I really wish they did a PRO4x version of this truck, I like the ride and drivetrain. I worked for a Nissan service department for 15 years and never saw a drivetrain failure. A off road version of this SUV would be on the top of my list.

It’s built on the global Nissan Patrol platform which has Land Cruiser levels of respect in Australia. I’d also love to get those off road goodies. My daily is an F150 but my “toy” is a 2002 Xterra and I love it.

Pickups are much better dirty haulers because its a big external box and you don't care about damaging your interior (or bringing in bugs). The suburban on the other hand is designed to take standard sized sheets of 4x8 building materials like a longbed HD truck, then you still have 3 rows on the weekend. When my friend moved recently the movers showed up with a box truck and a Yukon XL and they put so much stuff in the Yukon it was unreal. Personally half ton pickup trucks are pretty pointless these days. Midsize trucks do their job of payload better, any real work you should probably get a 3/4th ton and for the 2-3 times a year home depot home project warrior, an SUV (or minivan) will be your best bet. I wanted a pickup truck since I was a little boy (like 5) but I have a jeep grand cherokee and other than the length, not being able to fit a standard size door in there, I've had absolutely no issue doing what I need with an SUV and for the 2-3 times a year I really need more I could rent a truck or buy a trailer. The payload and towing is there in these full size SUV's and they are infinitely better to drive day to day, especially the american ones with full 4 corner independent suspension.

Nice refresh. Still some underlying things that make it show it’s age... tiny sunroof, ridiculously slow power folding third row and it needs a couple extra cogs in the transmission to help fuel economy.
Great to see the brake controller.
Love the Nissan V8 though and the Patrol platform is proven around the world.

For hauling stuff I'd choose a long ford transit with the 3.5 ecoboost. It can fit 12 foot lumber, has a payload as good as an f-150, an interior that you won't mind getting dirty and all your cargo is protected from the elements and locked securely and it can be had with AWD. As long as it doesn't have to do duty as a daily driver, this would be my choice for hauling stuff. Heck, if you get the tall roof and the long body you could probably put a small quad and a couple of dirt bikes in it.

Hi Stephen, really nice review on the Armada. When I first saw the title of this video, I was thinking..oh no, not a another Nissan review but then quickly changed my opinion after watching this video. I wonder if this SUV is made in Japan, if so Nissan may have a silver bullet to change perceptions about the brand. The Nissan built in North America with CVT are absolute garbage. With this Armada being a V8, I think for a change Nissan may have a leg up on Toyota since they discontinued the Landcruiser in US but we still have the GX and LX from Lexus which both made in Japan.

Given that the Armada is built on the platform of the Patrol, I do not understand Nissan's refusal to add the same off-road features of it's most direct competitor, the Toyota Sequoia.
Given the popularity of the "off-road" aftermarket. It would be interesting to see the sales of the glitzy Platinum, with heated steering wheel, 39 cupholders, jumbo-tron tablet, and vagina warmers vs. a Pro-4x version that had an older interior (along the lines of the Xterra), rear locking differential, and came with off-road tires. It is irrelevant whether the vehicle is used for traversing the Rubicon Trail or a Starbucks parking lot, a sale is a sale.
I don't know whether Nissan discontinued the Xterra due to sales or inability to meet EPA numbers, but I know that on the used market in my area, Xterras were selling very well last summer when I was looking.

@Pro4x Trdpro - Just FYI: Consumer Reports reliability ratings come straight from owners. That’s real people having real problems or no problems. If someone is tearing down engines & transmissions on new vehicles, they are either stupid or they are having serious problems. Why would anyone tear down a 2019 or newer Armada engine or transmission if it wasn’t having problems? I don’t know one person that has taken their Armada or Suburban off road. Most buy the 4WD for snow. Sure, you can take them off road, but why? I haven’t seen anybody drive their Armada up into the muddy mountains to strap their bloody deer on the top or in the hatch. Most people in the USA haul people, cargo & tow with these & rarely take them off road. In other countries, that’s a whole different story.

Not even close to the ford or chevy's. Especially when you start to talk room, power, longevity and fuel economy. The interior to me, is weirdish/blah, that is personal though. I believe they are not that popular for a reason.

It doesn't require premium. Premium allows use of more aggressive ignition timing which makes more torque and power.

I’m strongly considering it. That there aren’t a million of them already out there is really appealing to me. That it’s v8 on a ladder frame but slightly smaller that the Tahoe & expedition is ideal for me. And I relish the challenge of importing kit designed for the Patrol. Btw, you can fit 35s on this stock!

some people have had issues with gm's cylinder deactivation on their v8's and dont want a small turbo'd engine so this v8 without the cylinder deactivation might be closer to what they want plus you could probably get it under msrp pretty easily since nissan really wants to sell their vehicles

My wife just went 363 miles in her brand new Armada and got 17.3mpg on the first tank so you’re off by 4.8mpg. We bought it over the 3.0 L Yukon Denali and saved $16k. I can buy lots of fuel for that price difference. Sure, a Prius, would save me lots on gas but I have a big boat I need to tow. I guess I’ll keep it and it has a lifetime powertrain warranty too!
