    Light
(find the pdf om my website under videos - The Ramen Man)
Light is one thing the student comes to know and then manipulate as they develop as
an artist. Much in the way that a stage director would use light to create focus and drama the
artist uses light to create drama, mood, and much more. The ability to perceive light on the
object and note is qualities develops along side the artists ability to capture this light. Today
we will look at light upon our subject “Ramen Man” and develop the scene in a more
dramatic condition. Light can come from many directions or a single direction and always
affects the subject differently. In today’s subject will use a dramatic lighting from the right to
illuminate the left side of our subject and create a unique mood

Gary, I painted this with you on Zoom in 2020. I had just retired and was a beginner. Watching today reminded me that you have been a big part of my watercolor journey. I love watercolors and thank you for sharing your years of experience. You are a wonderful teacher!

Haven’t seen you in a while and then you popped up! Good to your voice. Challenging portraiture.

It’s really informative to watch you paint. How you build those layers and contrasts, keeping it all loose until finishing touches at the end of the piece. Nice work! Thanks ✨👌🏼✨

Love this painting. The ladle is lifting forward and the more angular cut of the chefs coat takes ten years off his age. ❤ Thank you 😊❤

Gary, I've watched lots of your videos and greatly appreciate both your artistic and teaching styles. Just curious on this one - guess I've never met a Ramen Man, but what is his right hand doing/holding? And what is underneath the ladle - a table, a large pot? Thanks!
