Love the detailing, but one mistake. Farms, and Gardens shouldn't have tall trees near them except on the North side. Trees on the North shield from Northern Winds, and do not block any sun.

I’ve got to be honest .I was quite surprised and impressed with the ammount of detail Biffa put into this episode … It looked sooo beautiful and is a real honest depiction of what the UK looks like. Hi farmgirl here... The mentioned tree rows you see around places like this are quite functional. They protect the young growth from strong winds and they provide food and housing for natural pest controllers. This build is such a good idea!! Many people seem to become increasingly interested in growing their own biological harvest. The only thing I'd expect to see is one very rural electricity line to power the coffee machine in the caravan ♥ XD

Based on my experience of growing up in a cotswolds village, your allotment is great! What I think could be missing maybe is horse fields down the road! Heres the thing, horse riding is such a big thing in this area, so realistically especially around farms there's probably going to be a lot of just blank horse fields with public footpaths. Now this relates to the allotment because the local farmers give out the manure for free in my village so the gardeners can use it as fertilizer. Maybe it's a little niche, but it would be a nice detail (I'm talking a HUGE manure pile lol). The allotments my family had also had a large farm house right beside it if that helps, im guessing it was kind of part of their farm land.
My biggest suggestion is honestly just fields and footpaths, which I guess seems a little weird, but it would add so much. Imagine a way you could actually walk between all the villages you're going to set up!
As for the railway, it's super cool, I think you should add a museum kind of thing. If they have steam trains, you can bet that city is going to MILK tourists for it.
A much later idea probably that I just think would be cool is a big farm park (you know like the type kids can go feed lambs and there's a bunch of playgrounds). If you wanted to take up a bunch of space, I feel like a centre parks style thing would be really cool too, plus you could blend it into the woods on the border of the map or something so it would be a nice 'practical' edge.
Edit: Also, you should totally name a village St Hugo's

    • @kaltaron1284
      @kaltaron1284 2 роки тому

IIRC he already has the museum at his hub. He could do another one or even try to build a large engine shed with a railway turntable at the other station.
I agree on walking path between horse pastures and adding stables and manure lots of manure. This sounds very cool and is also something I grew up with. (Radebeul/Lindenau near Dresden and Moritzburg in Germany)

The train takes the long way round from that station to the village, and the "crow-flies" distance between the two is absolutely walkable. I can imagine Geoff Marshall making a video about that trip as the shortest one in Britain. What I mean is, I think the two-car train was more than enough for that route. If there were one-car trains, it would have been even better.

Loving the allotments and these small rural British villages. Although usually you'd get a small, fenced-off plot per person/household - where-as this feels much more open like it's a community allotment. Which would be great if there was a self-sufficient town next to it, and a farmers market too.

The moment you said allotment's my little British heart sang, I also understood why it took so long. It looks amazing...suggestion...a couple of small allotments in 'council' style areas could work. I grew up in Manchester and some of the lower rent areas would have them squeezed into multiple areas where housing couldn't fit or wasn't a good idea like near rail bridges or industrial estates.

It's a fun challenge. The worst part I found about building a Dutch city is they have a ton of good roads with bike lanes on the workshop, but on most of them the bike lanes are green. So a lot of modded roads are unusable because our bike lanes are supposed to be red. There's some great looking Dutch trains and police/ambulance/etc vehicles on there though.

Hi Biffa, loving this series so far. I'm a Chester boy, so thought it would be best to suggest a bit of a Roman town, exposed city walls, tight streets that definitely didn't have cars in mind resulting in lots of one-ways, maybe throw in some Chester-style Tudor row buildings too.

Loved you talking about my hometown Biffa, think that's a UA-cam first for me! The first area you looked at is the Botley road and Osney Island it's a very nice area of old terraced houses which are now ridiculously expensive considering they were built for working class people!
Incidentally, as I'm sure you already know, the terraces were built by factory owners to attract workers also building schools, shops and pubs on every corner. Perhaps it would be good to add some old factory assets to your terraces if you can find them, you could also change the use to residential as they are often converted to flats in the modern day.

