    That was a pleasant surprise. I don't mind the trim level either. This Armada is impressive all the way around.

    Tim, just purchased a 24 Armada, just wanted the old school stuff and a 8 cylinder and I love it. I actually hit 23.5 MPG on the highway at 65MPH on the way home from the dealer. I will keep an eye on it just for curiosity. Also I can buy a lot of fuel to make up for the MPG difference from the V6 turbo at the price which was over 10K (below) MSRP.

    Higher octanes fuels are just meant to reduce knock in higher compression engines. There isn't any more energy per gallon. Engines are just a bit more efficient if you can raise the compression. That 5.6 engine has variable valve timing and knock sensors. It can vary the spark timing and also try to "optimize" the compression within the limits of how much it's cam phasers can adjust the valve timing. So basically, you can really only benefit from higher octane fuel if your engine is set up to take advantage of it.

      You think it definitely helped in this scenario or think it’s worth the 30c price difference from regular?

      @@ALMX5DP I read something by car and driver a few years ago on some extensive tests they did on several engines. All the differences in performance were very minor compared to the cost difference.

    Update: I just got a 2023 Armada and have no difficulty exceeding highway EPA on 93 Octane. I can do 19 mpg with normal drivnig and 20-21 mpg with deliberate light foot effort. This is a "S" with the 4WD.

    I rented a the infinity version Qx80 towed a double axle trailer full of tables chairs and coolers for a wedding. Got 18 going 70. It’s a pretty impressive rig.

    In a 2023 armada i rented in florida, I ran it with regular. I scored between 19 to 22 MPG with an average speed of 75 mph. I also currently lease a 2022 frontier with their v6 and get the same mpg around the same speed. I do get better city though in the frontier

    Really quite like this and the Infiniti twin. My only gripe is they've kept the huge rear bumper shelf that is like 8" further out than the Nissan Patrol. I would have to find a way to swap out to a Patrol rear bumper if i got one of these.

    That’s awesome mpg for that beast! I can’t seem to hit the EPA mpg on my Lexus - often, it’s not even close.

    Armada 4x4 is low key the Nissan Patrol for the US. Few upgrades and it can do a lot.

    It usually takes a couple of tankful on premium before the ECU changes the timing back from regular. AF ratio gets adjusted much quicker.

    Made in Japan quality at the lowest price amongst the competitors - by not investing in the hottest gimmicks and technology.

    At what speed? Speed has a huge impact on economy especially on a behemoth like that. Normally cruising speed on the highway is 70-75. The epa tests at 50 which is pretty ridiculous.

    Prediction: Even if it is a bit higher, it wont be financially beneficial when it comes to filling up due to price difference between 87 and 91.

    Your air density is about 15% less to push through as compared to sea level...

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 3 роки тому +2

      Also means 15% less air being ingested by the engine right?

    • @boss123400
      @boss123400 3 роки тому

      Alan No. The stroke pulls in the same volume, it just weighs 15% less. The computer will adjust the fuel/air ratio from 14:1 to 12.5:1 and the horsepower will be less due to less powerful combustion. Less dense air is also the reason they have less octane at elevation as less octane speeds the combustion up,

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 3 роки тому

      @@boss123400 isn’t 15% less air the same as 15% less dense air?

    • @boss123400
      @boss123400 3 роки тому

      Alan No. 15% less air is a measurement of volume. 15% less dense air is a measurement of weight over volume. The engine is taking in the same volume. Therefore the ratio must be lowered. 15% less volume wouldn't need a correction in fuel/air ratio.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 3 роки тому

      @@boss123400 air isn’t volume though, it’s a mixture of various gases that can occupy up a given volume. Fewer molecules of a substance in a volume means less density no? Maybe I should have just specified, saying 15% less oxygen then.
