The first reason why Filipinos want to work abroad is because of better job opportunities. Unlike in the Philippines where there is a large number of jobs, the salary is too low even for professionals.

I live in Atlantic Canada. We have a fair number of Philippine immigrants in a smallish town. Mny came as temps in the fishing plants....many immigrated. They are GREAT folks. Hard working and very adapted to our little Acadian and Celtic community. Wonderful people!
I left Philippines to Canada in 1996 for better life. In those year only few Pilipino's migrated in Canada and its a big culture change aside from the weather. Canadian will not hire you without Canadian experience and you will feel some discrimination too and some employers take you for granted.
It's so sad many of Filipinos left our mother land for job opportunities but onething I can tell you if you find jobs in Philippines, it's better to stay. I regret that I left my mother land bec. I realize happiness is not about having more money, nice car, big house bec. all those time and memories that you're away is gone. You don't see your children grow up. Some married a foreigner to get a better life, but its not the answer and you may end up separated bec. of culture difference. Be glad and happy with our skin color. Our Phil. senate should pass into law against discrimination about age limit and for those women who have children to get hired for job. I hope BBM will succeed to create more job opportunities for Pilipino's.
If their is a way, stay in Philippines and grow old together with your family. True Happiness is being surrounded by your loved ones and to be closer in relationship to Abba Father in heaven that bless you, guide you, that give you the true meaning of happiness.

I disagree. Poverty and corruption will eat you alive and suck the living soul out of you in the Philippines. You made the right decision by leaving the Philippines.
Going abroad to have an opportunity to work, and provide a better life for your family is not something to feel bad about... Last time I was there, I was told the unemployment hovers around 50% because the jobs just aren't there... That is really sad... 🙁

It also feeds the superiority complex of certain people. We are all human beings with equal value, beauty and dignity. You are absolutely beautiful just as you are.
I live in Switzerland and took Graphic Design, it's sad that most Filipinos don't see the value in design. It's a multi-billion industry. Really grateful that I live here & my Filipino parents are extremely supportive.

Hi Rubeauti. Great interviews. I don't think these girls have any idea how difficult it is to go to western countries. IF they can get permission to even leave the phillipines, there are all the requirements to get a western visa. Very few ever get a US Visa and Canada is getting harder and harder as well. Both countries are very selective. Another problem why they think westerners are rich is because they are looking at the income from the foreign perspective but they are still thinking about their expenses from a Philippines perspective. For example, the Korea mention of 80K seems like a lot of money when you think of your expenses in the Philippines. But you have to consider what your expenses will be in Korea instead. That will not leave much, if any left over. It's a low salary in Korea, but you still have to pay the same expenses as everyone else in Korea. Just my two pesos worth. Keep up the good work.
Love the Philippines and it's friendly welcoming people. Can't wait to bring my kids over for a holiday next year. Province style, banka showers, nipa huts, beaches, shutters (no air con), empty beaches, simple living, friendly smiling people, best place in the world. Arguable… if you earn 80,000 a month in South Korea but you continue the simple life style as before, that money will be ok. Sharing dorm rooms, no eating out, hand laundry, no airco, food from fresh market, plain drinking water, no fancy mobile phone + subscriptions, second hand clothes.

Many average expat in PH get about $1,500-$1,800 SSI per mnth. That's about 83,000-100,000 PHP per month. That's big money to many Filipinas. Spoken money is rich in Philippines, but poor in USA. 😢

Especially after covid and inflation. More and more working people are becoming homeless after a 30 to 50% increase in rent.
My phil wife and I have lived in the U.S. for 14 years. We bring home after taxes around 7000 usd per month. We work blue collar factory jobs. We make car seats for VW. We work 12 hours a day mostly 6 days a week. We barely get by in the U S but we have invested in the phil for 14 years. I cant wait to live in the phil for 1200 usd per month
@@timothyowens4547 here $20 exchanges for a 1,000 peso note. 1,000 php does not purchase much in Philippines, but for people here it's really hard to earn 1,000 php ($20). I think this is the land of people who try to be happy with little or no money. Very different than capitalism. There are other countries available also. Good luck to your future.

