I predict the standard American accent will even begin to seep into other English speaking countries such as the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, South Africa and even Australia. @Danny Archer This just one sign of the fact that there are tiny (but sometimes loud) minority of "libtards" -as you say- and there's a majority of normal, sane liberals, leftists, anti-authoritarians, moderates, etc. Actually, it's pretty much the same with the moderate conservatives who kind of have to hide in the 'age of trump'. But the fact that when it comes to actual politics and policies in America the race is between the central right and the far right (by international standards) tells a lot.

Speaking of Portugal, I actually visited the country with my family in 2019. I had a distant cousin tell me that "drugs are taken very seriously in Portugal. They have zero tolerance - they order you to go to rehab", et cetera. That conversation really helped solidify the idea that being tough on drugs doesn't require you to ruin people's lives and lock them in cages.
True....but the drug dealers often kill those that work for them selling the drugs if money or drugs come up missing. The big dealers also lace drugs with other more lethal drugs that cause users to die. Rehab has been proven over and over not to work....the majority go back to using. Majority of the homeless in the US are that way because of drug use....they can’t and don’t want to work....all they want to do is take drugs all the time. I used to be married to a drug dealer...so I’ve seen first hand how people on drugs only care and think about the drugs....about when they are going to get their next fix. People will commit crimes just so they can get drugs....they steal anything they can get their hands on and they will kill innocent people if they get in their way. My ex-husband has been to rehab 3 times by the way....and each time he came out and continued to use and sell drugs. The only sure way to stay off drugs is to never start them in the first place. And also unfortunately in the US....they wouldn’t be tough on drugs if they decriminalized them....they would push to be soft and not do anything. They would say you can’t force people into rehab or something like that.
@@starshine3588 So how do you explain Portugal's drop in drug use after the policy was enacted? Drugs are as bad as you say they are, and rehab doesn't work all of the time. But maybe it still works better than prison, and maybe Portugal is doing something different there too. That, I'm not sure.

Communication works better when words are pronounced and easily understood. This just one sign of the fact that there are tiny (but sometimes loud) minority of "libtards" -as you say- and there's a majority of normal, sane liberals, leftists, anti-authoritarians, moderates, etc.
Actually, it's pretty much the same with the moderate conservatives who kind of have to hide in the 'age of trump'. And in the current, minoritarian, non-representative American political system, the extreme "libtard"/"contard" fringes have disproportionate say in things.
But the fact that when it comes to actual politics and policies in America the race is between the central right and the far right (by international standards) tells a lot.
@Danny Archer not sure why anyone would think all Democrats and Independents are liberal. That’s far from true

I agree with much of Marx's critique of capitalism because most of what he predicted has come into fruition. That said; I think we are way passed that philosophy and need a new intellectual paradigm to trade goods and services. I don't know what that is but this system isn't it and you know it.

Sure, but the main difference is that it is not considered a criminal offense, more like an illness to recover from.
@@MrWhiteyPt Exactly. I was arguing against the idea that decriminalization means being soft on drugs.

Oh hush Maher.. you were able to work from video....... You're wealthy enough to have a nice home in a gated community, with investments out the ass.. Much rather spend the money on the people who have put in the taxes, instead of the ones who squirrel it away and don't invest back into the same pool... And I'd much prefer that money going to those struggling instead of the military complex.

The West Virginia in which I live, LOST. Bill Maher, you totally nailed that one, although we LOST decades ago. I'm still waiting for a Marshall Plan to bail us out.
I am coming.
At the end of WWII, US Army General George C. Marshall sold an idea to begin revitalizing Germany and the rest of western Europe. The Marshall Plan rebuilt the economically devastated countries and kept them from becoming part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Here in the Mid-Ohio River Valley region of West Virginia, we have done reasonably well off economically, as have the Kanawha River Valley. The rest of the State has not done so well, and the coal fields have taken it in the shorts, and the same can be said of eastern Kentucky and southeastern Ohio. King Coal and inept politicians have not been doing well for the State. Bill Maher made a quick, cheap joke about West Virginia, and I personally wish it was funny, but as much as I admire President Biden, I'm not feeling any vibes about my State. I realize he doesn't owe us anything politically. Sadly, we're a blue state turned red, and my vote for him didn't count for a whole heckuva lot. Yet after all, he IS the President of all of us, and we need him to do something good, especially here. If he can, just maybe we can cease being the butt of all the bad jokes Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas rightfully deserve instead.

Read, "The King In Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers. A collection of short weird fiction stories published in 1895. One of the tales is, "The Repairer of Reputations". A strikingly prophetic, yet skewed, look at what the 20th century would bring. In the story there is mention of "Government Lethal Chambers" being rapidly rolled out across every town and city after suicide is legalized. The story is set in New York City in the year 1920, 25 years after the story's publication in 1895, and decades before "Soylent Green" or "Futurama".
Ah. A fellow Futurama fan.

"I'm no money guy" That's right, nor an economist, you're a comedian.
He's a money guy thou, you'd be surprised.
That's debatable
Yeah Bill shut up and dribble lol
@jjjmail No. He doesn't. If he did, he wouldn't be contradicting the Neoclassical-Keynesian synthesis (or, in less obnoxious terms, the consensus of economists right now). Large deficit spending is *exactly* what you're supposed to do during recessions. The Fed's expansion of the money supply is needed to counteract the global deflationary pressures arising from an aging global population and financial markets awash in a glut of cash.
He might have made a lot of money in the stock market, but that doesn't make him informed in the slightest on macroeconomics, and certainly not more than the experts at the Fed.
Now, to be clear, I don't mean to imply that there should be no criticism of the Fed or the govt.'s spending policy, it just annoys me when it's done shallowly for comedy but presented as if the commentator knows what he's talking about (i.e. I wouldn't have the same problem if he was doing standup at a comedy club or even just taking himself less seriously here).
Unfortunately Prohibition is back, except it’s not for alcohol, it’s for voting....
Always liked Bill, even though my politics were different, but he’s really crushing it now!
You're out of touch, Bill, if you think ppl dont need the help. Health insurance on Cobra costs $1600 a month for a family.
The majority don’t need the help. If your employer doesn’t assist with insurance maybe that’s a conversation you need to have. And if you can’t afford coverage, laws protect you from a health care provider denying you service. No one goes without health care in the US, unlike many other countries. Perhaps you’ll have some debt after an emergency, but that’s better than death right?
