This was my first irish whiskey. It was recommended by a friend. We don't talk much anymore
No friend would ever recommend Proper 12
Lol
Please try Tullamore Dew. You'll find it literally anywhere that will stock Proper Twelve and you'll have a dramatically happier drinking experience.
@isc9114 That's next on my list. I've had several great Irish whiskeys since Proper 12. That and the Spots are next.
I mean…. It’s a cheap whisky, what did you expect?
I wasn't aware that you guys were reviewing gasoline now. My bathroom drain was plugged last week and I used a bottle of this to clean it out. It was cheaper than the drain cleaner.
Drano is like 10$. Still cheaper than a plumber.
I see bottles on clearance for $9 now lol
Great content as always, guys. This was a very civil way to review a thing neither of you like. I believe the 1st video was summed up with a quote of, "I've had many bad whiskey, and this is one of them." 😅
really was a very solid line
Here comes the age again where I can watch reviews of whiskyes which I can actually get? Not some niche whisky which you can only get in a small American town I've never heard of? Yaaaaaaaaaaay perfect time to be back, hope you guys make me fall in love with whisky again
Plus, because of the backlog, it was only available for 3 days 18 months ago in that small town.
My friends and I drink proper12 as shots. Im the more avid whisky drinker in the group and my friends are mostly beer drinkers. Proper 12 is so sweet focused and mild on the deep notes. It is very approachable for people who do not drink whisky and very easy to drink.
As a long time watcher I'm loving of the new format that gets back to reviewing available whiskeys. But wait, when did the channel go R rated?! Daniel's F-bombs are going off! Is Brianna in charge of editing? As someone who drops an F-bomb in every sentence, I approve.
*ahem*
Fuck. That is all.
I miss the cork pop censor
🍾
I never understood the censorship, really. It's a channel for people who are probably all at least 21, or 18 outside of the US
And shit got censored out later. What’s going on? Let us hear those curse words! What goes better with whiskey?
Love seeing that realisation of "I've been doing it wrong the whole time and the correct alternative is even much easier to do" 😀
I bought a Proper 12 a couple weeks ago so I could use it to make a couple High Balls and try out something new. I'm a bourbon or wet martini guy normally if I have hard liquor. The over simplified flavor of the Proper 12 make it better for a nice drink on the rocks with Ginger Ale or Club Soda in it. Neat or on the rocks is pretty bitter. It does have a slightly more desirable taste on the rocks, but this whisky is a mixer, I think.
Yeahh, it needs to be mixed. Ngl, I drink whiskey, but this is a bit hard to drink because of the strength, lol. I drank it cuz I could afford it and drink hard.
@cafenightster4548 Strength like ABV or strength of flavor?
@@Sniperboy5551 abv
Only got to try a sip straight from the bottle this summer, just 1 sip, but it was pleasant. Sadly I don't have alot of exposure to Irish whiskey to compare it to. Love the stories today, thx guys.
I had a sip and it was DISGUSTING....
Whip In! I haven’t thought about that place in ages. I lived three blocks from there. I was so confused the first time I went in there. I used to call it the ADHD market because I assumed the owner kept getting distracted and couldn’t settle on a theme.
Irish apple is definitely good for 23$ compared to regular p12 which i could do without for sure. Irish apple compared to crown apple is great for the price difference too!
7:37 Kelly’s Irish Pub at Oltorf and S 1st. Great whisk(e)y selection and solid vibe.
My palate was either underdeveloped or maybe I got a good bottle of the old Proper 12 cause I didn't mind Proper 12. Would I buy another bottle? I'd rather buy any of the other Irish budget bottles.
Regular Bushmills is a light, but good tasting drink. For me, it's a good daily driver, either on the rocks or with a splash of ginger ale. I do try them all neat, first- and I liked the taste and smoothness. I'd been led to believe Bushmills was very harsh and burny, and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't.
Proper 12 does mix well with ginger ale. The flavors go together well. It was a decent starter, and led me to try others- which I like even more. I had no idea it was a celebrity alcohol. It was just one of two varieties in flask size, and the other was significantly more expensive.
Got it today as a gift. It's not bad. Wouldn't buy it myself but it's not bad.
It could be worse
It's just a tool. Y'all might judge it in context, judge it for what it is.
