One interesting thing to note is that the Borderlands art style re-design was actually *plagiarized* from a short called Codehunters from 2006. The director of that short was contacted by Gearbox for the possibility of doing work on the game based on his work, only to end up getting ghosted, and Gearbox to just stole the artstyle for themselves without hiring or paying the guy. (The intro cutscene on the bus in particular was almost entirely copied from Codehunters as well.) Great game series, but a scummy and oft-forgotten part of its history.
I feel sorry for Borderlands' art director, that was a massive slap in the face. But it was also 100 % the right call to make. While I like the series for its well rounded gameplay, the artstyle is what blows it completely out of the water.
Onimusha. Like DMC it was originally intended as a Resident Evil game. But changed during development. And Assassins Creed which was originally intended as a prince of Persia sequel/reboot.
Yes. AC started out as a Prince of persia game set in the same region. Don't know if it was before the crusades though, probably. Its very subtle but you can already see some very very small things reminecent of Assassins Creed's gameplay in Two Thrones. Like sneak assassinations. Although they were more of a quick time event in Two Thrones.
Also the first Resident Evil for the ps1 was originally going to be a remake of the Famicom Japanese exclusive Sweet Home, which is a horror themed rpg.
Surprised to not see Team Fortress 2 here. It started literally as a realistic approach to war based on the first game before becoming the cartoony version of itself. Well, more entries for a second video.
The original resident evil started off as a remake of snes game home sweet home and eventually became the game we all know today so without home sweet home two franchises may never have existed
Allow me to express my gratitude for creating this video, I’m a huge prototype game nerd. Was fairly well researched too, you guys could’ve mentioned Metroid Prime was once in third person. Bungie wasn’t going to call Halo those names you silly goofs, they were codenames. Thumbs up for including the fact Quake was nearly a Virtua Fighter inspired game. edit: Oh and Halo didn’t modernize the FPS, it made some changes that improved the genre on consoles. I played Quake 3 in the early 2010s for the first time and it didn’t feel outdated at all. In fact it felt fresh and different from the mainstream AAA shooters at the time. In the following years there were shooters that took cues from arena FPSes of yore.
Balan Wonderland was going to be an exciting action platformer during development, unfortunately it fell flat and ended up as a mediocre platformer with somewhat cute, yet discomforting character stylings as Yuji Naka decided to focus his efforts on insider trading instead. Boy(or Girl or They) Howdy! Game Development sure can be a wacky ride huh?!?
Thought FUZE would've made the list since it started out as completely different game called Overstrike. Remember reading in XBOX magazine about it before it was completely changed.
Nope. It was created by Hikeki Kamiya, who also created the first DMC game but after he left capcom and founded Platinum Games with other former Capcom members who left during the same time. That's why the games have many similarities and why Bayo has many references to dmc. Kamiya even goes as far as making it like they take place in the same universe, which every other dmc game really contradicts.
A shame about the political pressures. Perhaps a flashback to Snake's early training? We wouldn't see that until Metal Gear Solid 3, sure. But it might have been cool to see Big Boss a full game earlier teaching this rookie soldier the advanced ropes.
TLDW list: 10. Super Mario Bros 2 (1986 Japanese Famicom Disk System version. Later first released internationally as "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels" in the 1993 SNES pack, "Super Mario All-Stars".) 9. Borderlands (2009) 8. Conker's Bad Fur Day (2001) 7. Metroid Prime (2002) 6. Grand Theft Auto (1997) 5. Devil May Cry (2001) 4. Resident Evil 4 (2005) 3. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001) 2. Quake (1996) 1. Halo (2001) Note: Grand Theft Auto was almost cancelled. Luckily, it did not happen.
Literally super Mario brothers 2 wasn’t released as it was in America because their American janitor played it and said that was brutal , not very fun.
Wow, so they butchered the moody and atmospheric Resident Evil 4 concept for the action and screeching NPC escort mission crap? For shame. RE4 killed the series for me. Don't even get me started on the sequels.
the story behind doki doki panic goes a bit further than that, as Doki doki was made to be mario 2 from the beginning as it was made to be more vertical in gameplay than mario 1 was horizontal. But they thought it was too different and made the (jap) mario 2 rather quickly. Then they reworked what they had of their original Mario 2 and tied it into a japanese brand of department stores creating doki doki panic. (this was a period when nintendo was doing a lot of brand deal games) So yeah doki doki was too different from the japanese, so they make mario 2 but mario 2 was too similar for the americans so they reskinned doki doki back into mario 2.

Randy Pitchford is a grade-A ass.
"If there's one thing you could say about Conkers Bad Fur Day..."
It's that it needs a sequel.

Wait, Assassins Creed was once a Prince Of Persia game at one point?

And it first was planned to be played in first person
Diablo was originally a turn-based RPG
Kinda shocked Fable isn’t on the list
Race Chase might have been interesting to smooth out for GTA V and add it as an arcade minigame or something 😂
Without watching yet I'm gonna guess: Halo, GoldenEye, and Resident Evil 4
EDIT: Two out of three!
Am I the only who is interested in a fanmade D&D quake ?
Yeah
Yes you are
What about Goldeneye? If I'm not mistaken, it was initially conceived as a side scrolling action platform game for the SNES.
Super 3D Noah's Ark on SNES was originally supposed to be a Hellraiser game.
Resident evil turning into Devil May Cry was the best thing to ever happen
Surprised to not see Team Fortress 2 here. It started literally as a realistic approach to war based on the first game before becoming the cartoony version of itself. Well, more entries for a second video.
I'm surprised payday wasn't mentioned. The game literally started as a racing game
Thank you Howard Phillips for giving us the real Super Mario Bros. 2.
i like this video and it's fun to learn stuff about games
The original resident evil started off as a remake of snes game home sweet home and eventually became the game we all know today so without home sweet home two franchises may never have existed

No Microsoft's killer app was 100% going to be called Monkey Nuts but they changed it at the last minute.
@@goatbone [citation needed]
The first game I can think of is Duke Nukem Forever.
Balan Wonderland was going to be an exciting action platformer during development, unfortunately it fell flat and ended up as a mediocre platformer with somewhat cute, yet discomforting character stylings as Yuji Naka decided to focus his efforts on insider trading instead.

Small nitpick, but it's spelled Fuse. I know this because I played through the entire game.
@@CrankyMoogle Ok.
Nice list
1:20 American videogame Crash, not European
No Banjo kazooie? It was originally gonna be a 2d game about a kid and pirates
Anyone else really want to play the haunted house version of resident evil 4?
Yes
Monkey Nuts is a far better title for Halo
Didn’t Bayonetta start out as a DMC game?
Nope. It was created by Hikeki Kamiya, who also created the first DMC game but after he left capcom and founded Platinum Games with other former Capcom members who left during the same time. Borderlands aka the game pitchford stole segas aliens money to make

Shigeru changed Metroid Prime from a third-person shooter into a first-person shooter. That's the biggest change.
I wanna play Money-Nuts
Hello hello!

You love it!!!

Did she just pronounce virtua fighter like that 😂😂😂😂 absolutely tragic 😂👎🏼
Where is Fortnite?
How to suck eggs?
Is that some kinda weird Japanese humor I don’t understand the context for or something 🤷♂️
Can someone help explain
Ugh the narrator
Don't watch then
