- A fighting game character’s occupation isn’t always related to fighting. Sometimes they’re a chef, nurse, or various other careers. But sometimes they don’t have a job yet. They’re still in school. In this video, I go over the best students in fighting games, as in the ones that attend school. Maybe they also have a master at a martial arts school, but I’m talking about the ones that attend class during the day and fight by night, or even by day too and just skip class. And to add some teacher perspecitive to the mix, my mom, a teacher, will cohost.

Oh...there's also a school-themed fighting game called Battle High...and it has a sequel....supposedly.

Sakura is a "Monkey Punch" style character design which is part of the reason I feel she had so much staying power. She has a simple design, focusing on primary colors, and a unique set of details that make her iconic and fit outside the silhouette of the rest of the series. Add to that the fun differences in her moveset from the other shotos, and you have some immense staying power as a character for sure.
Sakura is a character that has too much potential to get rid of. The fact she is still young and learning, attempts to follow after Ryu's footstep to become a great fighter like him. I wouldnt be suprised if they try to make her the main character in the far future

I was expecting Athena for the KoF entry.
Athena and Kyo was a tough call for me. Kyo had some history in the plot going to school, which gave me more to talk about on the subject. Athena really doesn't have any other student aspects outside of some of her costumes and her bio stating that she's a student/pop idol. Still, I knew she'd be a notable omission, so I made her stage the background for the numbers as a secret honorable mention.

Maybe next time, can you please make a top 10 list of more fighting game students as a sequel to this list since students in fighting games are the prodigies of their franchise's legacies and are among the most well developed character stereotypes fighting game developers ever made? I'd die to see Heart Aino, Saki Tsuzura, Hyde Kido, Orie Harada, Hinako Shijo, Kisarah Westfield, Akiha Tohno, Satsuki Yumizuka and even Shiki Tohno show up somewhere...
I really feel like playing Rival Schools right now. I love that game. If I made the list I might have shown some bias to Roy, since we share a name. Batsu is a good pick though.

It’s great that Akira’s announcement and recent trailer has hyped up Rival School’s cred...real shame Capcom hasn’t announced a collection to be released so people know what the series is about. And yes, we need a collection, because there’s never been rereleases of the games from their original ports. Even before a sequel, we need ports for context and reference (and translate the school sims left out of the Western releases).
I feel Capcom needs to release a lot of their niche fighting games in a collection like they did with Captain Commando and their beat em ups. Rival Schools, Star Gladiators, Cyberbots, etc, would be great to introduce to new fighting game fans since it's hard to find them mentioned in anything modern, outside of the characters or costumes getting a bit of exposure in Street Fighter. As you said, I just want some ports. They don't need to give it the Darkstalkers Resurrection or Third Strike Online treatment (although, I would like that).
@@MrTopTenList that would be better than nothing, and theoretically that’s what Capcom Arcade Stadium is supposed to be...Y’know, when they’re not too busy to put three Street Fighter II’s, which all are EASILY available across every platform in its own collection. 🙄
The other thing is, do these themed collections or collections with future DLC allow for purchase tracking and help to evaluate interest in the individual ports, as Capcom is infamous for? If a future Darkstalkers or Rival Schools entry on CAS sells really well, will Capcom take that into consideration for a sequel? It would suck if the DLC sells well and they decide to do an individual collection to evaluate interest, but no one buys it because they already just bought it (a similar scenario to what happened with Darkstalkers Resurreftion), and Capcom throws the fans under the bus AGAIN!
Top 10 Brawlers - fighters with no martial art discipline or magical powers doing what they can with what they've got, by kicking, punching, etc. Battling with pure instinct like Diego from Dead or Alive 6, Cody from Final Fight, Miguel from Tekken, and Mugen from Samurai Champloo.
In Kyo's case canonically he's just an idiot who can't pass highschool and just blames everything on the villans, Iori (Kyo's Rival) gets into the same situation like Kyo but he still finished highschool and is now a successful Bass player in a Jazz band. Anyways stay in school kids and don't be like Kyo

It's probably obvious that Kyo Kusanagi was once the most recognizable Student Character in KOF from 94 to 98 Era.
Please don't forget *Athena Asamiya*, *Hinako Shijou* and *Malin* because they literally make up the "Highschool Girls Team" while competing in the KOF2003 tournament.

Speaking of being teacher like your mom, I am a Special Education teacher. Being so, can I request top list of characters with disabilities. It can be divided in to two lists: physical and mental. For example, Daredevil is legally blind superhero (physical disability). Or Hulk having uncontrolled agression (mental disorder). I would really appreciate it so much! Always happy watching your videos!
honestly since Rival schools had the "every character is a student so want to incldue them all" franchise goal already I woudln't of gone with Yu from Persona 4's fighting game and gone more with Ren/Joker for Smash Brothers since honestly I think the point of being a student in a game where most aren't is much more interesting especially with one as diverse a roster as Smash brothers.

What about a list about “Pacifist Fighters”? You know, the fighters who never want to actually fight because they want to find a peaceful solution and fights when they feel like they have no other options which is like, all the time in fighting games.
Such as how Heart Aino would rather make friends than fight.
Sakura is my personal favorite, maybe because of her courage despite her being the shortest compared to the rest of Street Fighter's cast.

@The Zoom And even if I was referring to the Naruto character you'd still be wrong, because the only series that the Naruto franchise's Sakura is useless in is in the original (aka pre-Shippuden). In Shippuden, Sakura in the Naruto franchise becomes one of the greatest medical ninjutsu users on the planet, so that makes her far from useless nowadays. People who still call her useless have only watched the original series at left it at that.
Batsu appears in CvS2 but in a super that Kyosuke uses, Athena Asamiya is earlier than Sakura, but Yuri Sakazaki is possibly earlier than her...but I don't remember if AoF2 was before KoF '94. If there's a female student fighter before 1994 I don't know.

In my class however, there's Aino Heart-chan, Tsuzura Saki-chan, Asamiya Athena-chan, Shijou Hinako-chan, Yabuki Shingo-kun, Kidou Hyde-kun, Harada Orie-chan, Nanase-chan, Tohno Shiki-kun, Tohno Akiha-chan and maybe even Yumizuka Satsuki-chan. I think most of the student characters fight in their uniforms because they are caught off guard.

I believe it was Yuri Sakazaki in Art of Fighting 2, who had "student" listed as her occupation, which came out in 1994, 2 years before Sakura premiered in SF Alpha 2. I may be wrong on that, but I believe she takes the trophy there.

Sakura is kinda "cheating" though since she is also a playable character in Rival School and also have close relationship with Hinata Wakaba in that game and they were not schoolmates. So yeah kinda "cheating" because two Rival School characters were included in this topic. Ryu and Ken could also be put as an alternative or honourable mentions though since Gouken is still their sensei so to speak