Say you crack a fresh bottle of this stuff, here's how this is supposed to work - 8 hours later it is supposed to be empty, broken out behind a dumpster somewhere, and somebody needs a black eye. Preferably that somebody left a few teeth in a parking lot, too.
As a tool to that end, if you want to hit that nail smack on the head, P12 is a hammer.
😂 shite
At 40% it’s a rubber mallet at best, not a hammer. 😂
I'm going to admit something here. I have bought 2 bottles of Proper 12, and I kind of liked them. Not the "oh man, this is good for the price" kind of like, but just "It's not too bad" kind of like.
I didn't realize until recently that this was a Conor McGregor thing... had I known that, I would have probably not bought it... :)
Thanks for the great videos! Cheers!
@Whiskey Vault you mentioned Powers John’s Lane, there’s a Cask Strength Version coming Next month!
The reason proper 12 sold like hot cakes is not because its good. Purely because of the muppet behind it.
Id imagine a huge amount of the people who did buy it werent even whisky drinkers.
The original recipe was 5% cheap Bushmills. I think the new recipe is all Great Northern, I could be wrong. McGregor doesn’t own any of Proper 12 anymore but he’s still a paid spokesperson. They are NOT partnered with Bushmills. It’s bottled there. Trust me, Bushmills wants nothing to do with it.
I haven’t tried the new version. The first version was like drinking vanilla from a metal can. There are so many better bottles of Irish Whiskey for the price.
I think most people who know Irish Whiskey, want nothing to do with "Proper 12" either. Hell, I take "Paddy" over that swill, any day.
@@DoverPipes Hey man, dont knock my Paddy's.... I would rank it above Bushmills, if price were considered. Proper 12 might as well be drain cleaner for as much as I care to taste it.
@@jong2359 Not knocking Paddy, just pointing out the price is less than "Proper Swill" and tastes better.
Bushmills was my go to. Always thought it was better than Jameson.
YES!! I'll never buy this haha, but totally wanted them to see the difference
Powers John's Lane is still difficult to get in Georgetown, TX. I have to go to Total Wine Lakeline to get it. It is my favorite Single Pot Still Irish now. I prefer it to Redbreast and the Spots.
IDL was out of stock for the longest time. It’s just lately being restocked. There is a Cask Strength Version coming but so far it’s only an Irish release.
Bought it heavily discounted and wished I had just picked up standard Jameson or bushmills instead.
Since I saw that you were reviewing Proper Twelve, I picked up two airplane minis at the liquor store while I was buying some Bushmills Prohibition, just so I could taste with you and not be committed to an entire bottle of PT. I still have one mini left and it will probably sit on the shelf for a long time.
I did the same, but only bought 1. I poured it out. 😂
You like that Bushmills?
Proper 12 is a Jameson alternative. It's for quick shots or a mixer at a decent price
Nothing wrong with this.
Yeah, that's exactly what I was getting at with the left-spin throw. Hand turning to the left, imparting left spin. Glad I could be of use in the Wastepaper Basket Ball. 😄
Thanks for this.
They're putting it in clearance in the supermarket, so I was wondering about getting my dad some for Christmas.
I'll probably stick with Jameson's or Bushmills.
Will add my hat into the ring for only drinking Proper 12 on the rocks. It's my, "I don't want to drink my "good" stuff tonight" choice. Love it though. Will always have a bottle on hand.
Love watching these on my lunch breaks
Yeah i drink Proper twelve neat regularly lol. And i 100% understand everything is personal preference. The new proper twelve is aged 4 years instead of 3 which is what is first batches were aged. That extra year is noticeable to me. I definitely hope they are working on a P12 8 year and on. Such a simple whiskey that I believe with more years would be amazing
Thanks for reviewing the new release. I have a strange relationship with this. My in-laws love this, and when drinking with them, I enjoy it too. However, when back home, I do not purchase this. Like ever. Cheers!
Your story for Proper 12 is better than Proper 12's story for Proper 12.
I like Proper Twelve neat. Not a bad pour over all.
Certainly missing a trick not doing Proper Twelve Cask Strength... "Whiskey with Extra Punch"
"So good it'll punch you right in the face like an innocent old man sitting on a barstool"
@@kevina.7234 haha it's not the most catchy punchline 😂
Proper 12 Cask Stength: Go 5 rounds and leave £u€k3d up
I bet cask strength delivers a glassier metallic vanilla. Yech. 😣
@@trentzimmermann2660 certainly being carried out that night 🤣
I got a bit spoiled tasting local whiskeys while in Ireland. Was the first time i really enjoyed whiskey.