I've met many ladies that work as nannies. The one's that work in the US, Europe and Canada seem to be treated well by their sponsoring family for the most part. Unfortunately, some other countries they were treated like slaves. They had to work every day with no days off and had to even do house work outside.

I have a Filipina co-worker who live and work here in Sweden. Even as a nurse and single mom of two children, she can still live a good life, and still set aside some money to help relatives back in the Filipines. All this despite that living costs here in Sweden is fairly expensive
I think that’s the case for a nurse in any country abroad.
Great interviews! I wish all these ladies good luck in their future occupations. I do hope that if any Filipinos get job offers abroad, they will fully investigate where they will be living and what their true expenses will be. With inflation, rents and other expenses have greatly increased. I helped one Filipina translate a PDF work contract from French to English. It turned out that the offer discussed in their emails was totally different than the actual contract. There's always someone looking to take advantage of young foreign workers.

My son is a graphics artist here in New York City. He has the same problem: lots of competition and companies don't want to pay well. You end up working as an "independent contractor."
I love your videos because I have gf, Pinay in the Philipines. Helps give me better insight of what is really going on. She has her own business but it's slow now because of Covid19, still. She also works part time at another job.
I married my Pinay 20 years ago when she was very young & it took me 15 years to convince her to leave Pinas.
She grew up in a slum & after arriving in Australia is now completing her Nursing RN degree after 5 years of working & studying in a university here.
In march we now go back to Pinas to live permanently in Mindanao on a surf Island as I am going to retire early, I hate working as much as I do and she is fed up with living abroad.
She has very good points for going home, so much so she has convinced me !!!!!

I don't know if you heard all the problems that are going on in Saudi Arabia lately with the OFW Filipina's there. Some of girls have been beat up, raped , disappeared and killed .
It's a big problem when the Filipina's have to give there passports to the employer because there's sometimes there employer don't want them you to leave and put pressure on them not to leave.
There's been 3 different altercations that have been on Facebook in the last 6 weeks.
Good ro hear about the careers. You should keep some contacts in case folks like Angela, the graphics artist, wants to do some freelance graphics work. Her career should be in high demand in the coming years!
I've heard some sad stories from Filipinos who worked abroad in the middle East, Hong Kong and Singapore as domestic helpers. Some of them treated like slaves and wouldn't get paid their full salaries and got their passports taken by their employers who tried to keep them from leaving. Never give up your passport as that is government property that is to be kept in your possession at all times and it's illegal for any employer or anyone else to take it from you. Canada is the best country to immigrate to in my opinion as they pay better and have better laws to protect workers. I lived a while in Toronto Canada and seen a lot of Filipinos living there and having a good life. Some of the Filipinos in Canada would be given a "show money" loan to get there and would give back once they were established there. I can understand why Filipinos want to work abroad for better money and better life as most jobs in the Philippines doesn't pay a good wage to survive on.
@@Rubeauti Yes I really felt sorry for those Filipinos who were married with children and had to work abroad to support their families. It would put a strain on their marriage being apart and they would miss their children very much when they worked abroad. Some of them if they got lucky could bring their family after a while if they became permanent residents and citizens. Others would live many years apart from their families and their marriages would break up and their children grow up without a mom or a dad working abroad. I've heard lots of sad stories from my Filipino friends but I've also heard some very good stories from Filipinos who became very successful too working abroad. Many nurses, doctors, teachers and other professionals have become very successful working abroad.
Meanwhile there are groups of Filipino scholars coming to study their degree in these countries, free scholarship with bonds in top MNCs. They are guaranteed a job that even local find it hard to enter because those jobs are super competitive. Starting pay can be 20-30% higher than the locals. As mentioned, there are different groups of Filipino. The scholars typically don't have to worry. The government even provide free lodging while they study here xD
The way they treat woman in the Middel East is just terribel. Social control no humanrights whats so ever. If you come to my place Norway, as a aupair. Then you are protected by the law. 37,5 thats the limit you can work a week . You have free food and apparment. The payment every month it's regulated to at least 500 Euro. Never or less the same in US $.
Grass isn't always greener on the other side. Everywhere has its own struggles daily.

