1994년 고1.. 부산 부경정보처리학원에서 친구와 난 학원 공부에 싫증이 나서 바로 옆 세진컴퓨터랜드에 들어가 거기 직원이셨던 누나에게 재미있는 게임 추천받았는데 그게 바로 프린세스메이커2........ 전설의 시작.........이었다 학원으로 돌아와서 몰래 설치시작 그리고 실행......... 처음 나오는 메인곡..... 마음이 녹아내림.... 웅장함의 시작이었다..... 처음 정했던 아버지의 이름을 친구의 이름으로 하니 거기 자막으로 올라오면서 친구의 이름이 나오니까 서로가 우왁!! 소리지르고 신기하면서 두근거리게 했던..... 게임......... 이제 그 학원도...세진컴퓨터랜드도 다 사라진 지금..... 친구는 결혼후 어떻게 지내는지...까마득~ 지금도 메인곡만 들으면 그 친구가 떠오르면서 재미있었던 추억이 한가득......
Yeah, its sadly very obscure beyond Japan, but inside Japan its popular enough to make 5 sequels and some side games. Definitely more than niche inside Japan. I got lucky to get a chinese MS-DOS port back in 1995.
@@StriderVM I've tried to play all of them after 2, but only got I think.. 5 to work with English patch. One of those situations where I wish I could read kanji.
This sounds so much better than almost any Western DOS game. I honestly had no idea the YMF262 could sound so good. Japanese devs were simply better at composing in FM.
정말 저도 고등학교때 이 게임에 미쳐있었죠. 그때가 DOS 6.0인가 썼을때 였는데....옛날 추억이 새록새록 기억이 납니다. 저도 이 게임을 친구를 통해서 알게 되었는데 이 배경음악이 너무 좋아서 자주 들었던 생각이 납니다. 그때 처음 사운드 카드라는 것을 알았고 몇 달치 용돈을 모아서 사운드 카드 (그 당시 애드립카드로 기억) 샀던 기억이 납니다. 아련한 예전이지만 지금이나마 다시 이 음악을 접하니 저도 모르게 눈물이 살짝....^^ 좋은 음악 잘 듣고 갑니다.
Theres even now a fully translated English version on Steam. Its a good time to try out these game series. As a personal pick, Princess Maker 2 is the most newbie friendly, you can muck around to see what sticks yet dont feel penalized for it.
If someone told me that 23:11 was an unused track from Rusty, I'd 100% believe them. Not surprising, since it's from the same composer, features the same leitmotifs, and uses the same sound engine, but still.
I've been playing PM2 (DOS version) for like a decade now... and this is literally the first time I've ever heard the music. Damn I've been missing out.

Actually this soundtrack was created for Yamaha YM3812 OPL2 FM synth chip but I know that Sound Blaster 16 with YMF262 OPL3 are reverse compatible with OPL2 based sound cards like Adlib and earlier Sound Blaster. This soundtrack uses PMD sound driver with no MIDI support, for MIDI it was created MMD sound driver in this game.
For these kinds of videos, I usually just put what I used to record the soundtrack in the title. In this case it's the CT1740. For the midi variant I used an XG Lite Keyboard.

+SypherAP There's a few websites that will convert UA-cam video's to MP3 audio - I'm downloading the file now actually. Am putting together a review video for PM2 and my copy of the game doesn't have any sound. So thank you for this.
Nobody puts up the whole sound track because it gets taken down eventually if it sounds too accurate. The game should sound like the Windows Refine (WAVE mode) or PS2 version if setup correctly. The DOS version is based on the PC-98 version, which the sound is somewhat nerfed since PC's do not have a Yamaha OPNA, regardless if you use SB or MT-32 mode. Early Windows versions (16 color) only use the onboard midi. Later Windows "refine" versions use whatever onboard midi is available and sound terrible on the default "GS" synth available in Windows XP and later, and hence have a "Wave" sound track available. The only version that sounds significantly different on purpose is the Sega Saturn version which is not available on youtube. This is a characteristic of "Sega" ports of pretty much everything.
So, for DOS version there are WAV, SB MIDI, and MT-32 MIDI? I remember playing it in MIDI mode (don't remember which one) on SB card, but that card is no longer working in modern OS, and I can't setup MIDI emulator properly. It seems it's time to try again after those years. Can you recommend what mode is better to aim for? SB MIDI?
The Princess Maker 2 DOS version that is out in the wild is an unauthorized (eg pirate) review copy that escaped and has drivers for SB MIDI and MT-32 MIDI. The REFINE Windows versions are GM-MIDI and WAV. If you set the game up correctly on a PC, you'll probably be more satisfied with the MT-32 track, but the SB/Adlib track isn't any worse since the game was originally designed for a specific kind of FM-synth found in the PC-98 (OPNA) I'd suggest trying to find one of the soundtrack discs vgmdb.net/album/956 A lot of Japanese OST's are hard to find (especially if you're outside of Japan) but sometimes they show up on eBay and such. Look for "princess maker 2 nec pc 9801" if you want a better idea of what it originally sounds like on the Japanese computers.
I do not know what version I have (it's so under MS-DOS), but it allows using both Sound Blaster and MT-32 or GM midi synthesis for music. I used the bundle "SB + GM midi" (with SGM 2.01), and it sounded very cool.
Try running the setup/install program. Like many old DOS games, it'll let you pick devices. If you're not actually putting in in Dosbox, that could be a problem too.

pm2가 모든부분에서 뛰어난 명작이란것을 싫어요가 하나도 없다는것이 증명한다
아직까지도 육성시뮬레이션 부문에서는 프메2를 따라갈 명작이 없지요. 벌써 25년이 넘은 게임인데.

286 AT 스펙에 하드 40메가 램1메가의 컴퓨터에서 이 게임을 겨우겨우 돌리던 기억이 나네요 ㅎㅎ 게임 최소사양에 겨우 맞던 초창기 PC에서도 너무 재밌게 했던 그 게임. 인생게임이죠.
애들한테 아이에 대한 사랑은 나은정보다 기른정이 맞다는걸 느끼게 해줬던 게임임. 이걸 못겪어본 세대가 자라서 비혼을 선택 한게 아닐까 싶기도 ㅠㅠ

On the beach track, isn't there supposed to be a crashing wave sound?
I remember having the crashing wave sound. It might be a separate sound file played on top of the track.

I"m playing this on DOSBox, and I can't get any sound at all. How do I configure the sound for this game?
Try running the setup/install program. Like many old DOS games, it'll let you pick devices. If you're not actually putting in in Dosbox, that could be a problem too.
Go to pm2 folder and execute setup.exe
On the sound card option select sound blaster
