- We take a look at wave 2 of the vintage TMNT toylike from 1989 and I give you my opinions and scattered memories and rambles attached to each figure. Apologies in advance for the poor audio in my on-screen segments in this video (will only be for this one. Was having mic issues) and I totally didn't screw up the title card somehow and totally won't have to re-upload it with it fixed at some point...

"Takes half an hour to get the belts on for Genghis and Ace Duck" 🤣🤣. Cool video mate
Man I'm so happy to have found this channel. Enormous fan of this toyline and your amazing stories take me back to when I was kid growing up with the 2003 series figures (and I suppose I did also collect this line via flea markets and such ;)
Thank you! That's awesome. I've always had interest in going back and finally collecting some of the 2003 line, but that line is getting very expensive now
freaking Krang man
Nice reference
He was just here
I just recently, a little before covid that I became a collector. So, NECA TMNT I'm all about. I have a few figs from the early 90's TMNT. I open them too and let my nephews play with them. I can only imagine if I had these as a kid.
That's awesome. I always love hearing that people still get into TMNT collecting even now. Neca has been putting out a ton of TMNT stuff recently, so it's a great time to be a collector
@@brendansrambles9464 Collecting is def fun right now. I just don't like hunting and see these crazy scalpers take so many boxes. Thankfully I've been an online shark and ready to buy, buy, buy.
@@pancakesarealwaysbetter That's good. Yeah, finding figures in store is nigh impossible, and online the prices are pretty high, but the excitement of coming across that rare good deal is always fun. Turtles really got a long overdue kickstart for action figures recently, and it's been great
Absolutely love these and the super 7 ultimates. Very entertaining and informative vide.
Ace's belt was made to be worn around his chest, and not around his hips, because that's how it's presented in his cardboard art. The same thing happens with Genghis, as it is shown in his cardboard drawing, but the real figure already comes with the belt around his hips, and thats why it is a common mistake to think thats how the belt goes.
I actually figured out it was a bandolier shortly after the vid, so, yeah, now that whole segment is kinda pointless XD
However, I still have a problem with how hard it is to strap Ace's belt to his chest with the wings attached too.
Ace Duck was my first figure, I remember getting him at the drug store.
Thank you for this series!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video, dude! I’m a couple years late but these made my day
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Soooooo nostalgic, such great stories...🤘🏼💯✔️
Idk why but I actully liked the leatherhead toy he was looking more like a real croc but I didnt liked yhe the size
The sculpt and design are pretty good, it's mostly the size that ruined it for me.
Ace and Ghengis' belts go over the shoulder...
That's something I never realized until shortly after posting this video. I think when I saw Super 7's Ace Duck promo pics it suddenly hit me it was a bandolier and not a belt, lol. Though thinking back, they very well may have shown Ace wearing his like that in the package art in the 80s and I just never noticed.
I’m really happy that neca improved the leather head figure! It’s how I imagined him looking as a kid rather than the short version
Neca and Super 7 both have done a great job in beefing him up to size. I can't wait for the Super 7 one to release
Baxter is nice, that’s a dope figure
Really wish they'd make a show based on the toys. I love the way they look. Like the old cartoon, but a little more meaner and muscular and just cooler to look at. The toys are like if TMNT was episode of the Tales From The Crypt cartoon.
That would be amazing, honestly. I would love to see that if it existed.
Wasn’t there a peg-type part in the technodrome toy where Krang’s big hole would fit?
Actually, I believe you are right. There was like a rotating peg for him or something. I completely forgot about that
These are really good reviews my dude
Thank you!
Rubbing alcohol can break down permanent marker too.
Very nice to know!
I got Usagi Yojimbo in a school bus trade. 3 nice match box cars for the figure, I loved that character as a kid. Had broken ears but I fixed it with a paperclip wire I embedded into its head and ears piece. 😆
Nice! Kid DIY fixes got super creative sometimes. We had o work with what we had
@@brendansrambles9464 25yrs later it still has that paperclip embedded, almost seemless job. 😆
@@jaymckay4086 LOL, wow! That's a darn good fix, then
(8:11) I remember him in the old arcade games like the '89 arcade game (where he was a human) and turtles in time (where he was "Baxter Stockman fly")
I don't remember if it's only in the NES version or in the arcade as well, but later in the game you face him again and he's the fly that time.
@@brendansrambles9464 Well I know in the '89 arcade version, hes in it, and I think he attacked the turtles with MOUSERS and the roadkill rodneys (the more obscure one of stockman's) were regular enemies
@@The_Real_Noise Yeah, they have that battle in the NES one too, but then later in the game you fight the fly Baxter. It's been so long since I played the arcade version, though, I can't remember if that happens in that version too.
My Traag Can’t hold his weapons
Yeah, the first couple waves were still ironing out the kinks! You could see them starting to hit their stride with some of the sculpts, like Baxter and Traag, who have more personality and stylization, but most of them still looked a bit awkward. Compare Genghis Frog to Napoleon Bonafrog--theyr'e night and day! But I agree that wave 3 kicked off their best work. By then the sculpts had so much life and style to them! Fun point about wings being limbs, too--I always took note of that as a kid as well! Also the fact that wings (especially bat-like wings) were always depicted as thin, bony limbs. Gargoyles always bothered me in that Goliath's body and arms were huge, but his wings were just skinny little things. Realistically, they would have to be at least as big and muscular as his human arms to sustain flight. It's a total nerd thing to point out, and of course it's just a cartoon, but still. :P
LOL, that' actually a great point. There's no way Goliath's wings could carry him, or most of the characters from Gargoyles.
Metalhead is a good guy it says so on his bio card
Yeah, I know. The toys always considered him a goodguy. But I always thought he's cooler and more useful as a badguy. He was a badguy in the games and from his creation in the cartoon until Donnie reworks him, so I just think of him more as a villain.
@@brendansrambles9464 Okay. I gotcha
@@supermarioplushboi85 The toyline for some odd reason always considered Muckman a villain.
You won't sing it i will DUCK TALES WOOOWHOOOOOO
I don't like the nostrils on the figure of General Traag it looks weird
L take on leatherhead, get that faker out of here!