One thing about choosing Canada is once you get your citizenship you can pretty much travel anywhere in the world with relative ease. Plus the minimum wage here in Alberta is 650 pesos(15 dollars) per hour. Most places pay more than minimum wage to start.
But cost of living and taxes will eat that up.
I have lived in PH for six years...first in Pasay City and finally in Bacolod City...I know of the struggles many Filipinas have to go through and when they work the salary is very low even with a college degree. This lady I know was a single mother and three days after she got her salary it was finished just a few pesos left for jeepney fare and lunch for her daughter..it was heartbreaking to see...i used to help her now and then to buy groceries..but then I left PH but told her to try and get a job overseas...she was reluctant as she was over 40 years and thought that no one would employ her...anyway she got a job as a baby sitter in Saudi and from what she says, she has been treated very well by the family.....even the grandmother loves her and gave her a new cell phone.....she´s extremely lucky as I have heard that many of the girls get abused by their employers...I think the salary is 20k monthly and she has a great amount of freedom to make youtube videos when she is out in the mall with the kids...... interesting interview but that is by no means strange that Filipinas seek a better life abroad or to meet a foreigner....It happens in many other cultures for sure.
One can understand the dreams and desires of the girls. It just amazes me that these girls don't even get the idea to delve more into the countries of their dreams and what opportunities are really open to them. Almost every country has an embassy in the Philippines, which you can also visit online and what the requirements are. On You tube you can get visual information about the land of your dreams. There are enough videos. The girls should not underestimate the climatic conditions. Because the country Canada often fell as a dream country. May the summer be pleasant there. but the winters are more than harsh. One lady with 3 children will hardly be able to move abroad with 3 children. Every migration authority will be cumbersome. It is, she finds an employer who fully vouches for her and the children. And a guarantee can have far-reaching consequences. The guarantor is held liable for everything, e.g. if a child falls ill etc.
You are such a great interviewer, I'm actually amazed how easily you can get complete strangers to talk about such personal questions to you in front of a camera. You would be great at sales.
Rubeauti, you may want your friends to check out Poland. There is a Filipina (Joy Salve) who has a UA-cam channel were she talks about living and working there. I also understand she recently married a guy from Poland. She covers a lot of information regarding what are the legal documents you may need and work applications.
A local worker who is earning P25k/month is contributing more to the government than an OFW who is earning P40k abroad..
I know who built the new Cebu-Cordova Bridge and Clark International Airport, and it wasn't these women. She interviewed women who were available during the daytime, and you know what that means.

15:30 the girl is very smart and beautiful , speaks English very fluently. I am very sure she is in ldr with an American.
Not a mystery. I'm American and I joined the Army to get money for college. And then I went to remote Alaska (Shemya island) because the pay was 2x more than I could earn at home. Some people do whatever it takes to improve their lives. Some people watch TV and play online. True for all people all over the world. The interesting thing to me is the percentage of populations who do what it takes seems to remain basically the same all over the world.
Filipino-Americans are the 2nd highest earning Asian group in America, just behind Indians.
Filipinos should go more into IT rather than medical fields.
@@cruzergo I disagree, we will always need medical professionals. Who knows the future of IT. Also, most Filipino-Americans lives in expensive areas, so the $80k they make per family on average is misleading. Yet doing good overall.
Another enjoyable interviewing video Rubeauti, you’re a natural at these and make people feel at ease with you. You plan interesting questions also, without making people feel awkward. It’s a pity the work situation is so bad there, that girls need to leave their families or children to earn enough to support them. If they are working as DH or nanny, they are lucky if they have a good employer. I’ve heard some good but some sad stories where there were not treated well, or even fed properly and working ridiculous hours. Even worse some were beaten. The Philippines economy was growing before Covid, I hope it will get back to normal soon and start to prosper again.
For a comparison, do a future vlog asking similar questions to young Filipino guys to see what goals/ambitions they have.

