  • This took a while to edit and upload..... Between lack of motivation, work and the loss of many files I gave up on this video a few times. Eventually though, I sucked it up and put in the time.
    Thanks to Daren for filing. My loss of footage was saved by his capturing many of the important moments.
    Enjoy our ride video to the end of the Trans-Taiga road.
    The Trip was from Thursday, Sept 12th. 2019 to Tuesday, Sept 17th.
    The thee bikes that participated:
    Me on a 2019 BMW F850GSA.
    Daren on a 2017 Honda Africa Twin.
    Thomas on a Triumphs Tiger 800.

    My brother nearly died at mile 180 on the Trans Taiga. Lost his bike and all his belongings to fire following a crash. He returned 2(?) years later and finished the trip.

      I believe I heard of that story. I’m not sure if it was a YT video or a story someone shared in some other way. But that does seem familiar. I’m glad he is ok and that he could overcome the crash and finish the adventure.

      There's a saying the locals have referring to the Pueblo mountains in southeastern Oregon - also a very remote area popular with overlanders - "if you break down up there, you’ll die up there". Glad you're brother is OK.

    Awsome! I'm planning doing it ELECTRIC on my ZERO motorcycle. I am aware that recharging will be a challenge and will need great calculations and backup. But your review of your trip make me more confident now Thanks you guys!

      A buddy bought a Brahma electric motorcycle, the one with a manual clutch and six speed transmission.
      he liked it for rides of no further than 40 miles out, 40 miles back.
      He took the advice of someone on a blog & discharged his battery hoping it would take a larger charge and give more range when he would recharge it. Instead, that destroyed the battery.
      he was told by the factory to get that battery out of the building. He’s keeping his motorcycle because it could burst into flames at any minute in that discharged states
      so he asked the factory what he hast to do to get a new battery. They told him that the battery Consist of seven battery cells. Each cell costs $6000. -times seven equals $42,000 for a battery for his Brahma electric motorcycle.
      he searched the Internet for two years, hoping to find a salvageable battery from a crashed Brahma motorcycle. He ended up selling the motorcycle for parts on eBay, because of the cost of the battery replacement.
      He pointed out on the phone with the factory that he could buy a brand new Brahma motorcycle with a brand new battery in it for $22,000. Why is the battery so much. They had no answer other than, they do not supply batteries, they have a deal with a battery supplier that supplies them at a bulk rate.

    My first real off-roading experience just had to be on one of the toughest roads... Oy vey. Oh and I realized the reason I was lagging often was because I tend to go pretty conservative on the throttle seeing that my Tiger had the smallest tank compared to your beasts :P

    • @Radioactive_Slime
      @Radioactive_Slime 3 роки тому +3

      What a cliffhanger! No spoilers please but, it was good to see you weren’t injured (?) in the crash. We’ll see how you fared in Part Two.
      I had a Tiger some years ago and was actually satisfied with the mileage. (I won’t say “fuel economy” though...) Do the other bikes have that much more fuel capacity or range?

    • @Peeohtrek
      @Peeohtrek  3 роки тому +3

      We definitely needed more smaller adventures under our belt before this attempt. You were doing well until that moment. Slower but nothing that was problematic. And like I said on the TT with loose surfaces speed actually helps. Weight on the back, slight breaking which favours the rear, look far a head and let the bike rock back and forth and do its thing. Either way, it was awesome that you were there with us and ,without giving any spoilers, you played a significant part in our adventure and saved our bacon in the next part.

    • @Peeohtrek
      @Peeohtrek  3 роки тому +3

      The gas issue wasn’t as problematic as we originally thought. We prepped for long distances and had extra fuel. But we quickly found out that there were fuel stops that weren’t discussed in forums. There was gas in most villages along the route. Airports had gas. And all of us had extra cans. I think the tiger and AT have similar range, around 350km…. The GSA with it’s oversized tank can do 540…. Thomas did great most of the way, wasn’t hurt in the crash and played a further part in our story and saved our bacon.

    • @Peeohtrek
      @Peeohtrek  3 роки тому +3

      And one last thing…. You did awesome. Trans Taiga is tough. People crash their bikes all the time on that road. That gravel often swallowed my front tire and made me panic. It’s a tough ride and you did awesome. And the fact that you weren’t hurt was a blessing! Now get a dirt bike and come riding with me.

    This is awesome, my friend!...I subscribed to your Channel sometime in the Summer of 2018, when I was making plans to drive from Toronto to the LG2 dam in Radisson.......Watching this brings back amazing memories........I took a picture at the junction of the James Baie and Trans - Taiga road...and promised myself that I'll do that trip someday...ALL 666 kms of it!.....I can't wait to see the rest of the trip................I personally consider this the loneliest road in North America (..and yes, I've done the Dempster (Yukon), The Dalton (Alaska), Highway 50 in Nevada, The Alaska highway from Fort Nelson, BC to Watson Lake, Yukon........and even The Trans Canada from Port Aux Basque, Newfoundland to Twillingate, NL......)....all done alone in a Nissan Altima!.........You folks have just an idea for the Canada Day long weekend........Thank you so much for this.......One question, my brother......how was the gas station situation on the Trans - Taiga? ..Is there a website or number available to check their status before I get on the highway?....Stay safe and keep smiling and riding!

    • @Peeohtrek
      @Peeohtrek  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I’m glad I could stir up some memories for you. It was an amazing ride on North America’s loneliest road.
      The gas situation is not as bad as what we thought. There is gas in the village near where we camped on KM 56. Then there is some gas at LG 3 on KM 100 again at LG 4 on KM 314 and at the mirage outfitters on KM 365. Past that Brisay has a gas station. We never had gas issues even though we were prepped for long hauls. Sometimes we would skip gas fill ups because we had plenty. We also had strangers ask if we needed fuel quite often.
      You have to go on the TT as it is one of the coolest places In this region!

      These "Adventure" videos always take long, one man productions often do. I feel slightly bad, as I know some people are waiting for content but I know they will ultimately understand. If I was making money it would be nice to hire editors but it is what it is. Work, family and often, (anything other than editing) gets in the way. LOL.
      Thanks for Subbing back. I love watching other peoples' ride videos. Learn tons and they are always pure and raw and not scripted or influenced by sponsors...

      That’s cool. Could be a number of us UA-cam guys who have made That ride and made cool videos about it but I’ll say it 100% me. Lol. I think most people aren’t really aware of that region so any promotion of that people and places is noticed by the locals. They appreciate us visiting their lands. I had a radio station from Chisasibi reach out and they said if I’m ever up there again to message them and they’ll do an interview.

    missed the premiere as I was eating supper - I am toying with the idea of an ADV bike next, can still do the long hauls, but opens more opportunities.... will see what I think when the time comes to replace my current ride. I have places to visit in time, so it just makes sense.

    • @Peeohtrek
      @Peeohtrek  3 роки тому +1

      On long hauls, bigger ADV bikes make so much more sense. Things like cruise control, heated grips, comfy seats and tall windscreens can make a 8 hour day feel like a 4 hour day. I had my old 690 set up for ADV rides but spending more than 4 hours on it was torture. So I sold it, got the 850 and never regretted it…
