Look at the beautiful animations. Movement in every scene. We can't find anything like this in "modern" anime. Just freezed frames, no movement. Only the mouth moves, combined with silly dialog and grotesque face expressions. Just awful.
Old anime had plenty of that too you were just only fed the highlights because in the 90’s american companies only brought over anime that did rlly well.
Something I love about Escaflowne - it never hides the human cost of war. Even when they're "villains", they're still people feeling pain, feeling fear, and struggling to avoid death.
Sounds a lot like Mobile suit gundam. Escaflowne's music along with brutal battles felt different. It didn't glorify it. I felt disturbed on it when I was a kid.
Buddy, you only scratched the surface with that analysis. The whole deal with Allen's sister shows how certain characters are willing to discard their humanity for progress. Folken has been prejudiced against his whole life for being half-Atlantean and joined the empire that destroys his home and kills his father just for the promise of creating a world where that prejudice would no longer exist for his brother and got swept up in Isaac Newton's power mad struggle for godhood.

The best example of this weight and force is the sword dual. I haven't watched recent anime but what separates this from other sword fights in anime and maybe other fights in general. Is that it's not trying to be flashy, there's no energy blast, no special skills, no crazy flashiness to it. Cause it's two mechs sword fighting, that's the craziness and what adds to it is the camera work. It's utterly beautiful.
When Escaflowne converts to dragon mode. Just a sight to behold. Just love these mech designs, and proud to be a lover of the often overlooked mech genre.
I saw an episode of this in the late 90s while visiting my brother in college. I was so blown away I bought the original subbed box set and watched at least 20 times through. Still my favorite anime series of all time and favorite score for any television show and up there with any of the great music for motion pictures.
This was Sunrise. They still do 2d mecha animation. Just watch gundam Thunderbolt or Mercury. The animators still put a lot of effort in their work to a point that some have died of overwork. Mecha animation is quite hard to do. You need a special kind of animator but those are busy doing work for Bones or Sunrise.
This was probably one of the first anime I ever watched alongside Sailor Moon and Pokemon back when I was in elementary school. I loved it so much. Dance of Curse has been one of my favorite musical pieces for almost 17 years now. I have the movie, I wish I had the series.

With Isekai being such a popular genre in its own right and Escaflowne being a very unique mecha fantasy series, I would love to see this rebooted and animated by one of the big studios. These designs would look so incredible with a fresh remake.
Yeah but it needs to be done right. Right now English localizations are a political mess. We benefited so much from it being a niche genre few knew or cared about it when this came out.

current animation's level arent even on par with the level of animation of escaflowne. it would look horrible. no thanks. its still looking great and easy to find so there's 0 need for a remake.
No no no. It would never look as good as this, haha. Just release new blu-rays in english so its affordable for people to buy. Please do NOT remake it, it would only be poorer, as this kind of animation is not achievable with digital and is far too expensive to make which is why you simply do not see it anymore.
@ Blu-Ray updates told animation are horrific, whereas lots of studios have successfully implemented “retro” elements in their animation projects. It’s way harder to update old animation well than to just make it new from scratch.

This type of animation is a lost art that modern studios can't recreate. Coincidentally like how the Escaflowne is a lost technology that the greatest scientists on Gaia can't recreate.

Pero en el final si estoy de acuerdo,aunque se dice que si final originalmente era en el episodio 30 que no hicieron por tiempo,aún así no abarcaron mucho en otras tramas ya que se concentraron mucho en la sub trama de Allen

@@juntorres2126 así es, no hace mucho volví a ver la película y aunque mejora algunos aspectos, como los diseños y que deja de lado todo lo irrelevante, igualmente le falta mucho para estar bien. Casi no tiene desarrollo de personajes y como que ocurren cosas sin mucha construcción narrativa. Las armaduras gigantes casi no aparecen y hay una sola batalla entre ellas, que tampoco es la gran cosa.
