It depends on where you go. Bigger cities are, as it is EVERYWHERE, more expensive than the provinces or smaller cities. I've lived in Cebu, Baguio, and Malaybalay (Mindanao). Cebu was most expensive, Baguio was cheaper, and in some cases REALLY cheap (like strawberries), and Malaybalay was the cheapest of them all. So, it's true it CAN be more expensive, but it's also true that where you are, where you shop, and HOW you shop makes a difference. I always had my wife do the shopping, and it would be cheaper than if I did the shopping, due to the skin tax you often (not always) encounter. I was mostly treated well in the Philippines. I never had any problems in Malaybalay (except for a lot of staring and the skin tax). I also had so many people be nice and kind to me in Baguio. I love Baguio so much... the people there were ALL so nice. I never had one bad experience in over 6 months living there. Cebu was the worst place, as I'd had several problems like your friend with the court to play sports. I think that part of the reason why service in stores is so slow is because that's the way it is all over the country. They don't have to improve their service because no other stores will serve the customers any faster. So the customer doesn't have a choice but to wait. Migrated to Australia from Cebu City Philippines August 18, 1980. At that time, Singapore was no different from the Philippines ... a 3rd world nation. Now, Singapore is an economic superpower. But the Philippines is still a gutter. What happened? Where did the OFW periodic remittances go? CHARITY IS INJURIOUS IF IT DOESN'T HELP THE RECIPIENT FROM BECOMING INDEPENDENT OF IT. (Rockefeller) 😉
I’ve worked ever since I left school 45 years ago. I want to retire in your country so if everything runs slow that’s good. I want my life to slowdown and just relax. If the worst thing is standing in a shopping line for hours. I’ll be fine ❤
It's MUCH worse than just standing in a slow line. How about absolute corruption, paying 8K PHP instead of 3K PHP at a government agency. They WILL do it, it is not if, it is when. Massive red tape at every corner, but you WILL be robbed, I was even in a vehicle ROBBED BY THE POLICE outside of Manila in February 2020. Facts matter, OPEN YOUR EYES and you will see and GOD help you if you need a hospital as it is easy to die there.
11:13 I can well believe this; many Filipinos actually don't like foreigners, especially male Filipinos (and for the easily triggered Filipinos who read a comment and then reply ''not all are like that'', *pay attention to the word MANY,* which is not ALL.. obviously); the way foreigners are so frequently looked at as targets to be ripped off says a lot, that you are not truly, sincerely ''liked'' but stored up for financial disrespect at every opportunity. And well-noted, when Filipinos are in the UK or US or Australia or France, eg, people do not treat them like this. And being poorer is no excuse. As a well-travelled guy, Monte Negro was considered poor, take away tourism for a summer and they would feel it quite hard, but the people were nice, never tried to mistreat you or rip you off; in Manila\Makati it was almost impossible to take a taxi without being told *''300 pesos on top''* by a bunch of greedy and dishonest drivers. If you insist on the fare-meter they kick you out. Or, they agree the cost of fare with the Apartment guards who know how much a journey should cost, you get in, but the moment the taxi drivers turns the corner they turn around all sleazy like: "it will be 300 php on top, OK?" You disagree, the correct fare has been established. He replies: ''Ah.. well you have to find another taxi''. It was the same story with nearly every single taxi driver. Such disrespect tells you clearly: many of the Filipino people don't like you\us. Because first and foremost that is what they are: Filipinos, regardless of their job. I live in Norway, and this stuff would never happen here to foreigners.
Metro Manila Taxi drivers are extremely greedy. I was last there in 2015-2016 I arrived at MNL Airport on December 15, 2015 it was raining and a Typhoon 🌀 was already moved away from Manila area. After checking in at the customs counter and gathering my luggage I met my Filipina ex-girlfriend, we found a Taxi Van to take us to my hotel in Makati City which is less than 10 kilometers away. The Taxi driver looked at my ex-gf and told her in Tagalog the fare would be 3500 pesos. I immediately told him that I already know how much the fare should be and I told my ex-gf lets go find another Taxi. The taxi driver was shocked and started to lower his rate to 2000 pesos and he was saying that because of the Typhoon and Christmas season that was why the rate is so high. I told my ex-gf to tell the driver I am not going to pay that amount. So we got out of the Van and the driver started to lower his rate again this time it was 1200 pesos. It was after 10 PM and I was tired, so I reluctantly agreed to his rate only because it was bad rainy weather and I just wanted to get to my hotel room. Well the next day I was talking with a very helpful Filipina hotel desk clerk and I told her about how much the Taxi driver had charged me to come from the Airport to my hotel, she said sir you should never pay more than 400 pesos on average. That my friends is a true story and living testimony to the corrupt greedy Taxi drivers in the Metro Manila area! 🙄
@@DarkKhagan By what I wrote above I know exactly what you mean. But in your case - like WoW! 😮 - that was such a greedy price to ask in the first place. Imagine, from Manila, if the driver is not being greedy, you can get to travel all the way to Tagaytay for 2500 (the driver would even offer to drive you back since no taxi service exists in Tagaytay), but the real price is about 1000php, and that my friend is quite a distance (nearly 70 miles - 1hr 30mins). But in your case, from Ninoy international airport to the Makati, asking you for 3500pesos just leaves me speechless. I noted how greedy and corrupt they are from the first time I travelled there. One thing though, the only city I know of where this sort of stuff has been stamped out is Davao; every taxi driver I came across used his meter. I think the government got tired of the complaints and tried to do something about it. Also, Duterte is from Davao.. and it was said that this is one of the reasons it was so thoroughly stamped out there. But in Manila it still happens, with many corrupt taxi drivers always trying to find a way to cheat tourists, adding all sorts of counting devices to their meter to make it clock a higher fare. If caught the consequences are severe, but still this form of widespread corruption continues in Manila. I've decided never to return to that place, and so many prostitutes :\ I got tired of dodging all that - another thing you don't get so blatantly on the streets of Davao; not a single prostitute approached me there. Have a great day.

