We had a small pension. There were no rolls on Sundays back then. That's why mother baked yeast braids on Saturdays, this scent is pure happiness for me. With butter/jam yummie. Plum cake with cinnamon crumble omg.❤
For my in laws and there parents the yeast bread also is something special from when they were young. I will have to try to make a plum cake with cinnamon that sounds delicious. We usually put no topping and just whip cream.
First of all you need to put out a disclaimer to not watch this video without having several napkins at hand or you'll ruin your keyboard... And as a German I missed one of my favourites: Bienenstich (literal translation: bees's sting). If you haven't yet tried it or just forgot to include it in your list you definitely *must* try that one - simply delicious. In my region it's a yeast dough, a layer of thick cream (sometimes vanilla flavoured) and a top of almond crust. Come to think of it the cream layer might not be suited for a vegan - but maybe there are vegan versions available as well.
I debated eating cake while I did the video, but I figured this would be too torturous for the people watching. I actually have seen this cake online, but I’ve never heard of it from anyone around me so I wonder if it’s a regional cake. It looks and sounds very good so I’ll have to try making it and report back. I’m OK eating cakes that are not vegan, but if I have the option and it’s not much fuss, then I like to make them vegan so I’ll try the traditional way first!
That doesn't sound like a proper Schwarzwaelder to me. It should have tons of cherries (like 750gr) inside the two layers as well. Whipped cream only a bit and the rest is like a jelly kind of thing as far as I remember. Didn't have it in years, though, but have the recipe from my mum here. Apfelstreusel and Kirschstreusel was missing. Zitronenkuchen. Apfelkuchen sehr fein, Rehruecken und Gewuerzkuchen. Ah and Kirschkuchen, like the Erdbeerkuchen or mixed like with Mandarinen. Schreibe schon gemischt.
Wow wow wow! 🤩😍 So many new cakes to look into. Gewürzkuchen seems like it would be a great Christmas cake and the mixed fruit cakes sounds delicious. Now that you say it, I think I only mentioned cherries in the too and they are also throughout the cake. I’ve actually mostly eaten it from a family recipe, and not in shops, and we tend to use a lot of whipped cream. That’s the beauty if all the family recipes. Each one is unique. 🙂🧁
if you're in bavaria try the old bavarian/bavarian creme cake and the prince regent cake of course. buy them at a place where they know what they're doing at mayr's in aßling(south east of munich) for example
My favorite cake depends on my mood and the options available. Obstkuchen similar to Erdbeerkuchen but with mixed fruits (out of a can) is a pleasure to me, raspberry cake as well. 2nd are heavy cake with chocolate, a lot of cream or cheese cakes. Hm.. without having no other options I would even eat Mohnkuchen ... hahaha. Such as marble cake or yeast braids are not boring to me 😎 but "good basic stuff" I like to eat sometimes. One problem is the huge amount of options and varities being available 😂. Thanks for your Info about the unknown "German chocolate cake" 👍
Obstkuchen looks good. So Mohnkuchen is not a favorite! haha. I just never had anything like it growing up so that's why it's so great. Hopefully, you get to try German chocolate cake. Since you like heavy chocolate cakes you might really enjoy it.

try the "hefezopf" with butter. whole other thing then ^^^. linzer cake you need whipped cream on it. like for all cakes that have fruits on it. plum cake needs also whipped cream. like i said before. cakes with fruits needs whipped cream. i suggest that you watch some vids about german cakes and how they should be eaten ^^ greetings
I have had hefezopf with butter, but it needs the butter and Nutella combination to really hit the spot. I almost always eat fruit cakes with whip cream on top and if I don't it is because we forgot to by it. At which point, my husband continues to say we need whip cream through the eating process. haha. :)
Whoops! East coast of the US. 😊 I just looked it up. All the layers look delicious. I think I’ll have to do a follow up video cooking and tasting new cakes.
@@thestaceyminks Maybe you should ... be careful doing that - the door behind you looks pretty standard. Just make sure you'll still be able to fit through. You're willing to commit to a dangerous journey 🤣🤣💛💛💛

I think Hefezopf is very close to American "bread". It tastes very similar in my opinion. And i think you can't say thats a cake. The best cakes for me are a plain Streuselkuchen or a Schokotorte. So funny - translation for Torte = cake. The translation for a Kuchen = cake. 😅😉 At 13:01 where is the German East coast?? Hahahah...
True that it’s not considered a cake. I guess for me I always see it as cake because we eat it so often during cake time. I find it interesting that you think it’s like American bread because I find it really dry and American bread is soft and squishy. Streuselkuchen ist ganz lecker!! 🤤 And Schokotorte looks like a Zuckerbombe. 😳🧁 13:01 You didn’t know Germany has an East Coast? 🫣😉 I meant the US. 😂

Hefezopf ist more a slightly sweeter bread. Not considered cake. More Easter breakfast bread.
Liebe ihn❤
At Easter my mother-in-law makes it into little bunnies and at Nikolaus small Nikolaus men.
Kaffee und Kuchen ❤

You’re not the first person to say this. I have to try to make it.
