      Thanks! Most of it is just music I license from Musicbed, but for this episode I did write one of the tracks myself. :)

      Thanks for watching. I think there's probably two more videos left in this series. And then infinitely more for the van build. Sooo much more to do on the van.

    10:35 What do the Northern Lights look like when not shown in a time lapse? Maybe they are too dark in visual light and the camera's exposure is long? This video is absolutely incredible Derek, I am enjoying every moment of it!

      @derekmctavish  Рік тому +2

      From what we experienced, the colours were extremely faint to our eyes. At times it just looked grey. After reading about it, I guess that's not always the case, but quite common. My understanding it has to do with how the rods and cones in our eyes take priority in low-light situations. It was actually really interesting to look at it in person, then be able to look at the image being captured on the camera, knowing it's the same thing but looks totally different.

      @@derekmctavish Thank you Derek, I’ve been trying to get that question answered for years now. Maybe it’s better in the dead of winter? When was this filmed?

    • @derekmctavish
      @derekmctavish  Рік тому +2

      @@mitchellbarnow1709 Yeah, I think more north, and better timing makes them stronger. There's forecasts that you can look at, and honestly it seems like it changes daily. But from what I gather, it's never going to look like it looks in photos. This was in April. :)

    • @mitchellbarnow1709
      @mitchellbarnow1709 Рік тому

      @@derekmctavish That was great for April! Is that an all year road that you took and would you consider driving all the way up in faint light? I know that people take winter trips north of the Arctic Circle to go to northern Sweden to sleep in ice 🧊 hotels and to see the Northern Lights, weather permitting.

    • @derekmctavish
      @derekmctavish  Рік тому +1

      So... I think it's sort of a year-round road, but not predictably. Like a storm may hit and it would take weeks to clear. The main reason it exists is to allow service access for all the dams that provide electricity for Quebec, so they do put in a lot of effort to clearing it. But any of the campsites along the way are pretty much inaccessible. I'd actually love to do the trip again in the summer on a motorcycle just to be able to contrast what it looks like with and without snow.
      What do you mean by faint light?

    Wow! Great videos and story telling. Just came across your channel from this series, I and team were planning to depart on Sunday for the Trans Taiga from Michigan, but because of the wildfires we've had to change plans. We'll be regrouping and preparing to tackle it again as soon as we can rea lign schedules. Thanks for sharing your journey. Maybe we'll attempt it earlier in the year!

      @derekmctavish  Рік тому

      Man that sucks, sorry you had to reschedule. I feel like we got pretty lucky for our schedules to all line up *and* be able to do this after a lot the snow was gone but before the fires started. Are you going to be publishing a video about it?
      Btw, omg your Crosstrek looks *awesome*
