.
Every time I watch one of your videos I hear more correct assumptions about how sport psychology works. I'm really excited how well you understand the interaction of mental skills and eSport purely through your experience. Most people I listen to (who have not studied sport psych) misunderstand everything completely. Keep rocking!
I think the main reason M5 was so good was because back in season 1 and start of season 2 there was literally 0 tactic's, games were basically slightly glorified soloq matches. This was not the case with M5 they had team strategy's, tactic's and team work, other team like CLG just played to get doublelift fed etc.
complete opposite. Gambit/M5 at the peak might arguably been the most organic and spontaneous team in the world. And the main reasons is the point of the video. It is a bit disgusting how you are commenting for the sake of commenting. No offence.
this is not true, watch when they went 2-0 against blaze and 2-0 against frost in katowice for example, M5 were ahead of their time and when other teams caught up they could sure as hell give them a run for their money or beat them.
no offense but i agree with kalphite1 to a certain degree that m5 was ahead in their team coordination. other teams clearly had ideas what they want to do in the game as well but m5 seemed to had the better understanding overall and could react faster in game to many situiations(ofc without preplanning all of them). it took other teams a long time to catch up. yes everyone says how sponneous m5/gambit was but they clearly had higher basic understanding of dragon control and baron control (and if you want you can even put the jungle invades here). i think there was a clear style of m5 and so i wouldnt say they were the team with nearly no tactic. they were simply also better in quick adapting to ingame situiations as well, both things made them so strong imo. one thing alone wouldnt have been enough to win all this games in this fashion, later in the lcs splitts you can make a case for winning games more with clutch stuff than with a preplanned masterplan. but i doubt as ppl above discribed that other teams had a better understanding and better tactics in early s2.
I started watching professional league at the beginning of season 3 and ever since I`ve always heard people talking about how great and fun to watch season 2 was I am kind of sad that I didnt witness M5`s dominant performances but i feel like season 5 will be the new season 2 with all the new changes, it has a good feel to it, I don`t know why
Thorin, was it true that Genja was M5's/Gambit's strategist? I read in leaguepedia a trivia about Genja that M5 got most of their strategy and team comps from him.
Well I don't really think they can be compared to Na'Vi because Na'Vi dominated everyone, not just EU and being close with chinese teams. They were the solo rulers of DotA. No one was on their level. But eventually they started losing their edge and teams caught up a bit but Na'VI were the strongest team for so long. TI3 was just so unfortunate.. Alliance played good but it was mostly Roshan throws that lost 2/3 of the games. The next time they battled eachother Na'Vi won 2/0 if I recall correctly. M5 were these great inovators who always brought a good fight but they weren't best in the world. Diamond when he was on his prime was amazing to watch. And the alistar + lee double jungle was another great inovation. I remember alistar flashing into headbutt + Q from wraiths and Lee following him and taking a kill on the mid laner a few times like that. They were just amazing to watch but as people got better in the game they became less of a factor and recently they've been non existent. Now with a new line up we'll see how they'll do in this LCS.
RestTarRr M5 was best in the world, they domintated korean teams as well and they only didn't win worlds because they were too arrogant to ban Nidalee.
I think the reason Moscow 5 and Gambit Gaming fell off was largely because of the league format. Gambit Gaming were so innovative, but if you have to play 4 games a week and have all your strategies published to all the other teams then you wont be able to rely on this innovation to catch out your opponents. I remember really disliking Fnatic Cyanide because all the champions he played in the spring split of season 3 (2013) were just copies of Diamondprox. E.g. volibear, nasus, aatrox. The same happened to Roccat when they entered the European scene, after their innovative picks were used up they were less successful.
4 minutes in, I think you can apply some of the logic that Gambit is the team that willfully thrives for the win even when they aren't "supposed to." They were just a "bottom crapper EU LCS team" who kept losing its famed players, and without anyone expecting them to they defeated the other teams at IEM that others expected to play well. Granted, the teams at IEM were playing generally terrible relative to good teams in LCS playoffs, but Gambit was the team that brought the will to win. The other teams failed to do this in the awkwardly put together and timed invitational tournament.
As much as I enjoy the amount and quality of content you've been putting out recently, you chose the only team that you can't possibly successfully break down, because you can't comprehend the reasons behind its success. Claiming that the top laner of the best team in the world during an entire season was just brainlessly being aggressive and letting his team carry him, or that he wasn't communicating with his team when distracting three members of the opposing team is so inconceivably wrong, that I can't help but wonder if you have any experience playing in a team environment at the highest level of any competition. The safest thing you can do in situations like these is to simply praise their teamfight prowess and decision making. Leave the decision making of each individual aside, because you don't have access to their in-game voice chat, nor is your game knowledge sufficient for you to understand why the players did what they did at that particular point in time. All your info is in game footage.
M5 were such a pleasant team to watch. Watching them was so entertaining. I wish we have more of that in this next split. I really liked Unicorns of Love. They remind me of the old m5 with their inovative playstyles and strategies. I hope they keep surprising us and other teams with their strats and picks.
gombot goming is the worse germany gaming team in word, they arent even full germany anymore, they hired a koran named pinboy, since theyre not full germany, why not hire a mechonically intense nord american like me? do i have to remind you that na is #1 server in word, too bad its filled with trolls who are keeping me prisoner in bronze elo hell, gg
At first, I saw a few of your comments and thought the satire was pretty good, but now that I see your comments on every. single. video... You're pulling yourself thin.