Hi Biffa, I’m not sure if it’s also like this in the UK, but in the countries I used to live, the allotments look a little bit different. What I mean is that the allotment complex is more like a collection of separate private parcels, each one with something like a shed or even summer house with the gardening tools, planting equipment or recreation stuff in it. Every such a parcel is usually bordered somehow - a fence, row of plants or a hedge. At your piece of good and hard work i see something more like a public space, property of a group of people or even a single person/ family.
I think in every country, also in UK the allotments look similar, because the idea of it is universal - a place to have a piece of privacy in the nature, being able to grow your own personal veggies and fruits or have ability to just relax outdoor with family and friends.

Love the fix with 2 lanes in one direction under one side of the bridge pillar and the 2 lanes in the other direction under its next door neighbor!
One suggestion for the train… move the node that has the diamond crossover on the rails just a bit further away from both stations, so that the locomotive doesn’t have to slide over to the other track.

Regarding steam trains, I visited Poznan, Poland about ten years ago, and it claimed (true or not, I've no idea) the distinction of being the only city in the world which operated a steam train on a regular commuter service. A group of train enthusiasts had taken over an old rail depot in the town of Wolsztyn, and were running a scheduled service (two or three trips a day) between there and the Poznan central station... a distance of about 70km. Pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing...

Also, the main road from Oxford to Swindon does exactly that sort of split to go under a viaduct carrying a rail line.

Looks a little bit more like some kind of co-op garden project then classical allotments. But I like it very much. And Biffa, you are really up to date with that, as cooperative urban gardening seems to be the future. And it absolutely must be shown a lot more in city skylines.
To me it looks a lot like the cooperative used an old gardening company or flower farm site with all the old greenhouses. Maybe you could name it something like "The Rooibos co-op gardening project".

It would be great to see a big city (like London) in the future episodes with Georgian and Victorian architecture and and a four-track railway coming out of it with one part for local traffic and another for fast trains connecting (cutting through) all surrounding towns. And a mini- or semi- motorway ring like M25. People. Park and ride in small towns. The rail with bridges shaping towns like it used to.
Maybe that Oxford-inspired allotment town could already have a railway planned which would then continue onto the big city

Trees do not grow naturally in straight lines. They grow randomly where the seedling can grow.
Also, look at the allotment in Oxford, none of it is in near rows; it's completely random because people do whatever they want or need and don't have the overhead view you get in CS.

Hey biffa love this series so far and have a couple of ideas for upcoming episodes. Firstly as in Oxford, the River Thames ran straight through and you could create a river or stream and detail around the edges with shrubs maybe. Secondly, if you did decide to make a river you could have small lakes run off it and maybe have a nice path twist and turn round the edges as this is very common in towns and cities next to lakes such as Peterborough. Keep up the good work! 👍

Looking at that "Oxford" intersection. If you want to make it more true-to-life then you should aim to have cut and fill at roughly the same volume. Every bit of soil used to build something up will ideally have come from another location _at the same site._ Because imported fill ain't cheap. For the same reason, roads will also tend to follow natural contours.
If this were done for real then the motorway through the middle would probably have been lowered slightly and the dug out soil used for the ring part, which then wouldn't need to be raised so high. The only bridge sections would then be where the roads cross. Preferably you'd keep as much of the junction as possible "at grade" (existing ground level)
Once you know what to look for, you'll recognise it at just about _every_ UK intersection you see.

Where you put the arrow signs where the road splits under the overpass, you should be in some water barrels or other crash reduction safety feature. In the US, not sure how different the UK is, that split would have guard rails and water barrels. The US drivers would eventually not follow the road and smash into the pillar. The injuries would be devastating (think Princess Diana type crash). Thanks for listening. I ride EMS and I see the accident waiting to happen.

I’m being a nitpick and the effort is great, but standard allotments are 10 poles (about a tennis court) and can be subdivided into 5 or 2.5 poles sizes. Most places you won’t see many greenhouses as they are usually banned for safety reasons with blowing broken glass.
What you have built looks great but to me evokes small holdings rather than allotments
Also allotment land is frequently shoved in areas which are not desirable to build on (as most which are get taken over and sold) so for me it would look better if it backed onto the railway line and was more off the beaten track.

Really nice looking stuff there Biffa. Wee tip if you want to make it more allotment and less garden centre (although that's not necessarily a bad thing to be modelling of course) is to take bits where you've put the same thing down a few times and transplant them with other doubled-up things elsewhere. I've been around allotments for the best part of 40 years and what you get in almost all is a shed and/or a greenhouse, plus plots. Fruit trees are common too.
Have to say though, sure looks nice. Is there a town going to be springing up around it? Pot(t) Biffley perhaps?