Now back at the states and looking for a mid priced whiskey that i might actually enjoy sipping with friends this coming weekend.
Any suggestions?
Someone suggested Tullamore Dew or Bulleit Rye, should i be listening to this person?😂
Personally, Bulliet yes, can't comment on Tullamore, if someone says Four Roses they want to do harm to you.
This is a great whiskey for beginners who don’t like whiskey. Jack and crown have a strong whiskey taste that’s very distinct but this ones is very subtle. It’s spicy on the tongue and smooth going down. Pretty tasty without mixers
But not a favorite drink by any means
Is the candy apple note potentially related to the proper 12 Irish apple? Not saying they put a little apple flavoring in it but they definitely did.
I'm not gonna run out and get a bottle of Proper Twelve, but I am ECSTATIC that Daniel may have found the secret to the trash can throw 🤘
Its a real toss up between Proper Twelve and Dead Rabbit for me lately. Bushmills and Jamison has really become the Jack Daniels of Irish whiskies in my opinion. Proper Twelve is one of my top daily sippers.
I accidentally stumbled into Turnstile Coffee in August. I was working so I just got coffee. I stared at that whiskey wall longingly and failed at flirting with the barmaid.
I’m so relieved that Daniel finally learned how to throw a wad of paper! 3 out of 5 wouldn’t change a thing
it is kat pizz the best way to use it is to defrost your windshield in winter
I've always believed that Proper 12 should own their connection with Conor McGregor and adopt the slogan "Get Fightin' Drunk".
A few months ago our local Irish pub had Proper 12 for the "whiskey of the month" and like $5 a poor. So we tried and was pleasantly surprised. I have bought it a few times as a nightly whiskey. I put it at around Jameson 12, but where I'm at it's less $ so for the price point, it's a pretty decent whiskey.
Yeah, Turnstile has a surprisingly good beer and whiskey selection. The food is good, but it's a touch overpriced imo. Also would love to see a taste review of Powers Rye.
While you're on Irish whiskey, how about a comparison of standard Bushmills and Bushmills "prohibition style?"
Who doesn’t have a soft spot in their heart for “metallic vanilla” I ask you? 🥴
3:25 Apparently you need to put a sign on the door that says “Do NOT Enter We’re F’ing Recording Videos.”
I love Devils Sister Green Apple
Out of stock everywhere
Tried Proper 12
Smells awesome
Not as sweet as Devils sister but good 2nd
Lmao how did two effs make it in but shickles got bleeped
So... I didn't mis-hear that...
You too have been up in your whiskey tower for way too long if you are disagreeing about whether most people shoot or on the rocks Proper 12. At least 3/4 of it is being mixed with mountain dew.
For mainstream Irish Whiskey, Bushmills is my go-to.
The fact that this has "TWELVE" in the name is quite deceptive; especially for the layperson this is marketed to. 99% of this stuff will be consumed in shot form, so what's the point? ✌️
It’s clearly meant to imply age. Ireland was been talking about rules against adding a number on the label outside of age, not sure it ever went anywhere
@@4LeafWhiskey no it isn't, it's the region of Dublin where McGregor grew up; Dublin 12
I'd love to see a review of Powers Three Swallow
Good on ice, I think Chui called it.
If you're getting into that level of detail, time to also compare Bushmills standard to Bushmills Red Bush.
I've loved Bushmills white label neat since I first tried it. I think Jamesons is better in coffee. Haven't tried Proper 12 mostly because of my disdain for Connor. I suppose I should at this point. Thanks.
Order 1 shot at the bar. Its so bad it's hard to give away a full bottle of the garbage
I'm still waiting for a Glenlivet 12 "Illicit Still" review.
McGregor was bought out, but the uproar created by that led Proximo Spirits to sell him back or grant him back shares.
Proper 12 is a fine mixer, but that's about it.
What are your top 5 Irish whiskeys for under 60 dollars?
Powers Three Swallows, Powers Rye, Bushmills Black Bush, Glendalough Double Barrel, West Cork Barrel Proof
There is a lot of good Irish Whiskey under $50
@@4LeafWhiskeyThanks!
