Well, was that was an instructive video ...
1 - forget to remove sim card tray
2 - forget 2 screws and attempt to pry MB out
3 - remove cables buy pulling on them...
4 - reconnect battery before charging port
    5- rip metallic part
    6- rip speaker mesh
    7- no adhesive on corners
Thanks was scary, but instructive. Thanks for sharing ! Hope the lady is satisfied!

Nice video. It really sucks how phones are basically irreparable nowadays... even a simple battery replacement takes 10x longer and is much more risky than before. Planned obsolescence at its best.

I absolutely agree with you. Users should be able to replace the battery with a simple click. But they make it incredibly difficult these days which is super annoying. I want to replace my pixel 2 battery but I'm scared of breaking the screen.

@@freyjam8446 I just bought a battery online. I'll just take it to a professional. The pixel 2 screen is incredibly sensitive and can crack if you don't open it properly. Also, the waterproofing is gone once you put a new battery.

My old S5 was awesome. I could easily switch batteries out from the plastic removable back and instantly at 100%. I had 4 batteries . Those were the days.

Great video, thanks. It's all I needed to:
    1) Convince me I need to pay someone to do it (if I can get a reasonable quote for what's - let's be honest - now an obsolete phone).
    or
    2) Get a new phone, but this time, get a new phone that doesn't include planned obsolescence in its features.

I'm slightly surprised, as a technician with little experience, I always have an ifixit guide, Its impressive to be able to so confidently take apart a phone without a guide. nice job!

I'm gonna be critical - but only because maybe it will help someone doing this.
When you removed the midframe, you completely skipped the proximity sensor ribbon cable that is at the top center of the phone.. Actually when you took off the frame, it probably unplugged just by yanking on the flex cable. I did hear you say something like 'how are you supposed to plug THAT back in'. I'll tell you. You unstick it from the midframe, plug it in, then there is a slot in the midframe the sensor fits through to put it back. Use a tiny piece of double side tape to put it back on the midframe.
I don't think you plugged it in at all in this repair. Did you return this phone without the sensor plugged in? How many have you given back to people with a disconnected proximity sensor?
You also heated up the phone with the sim card in it. I never do that. The other thing I would say - is that aside from heat to remove the screen, the next most helpful thing is a good sized suction cup. Aside from the speakers, the adhesive is only 1/8" in all the way around - you do not want to hit the LCD, especially with metal. I would skip ahead in the video and look where that screen cable is. It is RIGHT up against the bottom speaker - it is VERY easy to ruin.

It sucks these phones are so poorly made and it's so difficult to replace the battery. You used to just be able to pop in a new on by taking off the back cover and plugging in a new one. Now you have to peel a bunch of glued junk apart and risk breaking a bunch of stuff. How is this better? Anyway great video. Extremely helpful to change my worn out battery

@Livinundershadows nah i think the tape was just the right amount. he got all the important parts so the screen wont peel up at all. a heat gun will loosen that adhesive quite easily.

A word of warning if you intend to re-use the screen (e.g. you're just replacing the battery and/or charging socket):
When cutting around the bottom of the screen (2:40 - 2:59) be very careful, as there is ANOTHER flexible cable (which is part of the screen itself) towards the bottom of the screen and almost as wide as the screen. That cable connects only to the bottom of the screen, and not anywhere on the body of the phone. At 3:30 on the right-hand side, and 3:54 on the left-hand side, do not put the tool in as far as shown as damage to that flexible cable will result!
As me how I know, LOL ... I accidently cut through part of that cable on one side ... and this was while using a guitar pick - some people have suggested a playing card instead. Now the screen lights up, etc, but will not respond to any touch or swipe commands, despite checking and re-seating the connector shown at 4:50. New screen will be coming soon ... assuming I don't break anything else while replacing the battery and thus totally brick the phone.

Tomorrow my Pixel 2 will get a battery replacement at a repair shop. They warned me the display might break, but from that video it looks like it will break 100%.
holy shit, I really don't want to buy another Google device anymore...

Pretty much every smartphone today is built this way. On the other hand, if the repair shop isn't able to remove the screen without breaking it, they are not qualified to do this kind of work.
Don't take your phone to be a repair shop that won't guarantee their work!

As a service technician, I can say, this guy is incredibly reckless and works very sloppily. I would NEVER take anything to a service center that works like this.