It's not so much "the COST of things", it's about LIFESTYLE". Many Westerners are heavy CONSUMERS. The key to Prosperity for a Westerner in the Philippines is to (live like a local) !!!!!
"The lifestyle" you mean listening to constant noise, smelling burning rubbish and eating shit semi salmonella food? Yeah gotta be happy with that while waiting for the next disaster or brownout. Just admit it..its the only place you can get a chic and people call you sir.
I agree with some other commenters... Westerners who are "visitors" in your country need to adjust their westerner mindset. Be patient, be respectful, if they have an "entitled" attitude, drop it. Courtesy, kindness, and a smile with a respectful attitude will go a long way, and get you much more anywhere! 🙂
@@matthewswitzner1046 Well, it makes sense if you want western food in a foreign land, it will cost more... From what I have experienced, you can eat cheaper, and healthier if you stay away from fast food except on occasion here and there...

Whenever I talk to my Filipina girlfriend she's always telling me this is expensive and that's expensive. Well, she says that because a lot of Filipinos who have jobs don't make a lot of money so I understand what she means. If you don't have a job and you don't make a lot of money I can understand why things are considered expensive to the local population.
Housing is like 1/10th the cost there that it is where i live ... But food is just as expensive because the Philippines has to import most of it. Its pretty easy to tell what is more expensive there by simply looking at what needs to be imported. @Rubeauti Your definitely right about the pollution. I still cant wait to be back there soon though 💜
I was just in Cebu for one month, my fifth visit to Cebu. Yes she is very special! Anyway so covid is going on and we're going to use the condo towers gym. But the number of people is limited to the small gym and you must schedule on the appointment book kept at the guards desk. When the book is full already, it's just no problem for me. I love to adapt and find another way. In this case, the two condominium towers are 14 stories. Solution: Run the stairs! After each up and down do a little recovery loop around the drive-thru gate lobby area, and then back up you go! It's really better than the gym because the view improves with each flight of stairs 😄😄 And you know the only people running those stairs were me and my girlfriend. So with one simple decision we showed that we are resilient, and we were the only ones running those stairs 😂😂 Anytime the gym was already booked, it was time to run the stairs! Adopt and overcome. Change the tack of your sailboat and find fresh wind.

I tipped a fuel station attendant P800 and he called his girlfriend and planned a night out. I love the Philippines and the people there. I love being a kind hearted man.
Bad thing about being kind hearted there is that they will use you untill you have nothing left an then they will turn on you and hate you because you have no money left, be careful because those same people you helped will NOT help you when you have nothing

After watching hundreds, if not thousands, of videos now, one thing I've noticed is the difference in people's behaviors towards Filipino vloggers and foreigners. Most people turn away from the camera and don't interact with a Filipino vlogger, but they all jump in front of the camera and talk to foreigners. I think that would be an interesting video to see, you go to a market and vlog and see how the vendors interact with you, do they turn away from the camera or not talk to you, then a bit later have a foreigner go to the same place vlogging and see how they react.
Thinking again about the basketball court at the con-do-mi-ni-um... That really is an analogy for social issues created by social structure. I recommend you look for interviews of René Girard talking about negative mimetics.

