Another very British road feature is a bypass that got cancelled due to finding a rare newt, leaving an expensive road to nowhere with a junction at the end 😂

I watched this on the subway. People probably thought I was that guy.
That suspension bridge over "nothing" both feels like overkill as a design and also the coolest thing on such a road that it literally becomes a landmark. The views facing outward specifically on that bridge would be incredible, each way, and the suspensions actually become a feature of the city's horizon/skyline.
I don't entirely know if it's realistic, I lived in true flat-lands so I have no basis of knowledge. All I know is that it looks totally rad.
I love the idea that anyone that hasn't had the experience of driving on the m25 might actually think its a good road

Sounded great until he put lights on it, then I was like wait that road doesnt seem as good as it sounded. Places like Houston, TX nail the ring road way better
To be fair there were at first meant to be like four series of ring roads at different distances to the center. All but what became the M25 were cancelled for some reason or another.
It's basically one road doing the job of 4.

I love that at your interchange at 15:00 you have the tunnel coming out of the hill at a higher elevation and the motorway down on the valley, but you choose to lover the road from the tunnel onto the ground and raise the motorway into a bridge :)))

27:40 I had the same experience in my one of my builds: The tools, it seems, don't know how to orient the segments correctly to build a bridge. The segments need to alternate orientation on either sides of the pillars.
This is a bug that needs to be fixed.
they also don't know to add the pillars to the bridge.
p.s. now that you have a ring road, remove the highways from the city center.

I imagined something much smaller and simpler, so I guess Biffa got the British standard of overbuilding and overspending right!
No it must be time for the local council to spend their budget for the year, they say they have no money all year then Feb/ March time there are roadworks and building everywhere!!
I think that RCE has had an influence on Biffa. You can see he has embraced the art of efficient shapes especially with the first junction that he re-did😂

On the bridged section by the river, I think it would be cool to extend out the water under it to be a bigger lake. That might make a bit more sense as to why a large bridge was built in that area. Loving the series Biffa!

The blue bridge picture you used in this video is from my hometown! It's an old railroad bridge built in the late 1800s that replaced a bridge that was destroyed by a logjam. It was converted to a footbridge in the heart of our downtown area in the 1980s.

As always, great video. Maybe add an interchange nearest the old village area after coming through the mountain with the ring road. More connections are good when they are strageic.
Great vid. My ocd kicked in with that last junction, the traffic is unable to access the other motorways from all directions. Bottom can go left and straight, top - left and straight, ringroad from the left is sorted, but from the top can't get off to either. Cheers :D

Literally named after the city and the side of the city its on.

Hey! There is an option in TMPE to have dedicated turning lanes at all possible junctions automatically. It could maybe save you the hassle of checking every junction. Keep up the good work!
I liked the RoadHenge pillars on the intersection, Very fancy! I use bridge pillars as park decorations in my builds. If you need to build a bendy bridge you draw them straight and then you can use the draw at line tool to curve the bridge so it renders all of the elements correctly. Keep up the great content Biffa!

that tunnel in the middle of the field doesn't really make sense, unless you have something there you're tunneling under, like they did with Stone Henge. I know there's an asset that looks kinda like Stone Henge in the game, I think you should add it in the middle of the section that tunnel is running through and make it into a park.

For the Non-Brits. The M25 is also known as "The UK's Largest Car Park" - Which should give y'all an idea of how 'loved' it is by those of us who have to use it regularly

The alternate title for this video should be "Biffa Disrespects the topography like never before!" Motorways sunk a hundred feet into the terrain, massive motorway intersections placed without any grading prior to the roadbed being placed. Chaos everywhere! Angry intersections attempt to throw pillars from nowhere at him to stop the rampage, but it is all to no avail! Biffa and his dastardly game Mods triumph in the end! Although anarchy gave him some bridge issues for a bit he soon had it tamed.
I think Real Civic Engineer would be proud how you changed the connection of the ring round in the south: You created the most efficient road connection mankind ever known.

Love the ringroad, it makes for a really natural addition to the city in terms of infrastructure!! One thought i had was that you could turn the first highway intersection you made 90 degrees. the ringroad that comes out from the tunnel is at a higher altitude than the highway going straight into the city from the outside connection, so it may be more natural that the ringroad would be the bridge that goes above the motorway and not opposite. :) it would also mean the ringroad could continue at a higher altitude on the opposite side of the 'valley'' so it doesnt have to cut so deep into the mountain\slope. Altho it would require you to do more work with the ringroad - not that us viewers mind watching that - its one of the reasons why we love watching you! :D
Great idea about the ring road! Lived in NL for about 3 yrs and they had ring roads also. Made it easy for me to figure out where to go !! You did a great job getting it all where it needs to be!!

Can Biffa build it? Yes, he can.
What it looks like to me is that the ring road can also be used (in the areas where it goes through the countryside) as the main connector for any future expansion, whether it be on the inside of the ring road or the outside! Just pop a junction in and you're good!

Ring roads definitely are something. I live just outside Edmonton Alberta Canada. And in the 80s we started construction on our ring road. Fast forward to the late 2010s when completion finally happened and people celebrated. There was the "we done bitchs" construction sign. People driving the whole ring road and timing it. (It's about 45 minutes to do the full loop unless it's rush hour.) And it helped move a lot of traffic off of the through highway and city streets. Gotta love a good ring road.