Ok so at 15.75 hour at 50 hours a week minus 25 percent for taxes. take home is roughly $571 a week.

Winnipeg, Canada says come to our city. We have a huge Phillipino community, great people.
Not sure about their visas or any of that but there are a lot of Asian and Filipino workers in the casinos in Las Vegas, and in the hospitals, though it is a busy, chaotic town with increasing crime. but last I was there I saw ads for housekeepers for $25 dollars an hour. Which obviously is a lot, plus they get the tips in the room too. I hate to say it, I studied advertising too like the one girl, and I don't think those jobs would even pay as much. Unfortunately here in the US, a lot of people want the cool jobs too, and so they pay less, I found out when I tried to get into advertising. But she should try to look into advertising agencies, they would need graphic design people I would think, I don't know so much about companies in general.
Yeah Canada! We have more Jolibee's opening all the time and Filipinos can have a taste of home-far from home. Seriously, there are opportunities and you will earn more than back home but things are also a lot more expensive. Minimum wage in these parts of the country is equivalent to about P660 per hour. Sounds like a lot but with the average 1 bedroom condo renting for about P90,000/month...do the math. Many people here struggle to get by every month and I have no idea how people working minimum wage make it work. There is poverty and homelessness and other terrible things but there are supports and programs and organizations always willing to help those that need it.

Life is hard here too (abroad) , and we are struggling here too! you work hard and you cannot save money. Anyway, come over and experience it firsthand:) But be prepared to work harder!
Grass is always greener at 1st sight and the mirage of an opportunity. All is risk..okay when you are but risky when I'd you have dependents. Family support is very crucial. Don't yearn for material things as they will mislead you....time is the most valuable commodity next to health/family.

Best climate in the country (very mild winters) and having both the mountains and the ocean is fantastic. Biggest challenge are the rents which are the highest in the country.

I understand that the living wage is better in some other countries, but in many other countries people are also suffering from hyperinflation and other financial restrictions. It’s true, but Filipinos are looking for worthy of struggle. Okay lang sa abroad kahit sobrang hirap.. worth it naman para maka survive at magbigay ng better opportunity. Unlike dito sa Pinas, ang hirap na nga pahirap pa Gobyerno tsaka kapwa Filipino.

Facial expressions and body language say a lot about the life of the house cleaners. For most, there is little opportunity in the Philippines. It's heartbreaking really...
It's a phenomenon known as Involution i.e. too many human beings doing the same thing at the same time within the same geographical setting.
Imagine 10,000 gyms were opened in a city of 1 million residents. Competition will be extremely fierce among the gym owners in establishing themselves in the local scene because :
-too many competitors offering similar products and services within the same geographical area
-the source of existing clients can be limited in which the a gym owner may need to explore new clients by organizing roadshows in nearby towns & suburbs (a strategy that will soon be used by other gym owners)
-not every resident is into exercise and wellness because it's an individual's lifestyle choice