Hello Rubeati very interesting , first thing I have to say I love your country and the people , I think the people that visit and think its expensive are staying in the 4 and 5 star hotels they are eating in the high end restaurants they are coming from the the US .Canada and parts in Europe and they want the same as they have there. I have travelled your country from Manila to Davao I have been to all the main Islands I have seen a lot of your country and I would 100% recommend it . There are lots of beautiful places to stay and eat at a very affordable price but you have to do your research first. I agree some places are noisy traffic , dogs barking , roosters and the one I find the worst is the karaoke , but ear plugs work good :) I live in Canada ( I am not Canadian I am from the UK ) if you were staying in my home a very nice townhouse you would hear traffic all the time in the back yard as you know you get used to it. I am not sure where you were in France but I have never found France cheap , I go back to Europe every year England , Ireland and Spain and I can't believe how the cost has gone up so much. Well its been 2+ years since I was in Asia because of covid but I hope to be back travelling later this year. And I tell them I'm glad not to live there. Because like you I also know the truth about how things are there. I've never had a desire to go there because it's so much easier where I'm already at. My happiness in within. It doesn't come from the outside. It all starts at home. Within oneself.
Enjoy your day. And keep telling the truth.
I totally agree with you..I did 7 years here but now I'm over it..it really will never change..its the people that have to change and they won't.

Checking in from Tampa, FL Great video
"It's more 'fun' in the Fee-lippines" 🤣
Metro Manila Taxi drivers are extremely greedy. I was last there in 2015-2016
I arrived at MNL Airport on December 15, 2015 it was raining and a Typhoon 🌀 was already moved away from Manila area.
Sounds like ny to me @DarkKhagan
Thank you so much for useful information. I live in U.K. I have planing to move Philippines. I have to rethink about my decision.

Leviticus 19:33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
I just subscribed to your channel I've watched some of your streams periodically over the last few months but I finally went ahead and decided to subscribe. But wow I was planning on returning in the Philippines cuz I've been there multiple times while I was in the military and never had a problem there being a black man I never was never felt any racism there or anything like that but you seriously got me thinking about going to Thailand instead of Philippines I mean my plan was to come to the Philippines but you after listening to a few of your streams wow I'm kind of tossing it up maybe going to Pattaya Beach instead.
It's not so much "the COST of things", it's about LIFESTYLE". Many Westerners are heavy CONSUMERS.
The key to Prosperity for a Westerner in the Philippines is to (live like a local) !!!!!
Right it’s the lifestyle that counts
What if she's a mahjongera?????
😂😁😄😄😅😀😀
"The lifestyle" you mean listening to constant noise, smelling burning rubbish and eating shit semi salmonella food? Yeah gotta be happy with that while waiting for the next disaster or brownout. Just admit it..its the only place you can get a chic and people call you sir.
I agree with some other commenters... Westerners who are "visitors" in your country need to adjust their westerner mindset. Be patient, be respectful, if they have an "entitled" attitude, drop it. Courtesy, kindness, and a smile with a respectful attitude will go a long way, and get you much more anywhere! 🙂
Fast food is $20 here
@@matthewswitzner1046 Well, it makes sense if you want western food in a foreign land, it will cost more... From what I have experienced, you can eat cheaper, and healthier if you stay away from fast food except on occasion here and there...
yes, wish the reciprocal was also true. too many folks leaving the sinking ships that are their countries only to destroy the dwindling freedoms that a few states still enjoy.
@@JT-cf5ol That has happened in the US with many states becoming 'Californicated' when people get fed up in Cali yet move to another state and want it to be like home. Oregon and Washington for example. Now they go over seas and want things their way.
You know, westerners could say the same thing of easterners tourist these day. But you know what is more intelligent? Stop generalising and stereotyping other people.

@@Rubeauti hope your UA-cam channel is a success
It's really better than the gym because the view improves with each flight of stairs 😄😄
And you know the only people running those stairs were me and my girlfriend. So with one simple decision we showed that we are resilient, and we were the only ones running those stairs 😂😂
Anytime the gym was already booked, it was time to run the stairs!

@@Rubeauti yes. Maybe the only 'comfort' here is that prices in Europe have been skyrocketting too
After watching hundreds, if not thousands, of videos now, one thing I've noticed is the difference in people's behaviors towards Filipino vloggers and foreigners.

Keep up the great work love your St walks I hear that Manila Bay is all cleaned up maybe you could do a tour :) Thanks take care .