M5 forever ♡ but now is time to support new gambit

Good times
Thooorin Do you have an opinion on why M5 ended up getting knocked out by TPA? I reckon they'd have taken the final had they gotten through.
Nathan Samuel Was pretty much the fact that TPA banned out Alex - Eve, Darien was too set on playing Yorick, and M5 didn't ban Nidalee becuase they had never seen a Nidalee been played that good before!
Nicolai Berg without Nidalee TPA would never beat M5, or if it was Bo5 like nowadays...
Rafa Allegretti M5 didn't ban or fight vs Nida in IPL5 and still lost!
I remember Genja's Triforce Kog'Maw, and how so many people would call it trash, but then he ended up being an innovator for the season 4 Triforce Kog'Maw meta. Good days, I tell you, good days.

Отличное видео, Торин.

Thooorin Борода не делает тебя философом*
did you learn Russian somewhere? :)
BTTFRUS1 No, I just like to learn quotes.
these vids start as quickly as they end lol. great vid m8
awesome video Thorin. I really like em. Keep em coming. I kind of get a feeling of satisfaction everytime I watch your LoL/Esports related vids.
Great analysis and even greater memories!!
Thanks, Thoorin!
That's exactly that, it was MAGIC. SKT, Samsung White, whatever dominant team you will give to me, Moscow 5 will be forever the most magical team i've ever seen in anay sort of esport competitive play. Magic
I'll add that i disagree on one point. Darien was the best toplaner in teamfight, Shen monster
Your name is for Murray Rothbard ? Because if it's the case i'm a hardcore M5 fan aswell as an hardcore libertarian ( Like Rothbard's thinking a lot)
I still remember the magic when i was in LCS
now im stuck in Diamond 1 and cant make it to LCS thanks to my noob teammates ff
I think M5 got me into competitive LoL. The season 2 IEM world championship was my first intern. event I watched. I was always a CLG.EU fan but games against or with M5 were always something special
As a huge M5 fan since before the time they would stream 8 hour Go4LoL's, I can say you did a good job putting the legendary team into words.
Every time I watch one of your videos I hear more correct assumptions about how sport psychology works. Mind Games Weldon Holyshit it's you
hi
Good vid Thooorin. The nostalgia for old times is strong)
This made me go back and watch the IEM Kiev match again. Thank you for reminding me of those days.
In that series against KTB Genja took armor penetration Marks thats why he didn´t build Last Whisper
those were the good old days. i remember the gosu pepper alistar roam + diamond lee jungle game at IEM. so good (for their time)
I agree your opinion, about the single players! But I wish to see this Matchup (M5/Gambit) Matchup again!
Alex Ich's Ryze was the reason I picked up that champ. I still suck, but it's a nice memory...

I never liked playing leagues, I play runescape and melee but listening to this guy makes me want to watch one of their matches
Darien is my favourite player ever. Things always happened when we was on the Srift!
Never gonna forget Alex Ich mid carry with Evelynn with them FLANKS!
Great video Thorin!
Man I miss those days. And Darien.
Thorin, was it true that Genja was M5's/Gambit's strategist? I read in leaguepedia a trivia about Genja that M5 got most of their strategy and team comps from him.
+Dream Soda he was a master mind, a genius always faar ahead of all other marksmen in term of posituon/build/analyse/theorycrafting...
Sounds like what Na'Vi had in dota 2 at one point.
THEnewMyself M5/GMB would have been able to hold on for another year or so, most likely, had it not been for the switch to S3 and the LCS format.
dont speak of dot2,,, please...
THEnewMyself Your pretty delusional to think like this
Well I don't really think they can be compared to Na'Vi because Na'Vi dominated everyone, not just EU and being close with chinese teams. They were the solo rulers of DotA. No one was on their level. So, Thorin, when are you going to do a SI with diamond :)?
best natural synergy of all time
I like your videos and I find funny that to demonstrate what you are saying you always use your hands :D
I think the reason Moscow 5 and Gambit Gaming fell off was largely because of the league format.

Thorin if you keep working your ass off like this you're going to give yourself a heart attack. But enjoy what you are dishing out none the less.

The current Gambit did not dominate in the ridiculous fashion M5 did back in the day. They ridiculed their opponents.
***** Aye, they ridiculed opponents in an era of chaos. But as structure rises, the probability of familiar occurrences falters.
As much as I enjoy the amount and quality of content you've been putting out recently, you chose the only team that you can't possibly successfully break down, because you can't comprehend the reasons behind its success.
