  • In this video we review the best affordable skincare for acne prone skin.
The best ingredients to minimize the appearance of pores or "shrink pores" include Niacinamide, Retinol and BHA or Salicylic Acid but which company is better for these ingredients The Inkey List or The Ordinary? In this video we go over how to minimize pores and also which company is best for these ingredients the Inkey List vs The Ordinary. We also review Squalane and Squalene and what role they play in minimizing or shrinking pores.
Lastly we discuss general tips for minimizing pores. Including what ingredients to avoid that clog pores such as Isopropyl Myristate, Coconut Oil, Olive oil, and Cleansing Oils and Balms plus which makeup is best for minimizing the appearance of pores.
You want to look for non-comedogenic makeup.
I also mention my favorite sunscreen which is EltaMD Tinted. Great for minimizing pores as well.

I absolutely *love* that you provided the additional information about which products work better with makeup!!! That’s so important and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve discontinued using what was likely an amazing product because of how my makeup looked on top of it. *HOWEVER*... I’m happy to report that my makeup game has been reduced down to almost nothing anyway thanks to 1) the pandemic and 2) perfecting my skincare routine (courtesy of your recommendations).

for the peeling niacinamide from the ordinary: using less helps a lot. 1 or max 2 drops for face and neck is enough (it's 10%, which is a loot, so one drop is more than enough).

My favorite Retinoid is the ordinary 2% emulsion. I’ve tried all of the Inkeys and Ordinary Retinols. It’s just good for me. And it’s an PM product so I haven’t tried it before makeup. Usually with makeup the spreadable primer is great on top of most products.

I wish I could book an appointment with u! It’s a shame my city (Grand Rapids, MI) doesn’t have one black dermatologist or one who is knowledgeable about African American skin. I’ve felt so helpless guessing at would help me just to be disappointed because I’ve NEVER seen any positive results or improvement from anything I’ve tried via a dermatologist or a esthetician. Lots of money wasted over the years, lots of tears and frustration. Your videos make me feel I’m getting the knowledge necessary to understand how the skin works, why things haven’t worked and given me hope to try at improving my skin again with some of your suggestions. Thank u so much for what you do!

Love your beauty knowledge! I was wondering. If cleansing oils and balms are not the best for pores, is it better to just use a good makeup remover as a first cleanse? Of course, some cleansers are good at removing makeup too. Are there any makeup removers that you recommend? Thank You. :) ~debbie