After watching the entire episode, which was very entertaining, I am only just still puzzled about what I've seen at 3:45 There are soo many parked cars and I wonder why they all parked their cars out there. Is there something nearby being desperate for a parking lot? But other then that I love the new ring road and all the oppurinities you're creating with it ☺

With a main ring road added in, I would actually remove the highways running straight through the city now, or at least downgrade them to arterial roads.
Just considering that most UK cities don't have motorways running through them, I feel like it would be more authentic, plus encouraging any traffic just passing the city to actually use the ring road now and not go straight through it.

Roads follow terrain. They dont just randoomly cut through massive mountains when the slope is that shallow. It looks more fake having it be perfectly level and making massive ravines or birms through everything
One thing I've noticed is that the slip road on the final junction of the video coming off the road heading away from Blightea wants angling so cars can turn right easier (Probably wants another lane, too).
I love the Network Multitool, but I've noticed it's basically anarchy for slopes of any sort (like your attempt to have it build a bridge). Definitely needs a bit of work there. But man, it's saved me SO MUCH TIME.
I did a one-way ring road around the city. So the incoming traffic can only go one-way. Counterclockwise. American roads. haha. But did it with everything un-locked. to put the freeway down before starting the city. Keep up the great videos your cities look great. Wish had it on pc to use all the cool mods.

21:16 I’ve actually tried playing the game with all tiles unlocked and started on the outskirts creating lots of small villages and building towards the town centre as stuff unlocks. I’ve always felt that the starting square should be off centre.

There are a number of "ring" roads in America...the ones that come to my mind are the ones around Baltimore and Washington DC. We call them "beltways". So, our sports rivalries are the Battle of the Beltways!
Atlanta I-285, also known as Capital circle I think, Or at least it was. And like the beltway, a parking lot for no reason on a Sunday afternoon.
At 26:50, you say "bridge", but the word you're probably looking for is "viaduct". More or less the same thing, but if you're doing it to deal with height issues - like crossing a valley without descending into it - then viaduct is the more appropriate word.
Can I suggest a huge lake underneath that long bridge section with possibly some little villages and/or a Universitea built around it and call the entire district "Lake Blightea"? Could definitely be like a leisure and tourism district with a built in education district.

You should have slightly rotated the interchange to line up with the ring road, that would have meant the north exit also lining up to avoid the hill.

Great build! In the US the ring road/loop roads are all over the place in the big cities. In my current build i added a partial ring road (city is along the shore) and it helps with traffic.
I can't hear anything about the M25 without thinking of Good Omens and Crowley's description of how he influenced it.
Small world moment when a blue bridge flashes up for a second and sure enough... It's the local bridge known as "the blue bridge" here in my city in west Michigan

I believe there's already a video on the channel where the Magic Roundabout is created! It's really confusing as the traffic direction changes in the middle.

@21:30; why not have the new ring road meet up with the stub road from the initial roundabout? Simply extend the ring road beyond the roundabout, bridge the river and curve back in to connect with 4 lane grass median road dangling from roundabout; keeping trumpet exchange intact.

When you mentioned the M25 you forgot about the inner ring road. I’m old enough to remember before the M25 was built and the North and South Circular did the same job but further in.

There's ring-roads in the US.
For instance the 494-694 loop around the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul that also runs through Bloomington MN.

Maybe in a future city you can imitate London's system of multiple terminus railway stations around its city centre ...
That big junction with the new quay wall bit... the lanes off hte motorway are sharp turns if you're coming from one direction... they look like motorway > motorway sliplanes when they're actually coming onto a local road so should come into a roundabout or traffic light junction where you can go both ways on the ring road.
Time for some distribution depots by some of these junctions now and some factories! A couple more villages outside the ring road would be nice as well to connect up to as the city expands.

The ring road that goes along the side opposite the lake needs to me a motorway (highway), the interchange needs to be grade separated and free-flowing between the tunnel ring road and river crossing. Keep the inbound motorway from there; if you want to terminate it in the city proper, that first roundabout would be a good spot.
Ring roads look a bit like the loop system here in pheonix metro. Loop-101 -202 and -303 give highway access throughout the city as well as integrating I-10 and I-17. Although here the loops have exits on a roughly 1 mile interval that connects it to surface level arterial streets

My home town in Reno, Nevada USA has a big ring road that goes around the outside of the city. Although the city has over grown it now.

The bridge at the northern (?) part of the Teawold Circle (name suggestion inside) with the hill in the back looks awesome 😍.
To make the existing motorway through center Bligthea less attractive for through traffic, I suggest to add toll station on the entries to town and reduce speed limits as well.

The ring road looks like an elephant! The last junction you worked on in the video is the trunk, the lake in the NE is the eye, the big bend of the railroad (?) in the same area looks like the ear. Hope I'm not the only one seeing this 😂

The "bridge" at 26:30 doesn't seem deep enough to need a tunnel. It might be a bit steep on the one side, but I think in real life the road would be at ground level.
