Peter Gabriel needs to be one of the next recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award for the span of his career and what he has done for the music industry.
Gabriel is responsible for some of the most epic pop hits ever, but I've always felt he was an unlikely pop star -- in the era of visual presentation he is just the most awkward person. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it. A lot of people disagree with me but like you I call it as I see it.
@@joethelion6016 18 million albums sold WITHOUT commercialism backing him up. Pete has NEVER been a mainstream artist. Maybe underrated was the wrong word. More like under-promoted.
man can mooooooove 😍😍 I also love how this song has a super dark, sinister sound to it while simultaneously being a fun song to groove to. Like if jealousy as an emotion could be turned into an 80s dance bop, it would be this. Well played Mr. Gabriel 😉
Wow, I love this performance. I am glad I stumbled upon this. Very energetic performance. I also love Big Time, Sledgehammer and Steam. His music videos are superb!
Well, Genesis kinda sounded like that when Gabriel left. Mama has a similar vibe to Shock the Monkey. Then Gabriel went completely world music while Genesis went full on pop.
@Dave Hughes agreed. When I listen to this song I can hear the genesis in the song. I often wonder how it would have sounded if Peter brought this song into the studio with genesis

Absolutely he has contributed too many years of my entertainment I enjoy watching his video frying back in the day. My number one pick is digging in the dirt such a psychedelic video.
A Conspiracy of Hope for Amnesty International, Giants Stadium in NJ, USA. 1986. David Rhodes Guitar Manu Katche drums, Pino Palladino Bass. Not sure who played keyboards. If you look carefully you can see a dot toward the very back of the field level. That dot would be a much younger version of me.
I wish. I was looking for just that myself. I saw him in a small venue in 1982 and he performed this song by hanging and swinging on bars! It was the best concert ever!
Special concert 1988, I believe. From what I found comparing videos and pictures of his clothing this looks to be Giants Stadium Meadowlands New Jersey Amnesty International. Peter is 70 now. He was in his late 30s in this video.

This man is a Genius!...
Ditto
Mr. Gabriel is a musical genius
how can one person sound so hot, yet dance so goofy? gotta love Peter.
You mean, as opposed to just standing there on stage not moving at all?

Bloody Peter Gabriel. Looks gorgeous, sings, writes, dances, plays, and has a big brain. Gad, what a man! :)
Hands down the most commercially underrated front-man in the history of Rock Music. His stage presence and moves rivaled ANYONE in his hey day.
Behave.

I've always loved Peter's energy and unique dance moves in this song, driven by Manu's thundering drums!
Jerry's drumming was way more thunderous on the LP. Manu Katché is more tight sounding.

This guy! He was born for the stage. He’s just💓💓💓💓💓💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
This is how I think Genesis would have sounded in the 80s had Peter never left the band. Great tune.
Best thing had happened to Genesis... Really

Handsome.
Very special, but extremely appreciated song. And rightfully so, too. I love his lyrics and of course his voice is great too.
Peter's voice is one-of-a-kind.
Has to be a natural high to be able to play in front of that many people. As a drummer, I just love this song!
Man, I LOVE this song from Peter Gabriel's fourth album "Security". The musical style of his material is just experimental.
This is just one of my few of his all time favourites that Peter created & achieved.
Era il leader dei genesis per me è un artista eccezionale. Grande peter sei bravissimo. Grazie di esistere. Scaccini Andrea
A volte mi domando cosa sarebbe successo se avesse continuato con i genesis
Forse non avremmo mai avuto shock the monkey

I don't see Tony Levin. This is an old video. He may have been on tour with Crimson back then.
Does anyone know if the live version of this song where he hangs from his legs is on UA-cam or somewhere else online?

when’s this? and where’s tony levin?!
Plenty of Peter Gabriel's songs are better, deeper, etc when performed live. This is one that never captures what the studio version captured.

But who is that playing bass?
So...
Where can I get that shirt? !?!?!?!
Any thrift store.
kind of a big crowd there
I can tell he's running out of breath there. I can't imagine it being easy to be jumping and running around and also singing live.
Is that Phil Lynott on bass?!
David Urrutia i don’t think so
No, is Larry Klein (Mercy Street)...
Love this song but PG sounds lost without his overdubs. His vocals can't withstand all the jumping and dancing.
THIS IS HOW I WANT TO REMEMBER HIM BEAUTIFUL BRILLIANT AMAZING NOT FAT BALD AND UGLY
I hope you'll age well...
Yo thats rude as fuck...Nobody can control how they age, you should be happy he's still alive and writing music