Writer's Tears, Powers Gold Label, Tullamore, Slane, Red Bush
Just buy Bourbon.
Need to get a go pro on the trash can for some Picture in Picture every time Daniel bricks a shot.
Very pleasant, nice to have!
Are y’all sure people didn’t mean the green apple version of proper 12 as the new version?
It's shiesty whiskey, let's just cut to the chase.
I don't know if you guys have had the "New" willet pot still, but I hear its similar to the old like this, slight variences.
Red breast 12 is my jam.
Always a classic 👍
Its cs blend with les jamersons grain and more malt in it
While I do like seeing the reviews of very available things, I do miss Rare Whiskey Fridays, including the long spiel explaining it.
As someone who enjoys Proper Twelve, I have to say I think Bushmills has a very unpleasant musty funk to it, whereas PT is very clean and smooth. I'll have to try the "new" one.
You lose your vote becouse you regularly drink propper 12
P12 has more grain in the blend, Bushmills has more malt.
Have you tried Powers Gold Label? It’s around the same price.
Love the new format
I'm neat with the 12 and it pushes my buttons. I must be cautious....
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
TGIRWF... but P12?
However if it sucks it sucks regardless of who is backing it. Will this hold up to a medium brand? Or is this just a hyped brand that is gouging people who are into MMA? Just saying. I'm sure the regular Jameson is quite a bit better.
Haven't tried the "new" version, but I wasn't a fan of the original. It might be fine at a lower price point, but if I'm paying basically the same price as Jameson I'm just going to drink Jameson.
I actually do enjoy Proper Twelve neat, and it's one of my go-to's to introduce non-whiskey drinkers to drinking neat whiskey. It's simple, sweet, and easy to pick out specific flavors. Not exciting, but it serves a purpose.
Try it now 🤢
The value of glencairns in that vault might rival some of the more expensive bottles on the shelves lol those bastards are expensive.
I’ve picked this up in mickeys a few times, just as something that would fit in a pocket for various events, and it seemed like the quality varied wildly. Couple bottles were good, couple OK and one terrible.
Question: Why does the waste basket cam not exist?
The fact you even talked about it rather than just smelling it once and saying shit
ive had wiskeys and scotches the best and i drink proper12 because its on the shelf, its cheeper than jameson and i like its approachable flavor. sue me nerd
Not the worst whiskey. Not the best. You get what you pay for. But honestly perfectly drinkable
Up there with the worst I have had for the price, only bottle of whiskey that has outlived several others over the last few months
These guys are misunderstanding the reason it sold so well, it's nothing to do with taste.
Also, WHEN is REX going for his Somm test?
Debatedly...he may have the palate, skills + vocabulary now for such an arduous test 🤔 😂😜
What do you call "Texas Indian" food? Tewali?
I have noticed that Wild Turkey has an improved caramel sweetness that i previously only got from Buffalo Trace products. Am i imagining things? Anyone else noticed?
I did actually notice the same, a bit of an improvement in the traditional 101 bottle. Its like an almost caramel, slightly butterscotch direction for me - and I never noticed it like that before. Made me start buying their products again, to be honest.
When I reviewed The Proper Twelve (original), I gave it 2/100. I utterly hated it. Dunno if I’m ready to give it a second chance.
I got a nip (airplane bottle) of Proper Twelve Apple. Took one sip and tossed the rest. Disgusting.
For the amount of times Daniel has missed the shot to the garbage can...... I DEMAND REX MONTH!!!!! THE MOOCH CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE CONTAINED OR IGNORED!!!!!!! I DEMAND SATISFACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Day 36 of asking for a Magnificent Bastard Trash Can Shot Cam!
Powers is a tasty little budget bottle
The embarrassing thing for me being from county Antrim is Bush Mills was involved in this proper 12 disaster. It may have sold well but it is not a good whiskey.
I'm Irish, I love trying different whiskeys, I will never try proper twelve.
I bought a bottle when I left work when the pandemic kicked off back in March of 2020. I didn't give a shit about it. I'd rather just stick with Jameson.
I just bought one only because its was $2 cheaper than Jameson. Pretty similar but definitely less flavor.
8:51 you censor THAT after allowing 2 F-bombs just minutes ago?? 🤷♂️😂
How do you tell which is the new and which is the old?
I have no idea :-)
Hi mbs
Fun vid
