Cheng Kit, I’m on the same page as you. Haven’t watched the video yet, but when I started learning about fashion, so many influencers said white tees were essential. But after buying some, I realised they were super prone to pit stains, stains from food and most were “see through”. I prefer black, navy blue and grey tees :)
This short film you’ve made deserves an indie art award! What a pleasure it is for the opportunity to watch! Thank you! I live in Oklahoma, USA. We have red dirt here that requires fierce effort to remove from clothes! No extra chemicals needed to preserve the stain :D Thank you for sharing your process.
Loved the video and love to see you come back! If you still are open to dyeing your shirts, consider onion skins! Depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you could get an orange-ish hue, or military green! Best of luck and looking forward to a tattoo tour and how tattoos factor into your minimalism/frugal lifestyle. :)
We over dye our stained or faded clothes regularly, but we use black Rit dye powder. Often we soak them overnight in the dye. This means our oldest most favorite clothes are always the darkest black.
I use black & red dye for washing machine (Simplicol), if any piece of clothing, pillows or bedsheets gets annoying I can change colour in half an hour without work. Saved me a LOT of textiles 😉
Two things… you can usually go to a coffee shop and get their grounds for free.. so that will cut down the time waiting to collect used grounds.. and the second one is, that the color intensifies the longer you leave it in the “dye”… try overnight next time (if you do it again).
heyyyyyyyy CK glad you're back. i'd been practicing minimalism for 2 years. also done that. the "dyeing" to save my white tees resulting to just throwing it out (it turns out uglier than expected) just a disaster. just wash it through and through. maybe use a combination of bleach and detergent powder when it comes to washing white tee? you'll be surprised in the result. anyways looking for more vids to come! :)
So funny! You reminded me of my grandmother - she used to dye clothing and crotchet works with tea. Unused tea leaves, I suppose; the colour she got was much darker and very nice. In case someone wants to give it a try...
I don’t know if they do this over there, but if you were to go to Starbucks and asked for their coffee grounds, they probably would’ve given them to you. I’m also been thinking about dying my clothes black but i got dye from a from a friend. Also i loving the ink.
Nice to see you back on UA-cam. I dislike white Tee’s and think your idea to dye them was great. May I suggest if you want to dye them darker in the future to use tea rather than coffee as the dyes is stronger. Love the tattoos too.
Hi I hope you're doing well. Love your videos, helps me sort my thoughts on things when I'm confused and even found some gems in the videos. Thank you and hope to see an update from you soon❤
Would love to see a "day in the life" video from you one of these days! I imagine that nowadays you are working, doing your own thing - as someone who works from home everyday and loves videos like those to escape the more boring days in my professional life, this would be awesome to see!
Great video! I am completely with You. Be a coffee drinker, just like You, my favorite drink and a white t-shirt just won’t get along! That’s why I stick to black. PS: I love the tattoo sleeve You have.
I hate white tees but I own them. I just never ever wear them, I have a white shirt I bought like three years ago that I refuse to wear and at this point I'd almost rather donate it.
I asked my gf for a jumper but she bought me a white T the only thing I had white. I washed it with my other cloths and only wore the now greyish shirt when out with her.
The key is not to add salt, but Potassium alum - It can be added to a dye source to affect it; however, it does not serve as a source of color by itself. The fabric is impregnated with a mordant, then during the dyeing process the dye reacts with the mordant, creates a chemical bond and firmly attaches it to the fabric.
Cool video. I prefer off white myself - bright white looks a bit cheesy I think. It was an interesting experiment and the end result looks looks brilliant. I bought black tshirts in the next size up and tried boiling them to fade them and shrink them a little.
Hello my friend, have you ever consider drinking your coffee with a stainless steel straw? I'm a lot clumsy myself, and since I've begin drinking anything with those type of straw, I have managed to avoid any more stain in any of my garment, including the clearest ones. I've always two sort of straws in my bag, one for water and the other one for any colored drink. And as I'm clumsy, I tend to avoid drinking anything while I'm in movement, like walking, as I don't want my teeth to broke of my mouth to get all bloody. If in movement, the only thing I allow myself to drink, is water, but strawless, so if If get wet (and for sure, I will be), there's no consequences. Try it and you could always allow yourself to wear white t-shirts. 😅
I love white clothes for looks but good grief, they get dirty/discoloured so fast they are not sustainable. You should try onion peels - white onion peels for brown and red for dark red.
I only drink coffee on weekends. I recently discovered roasted barley tea and I loved it!!!! 😀😊by the way I love the white color😅😅 but it is true it takes a lot of work to take care of my clothes.
I actually see white clothes as a challenge. But I live in California. The humidity is lower in my part of the state. We also have a lot of solvents and things. Lol why do we use the exact same tools to make our coffee. I make skincare with my coffee grounds. :)

Such a enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing. I too tried to dye a scarf with coffee and had the same experience. I too won’t be doing it again😂
Glad you enjoyed the video! It can be quite a challenge! 😂 Thanks for sharing your story too!
Content suggestion: Best tee for tropical weather.

I go with grey, black fades

Everyone says white tee is a absolute essential. But Cheng is different :-)

I wonder if curry powder could be a good alternative, I might try it on a white shirt I stained with it. And I absolutely love the tattoo btw
That could work! Big thanks!

I'm Goth, we don't have these problems.
Plus, my style is always chic 😎