If your nurse there lots of Philippines ones here in Australia. It hard living in most countries because cost of living so high even though higher wages
I must admit that this is a kind of a little bit on the comical side because most of those girls mentioned to Canada and I do believe I think once they get to Canada that as soon as they experience the first day of winter there will be willing to pack their bags and head back to the Philippines real quick. I am also assuming that the countries that they are wishing to go to is probably the countries were there online relationship is from. If you want weather that is comparable to the Philippines and then definitely the southern part of Florida and Hawaii will fit that description. Only difference being no mountains in Florida. If you want to experience all four seasons then probably the middle eastern side of the United States in states such as Maryland, Virginia, northern part of North Carolina, Kentucky, northern part of Tennessee, southern part of Ohio, southern part of Indiana, Southern part of Illinois, Missouri is a good prime area in the United States to be able to comfortably experience all four seasons. Cold enough to experience snow. Hot enough in the summer to experience high heat. Mild springtime with a lot of blooms, and good enough fall time colors when the leaves change for the scenery

I live in florida shes smart its way to cold in canada! Florida is warm only about 2 months that is on the colder side but its not real cold
It seems like the best reason to go abroad is that if you save 10-20% of your salary to send back to your family it goes a long way in most of the Philippines. But life in the west is very expensive too.
Obviously unless you especially wish to live in another country. Some people feel most at home away from their original home country. It can be the landscapes, vegetation, foods…
Those ladies should look into the climate in Canada. It's nice in the summer. But all of Canada is north of the coldest states in the contiguous US.
Wow, 10,000 pesos a month is $236 Canadian. You’d get that in like 10 hours at a beginner job.

My wife preferred UK to Philippines my son says he will stay in UK as he will enter higher education and will only visit Philippines to see family he realise the opportunitys outside of the Philippines its sad really that he and my wife feel like that but lack of education lack of opportunity to build a good future

Sorry to say, but in other countries there are also bill and taxes. Earning money, and paying bills is everywhere hard. High rents prices, oand energie bills.
Some bennefits are better, social security, and healthcare is better. If i could i would live there, but because of high bills and costs here, i cant bearly safe
The "All foreigners are rich" comment at the 10 minute mark. Yes, compared to Filipinos all foreigners are indeed rich. But we are not rich in Western standards! We have a nice life and are able to go overseas for a modest holiday once a year😄

I understand the need to go abroad for a good salary better job opportunities, but the cultural differences are big, and it's not cheap here in the U.S.

I hate to say it but first generation immigrants often have it hard. A college education in a marketable field can change that though. Nursing, engineering, accounting are good choices. Their children are the benefactors.

You-Tube videos can Close-Caption Spanish, or Google Meet can translate to Spanish. I prefer Southern Spain, Malaga and below. Inland gets really hot.
It is not entirely true. We have many Filipinos who are not poor, but still go abroad.
The main reason why Filipinos leave is because we do not love our country enough, esp those who are above middle class and still work abroad. Maybe because We are brought up to believe that the other side is better. Sure there are many who are poor who work as Domestic Helper, but I think there are far more professionals who go abroad because in the first place, they have the means to do so.
Many of us want to skip the minimum wage. I do not blame them as our society always look up to those living abroad, and in the process, people feel pressure to go abroad. I experience this since I graduated. Everyone is like telling you to go abroad, even tho, you can find a job and is willing to start at minimum job
I experienced minimum wage in the Philippines and I worked my way up. I am in my late 30's and my colleagues or people like me at my age are mostly stable financially and have stable jobs. There is no point to go abroad. But I still see some of my friends who are still applying to migrate, simply because they believe life is better abroad. I do not get this mindset now, since I am well traveled and is actually living in a country with the best welfare benefits (Husband reason). I later realized that our beliefs about life abroad are not all true. I always tell my friends that these perception of us Filipinos that life in the West is better, is like a SCAM for above middle income Filipinos. If you can afford for health insurance in Philippines, life is better in Philippines. If you have planned ahead for the education plan of your children or if you are just okay to send your kid in our state university, then life is better in Philippines.
A lot of countries that we always perceive to be better than PH, maybe have high standard of living, but low quality of life. Those "Happiest Country Status" is bs when you see their depression and suicide problems.. also when you see their debt problems.
Anyway, working abroad or migrating abroad is now part of our National Identity and is already so integrated within our economy. Based on Philippine history, we have been migrating or working abroad even 400 years back. But then, the global economic crisis that hit us in the 70's fueled that culture within us. For our government economic experts perspective, this overseas Filipino scheme has been beneficial, even in world crisis. It protects us from external shocks. So of course, the government will send more Filipinos abroad. The downside of that is we deprive our own development, as a country, as there is a brain drain. But even if Philippines will reach Singapore level, I do not think the government will stop sending people abroad, as it has become our strength as a country and we are known for it.

