  • thanks for watching!
the 1st thing i would setup is the suspension! it takes a couple of tries and adjustments until you find your sweet spot and im still fiddling around with it, but once you find it, it becomes a more enjoyable ride!
definitely worth the trial & error.

Preload does not make the suspension softer or stiffer, you cannot magically change the spring rate. It does adjusts where the shock/forks sit in their stroke though. You are quite right to add rear preload when taking your wife and adding extra rebound damping was also very correct. Adding maximum preload on the front "might" not of been the best thing you did. You probably benefited most by increasing the damping on the forks for that spirited ride. Fair play to Yamaha for adding adjustable damping on a mid range bike.

"Preload does not make the suspension softer or stiffer" this is correct in case of a linear spring (like the one installed in the Tracer and most of the bikes). For progressive ones it might slightly change the characteristics.

@@ItIsMyRide in a way that will make any noticeable difference, maybe a little as you say. But the result will not be that intuitive. Say we have a fixed weight rider, adding preload will give us more compression stroke and have us sitting less into our progressive part of the spring, creating what will be a longer travel for the same forces up on the back wheel. 👍

I have a '22 Tracer 7 and spent a day adjusting my settings, I weigh about 70 kilos and ride solo, it turned out to be I even had to lower the pre load on the front and rear, but needed to increase the damping in the front to 2 clicks from zero, and on the rear to 1/2 turn from zero to make the bike feel a bit more "planted" and stable for as far the suspension allows it, actually it's still sh*t lol. In conjunction with setting my tyre pressure to the same amount, the bike feels like he is soaking up the bumps evenly, still feels firm and flickable. The weird thing on '22 models is that, in comparison to your bike, I only have 1 adjuster on the right fork, so I don't get it how this effect the whole front suspension because they are not linked or something. PS I think your set your rear damping to "soft" again, 1 1/4 turn from zero is standard, 2,5 turns is soft according to the manual, so 2 turns from zero must be on the soft side. Could be different on older models though.

thanks for the comment. i will try to lower the pre load as you suggest and fiddle around with the damping. once i will find my sweet spot i will do another video hopefully.

Yamaha tracer 7 does not have traction control. Other motorcycles of similar CC have traction control.
What do you think about it?
    Thank you.

i think yamaha sacrificed a lot of things to make it more affordable than its competitors. but if you take the price in consideration its a good bang for the buck.

The wear of your rear tyre suggests incorrect rebound damping setting on your shock absorber.

im still trying to find my sweet spot. the tire wear was before i adjusted the rear shock. thanks for the comment and if you can throw some tips i will appreciate it

How heavy are you? I’m getting my Tracer 7 GT tomorrow and am worried about it being too wobbly. At 88kg, would you say running your shock/fork setup will help?

Same weight as me. I've an older 2016 Tracer 700. Done 3000 miles so far and not even thought about the suspension. Feels perfect. I do have to adjust it for a tour now though as my pillion is heavy.
