I worked at a bike shop for a bit, it makes it a bit easier if you put a strap under the crown of the fork and over the top tube so the fork cant drop out of the bike while you take it apart or assemble it.
@OLKIE I liked the helmet! And I loved the fact you looked like you were making it up as you went along - very relatable! It's given me confidence to change the forks on my Rockhopper. Nice tips in the comments though about adjusting the forks.
I am thinking of buying the rockhopper comp. Do you think its worth it over the standard and sport or should a buy one of them and just upgrade them as time goes by?
Hey bro, have you got an 180 mm rotor on the rear? I'm thinking about upgrading it and maybe you can tell me if the caliper adapter is PM OR IS. Thanks a lot! Nice bike btw
Hey man, what would you recommend for someone who uses the bike 70% on roads and 30 % trails with steep hills? Rockhopper 29 sport or GT Avalanche 29 sport? Thank you in advance mate!
I recommend the Rockhopper Sport, that is exactly why I bought it in 2018, mix paved trails and real MTB trails. They did not have the sport in stock so I got the Comp ($750 in 2018). I now have a Fuse, which is very nice, but now that I have it (it is nicer), the rockhopper was fine, just add a dropper for trails (real trails) and a fork. That is it. converting to 1x is not really an upgrade so that can wait. If you are not doing real MTB, i.e. > 1.5 drops, lot of roots, no need to upgrade anything. On my Comp, I do very rooted trails and 1.5 ft drops no problem, the Fuse's frame but mostly he nicer air fork eats up a lot of those roots.
@@jaguarreal9116 thank you so much for your answer. After the time has passed I thought of buying the rockhopper comp version also 2021. I dont really know what else could I get in this price point of 800 bucks. Thanks mate!
Just some suggestions for the future. If you are going to shoot footage in your garage, get some lighting to alleviate the heavy shadows. Why do you have your helmet on? It's way more distracting than the bike on the wall. That part is called a crown race. You have to tune and adjust a fork for what you are riding. If it is bottoming out, you need to add air and adjust the compression and rebound. That particular fork is an absolute beast for trail riding and much more aggressive riding than just XC. Keep up the content.
Yes, the lighting is bad for sure. The helmet is for comic relief, I suppose it isn't that funny though. I've adjusted the air pressure/rebound however it doesn't make any difference on the fork I received.

The China fork is so light because it has no damper oil and only an air damper that cannot be opened for maintenance. It's not 120mm but 110 ... have fun with Lutuuu.Your front brake is not well adjusted ...
I haven't ridden it much so who knows what will happen. I hadn't adjusted my calipers yet, I just threw them on. I said in the video that I was going to have to adjust them.
Nice job. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'd much rather learn to DIY than take things to a shop.
Good stuff kid!! Gotta love your confidence & the ability to make it look easy as you get the work done.
Stock = 6.5 lb New = 3.75 lb
Nearly 2.75 lb drop, thats huge! Not to mention better ride as well
Thanks for posting this
The only thing I'm worried about is the quality of the fork. We will see how it holds up over time.
Right, hope you’ll give a review after a few months
Unrelated: ever heard you’re a Mikey Day (from SNL) look alike?
I probably will do a follow-up. Haha no one has ever told me that before.

I have changed 1 fork before this but it was years ago. I'm glad it showed you that changing forks is not as daunting as people think.
Ah this got me a bit confused, as I thought the RH Expert came with the Judy Solo Air turnkey item. Guess it's the "new" 2022 version or so?
Update on the fork? I have a 2021 Rockhopper comp and looking into a new or pre-owned fork.

Is the rockhopper a straight or tapered head tube?
Ya gotta put the reccomend air pressure in it based on your body weight.
I did.
what air forks do you recommend for the 26 specialized rockhopper?

Not a bad judge of weight actually.

The shock that came with my Rockhopper feels like a pogo stick. It's the worst, they could of put something better.
Same. The fork I installed feels much better but I'm skeptical of the durability.

Helmet as a protective gear when fixing you bike, I think gloves will do instead 🤙
True, it was more of joke than anything.
Any update on the durability?
Still working fine. Just don't expect it do take a beating every weekend. I would stick to moderate cross country riding with the fork.
I hear a real bad hissing sound. Otherwise I hope that fork doesn't break 😨
I think I need a new wireless mic, I'm pretty sure that's what the sounds is.

you said it bottoms out easy. can you put more air in it to counter that i guess the downside being its stiffer
I kept putting air in it but I wouldn't get any stiffer.

I have 2 of these forks, they are 120mm travel. The rebound and compression needs to be adjusted properly for them to work correctly.
Others have done a good review of these forks and better than suntour your review is biased and junk.
I've had multiple low-end Suntour and RockShox air forks and they were all much better than this fork. That is just my personal experience.