Nice content…most people are happy with their selves and want more economical opportunities. However, even if you gain economically, you might find that this is not your biggest gain from moving to a country like the US. There may be other, more important reasons for moving that will be far more important to your future self.
I asked my wife what the biggest thing she gained from moving to the US. She said that America made her pragmatic. That is to think for oneself and critically about what really matters and works, rather than anyone else’s theories or formulas. That is, it taught her to think in such a different way that it opened so many doors and improved her whole life.
So, you might think you need to move for a better life, but that better life might come to you from what you learn rather than all of the resources of the country that you are moving to. If you pick winners to hang out with, of course, the things that made them winners will become part of you as well. Of course, you can find winners or losers anywhere. You can find this in the Philippines as well, I’m sure (without moving).

Filipinas leave for the same reason my ancestors left Europe. They were well educated but they were among the regular class without wealth land and privilege. They immigrated to America to make a better life for themselves which they did by hard work.
@@Rubeauti you're welcome my sister-in-law is from Manila. She's a wonderful woman a devout Roman Catholic like my family she is the head tech supervisor for large coal mining company . She has done very well for yourself and she's very hard-working organized loving and honest a real quality person. We told my brother if he ever gets on the wrong side of her will send him back to the Philippines and keep her.
I live in Canada and not sure what the big deal is, i live near Montreal, there are jobs, but the crime rate is up big time, some parts of Montreal get regular shootings, its that insane, the cost of life is insane too, Canada is not a dream land believe me.
The cost of renting an apartment as gone up and lots of people who rent cannot retire at 65 because the pension does not cover the cost of many things. So in other words life here is not easy as everyone thinks, before i moved back with my mother to take care of her i had a condo and i live pay to pay which barely covered my expenses and i had a relatively good salary. Theses are the reality of living here in Canada sadly. Also the medical system is going down the drain fast...... i been waiting for a family doctor for 4 years i will have to go to a private clinic and pay $$$$ to get a check up because i turned 50 this summer.
When i retire i am leaving here and never looking back.

The bills here in Europe are very high take example me i'm single and I have around 80.000peso's expenses a month while I maybe make 90.500peso's a month we are the modern standard of your country we can't really safe up anything anymore so it's not all sunshine and rainbows

Germany right now is planning to make immigration much easier soon. We urgently need qualified people here, especially in the health and care sector, but also in many crafts like builders, roofers, carpenters, electricians, etc. However, if someone wants to take this opportunity, make sure that you plan ahead long term and learn German for at least a year before you look for a job in Germany. Without any German language skills it is near impossible to find a job here, unless you are a digital nomad or highly skilled in IT related jobs. Best address in the Philippines to learn German is the Goethe Institute in Makati City, which is a German government funded institution. You can read about that institute on Wikipedia.
The new immigration plan is, that an immigrant needs to fulfill three of the following four criteria:
finished vocational or academic education,
minimum of three years job experience,
German language skills,
under 35 years old.
There will be a yearly contingent for immigrants, though. If your language skills are good enough, you even can apply for vocational training here. The details are not finished yet, but to me it looks like it soon gets much easier for Philippines to migrate to Germany then it is now. There are already more than 20,000 Filipinos here (and it is supposed that double that number are living as illegal aliens here), and they generally have a good reputation here as hard-working, friendly and peaceful neighbors or co-workers.
