What do you guys think of this affordable capture card (as cheap as $5-$20)? Is passing up on the Elgato worth the savings & quality difference? Hope you guys have an awesome day!
@MidnightMan Hey, thank you for making this video. I’m only a kid and I have basically no money, so starting a a UA-cam channel has been tough. Thanks a lot!
Hey everyone! Let me start off by saying this is probably the best review of the HD Capture Card I've seen. I like how he admits the frame rate and clarity is better instead of just saying 'It's good but Elgato a bit better.' In fact, this guy's energy and sheer great vibe made me watch the entire video through, and he could have been taking a dump on the capture card and I would have been fine with it lmao. As someone who has used this cheapo capture card for half a year about now, I have a warning for all of you horror game fanatics! Honestly, this may be because I don't use a splitter, but in games with very dark areas (my greatest example being Little Nightmares) there's a lot of posterization around light sources, and in other games (God of War etc.) I have to sometimes mess with the brightness. Again, this is probably due to not using a splitter, since the game doesn't enable the best quality without being plugged into a monitor or TV. Otherwise, I've had no problems with this capture card! Other than some tug-of-war with the thing for audio at times, which was always an easy fix, I can record most of my games at a great quality with only a few mediocrities in frame rate. I highly recommend it for anyone recording or streaming on a budget!
expensive is always better than cheap, and that's anything you buy. but expensive is the problem, because since i feel like the price of good capture cards are too overpriced for what they are, you can see why people might go the cheap route. but as Epos says in his videos, you get what you pay for, yeah that is the problem right there. you have such a big gap, and that creates a vacuum. And nobody in the community is challenging these major companies to lower their prices. now is Elgato good yea, but are they worth a $150 to $200 dollars, no. why because Elgato cards are not perfect, the latency is good even for one's that are usb2 like the original HD60. but there are issues that can be had, if you don't have the right setup for them. you can't just buy for example the HD60s plus and hope to call it a day, and that's where plug & play capture cards come into play, some can be good if you happened to find one that's decent, but alot of them are bad. if Elgato capture devices started at $99, the price would be a none issue, but as they currently stand there way too overpriced. why because they wanna pack a bunch of garbage in that people barely use half the time, 1080p 60 is all people need, unless you have a 144hz monitor, but unfortunately none of the manufacturers support 1440p 60 or 120, so your left with being forced into 4k 60 pass through to 1080p up to 120.
One of the best summaries how this USB captures card holds up against the "bigger boys" :D I would say I have an above-average understanding when it comes to tec stuff and I already read many articles about this capture cared, but I still watched the entire thing just because of your very entertaining presentation skills! Nice to see how you can build a high-end streaming system with lower costs and without being chained to more expensive brands. Thumbs up!
I enjoyed the vid. Bonus points for putting in the added necessary cables and addressing the audio issues. Which need to be set inside OBS. Most vids on this product, magicly left it out. Me personally, I am looking for a vid of that product. Not being used with OBS. So far only vids with OBS. Good job, though. ;)
I think your demonstration should have shown the HD capture card at 720p. Which makes it 60FPS. It looked sluggish since they were both 1080p and its 30fps max in that card.
Ordered the cheap HDMI>USB 2.0 capture dongle for £3.80 on eBay / $5. This is for composite video, and I figured its easier and cheaper to digitise and upscale first, then use this cheap dongle. 720p at 60fps is more than enough for analogue to digital conversion. Amazing!
I already have the $15 thing just to get my a6500 to work as a webcam on stream, it’s a little fuzzy but I’m not sure if that’s the camera itself or the capture card, I just came here for a comparison and I’m still not fully sure😂 that means I’ll probably stick with the $15 little thing for now
We just did a live event where we had multiple camera inputs, multiple laptop screen out being used simultaneously on Zoom and two separate live streaming setups. We used 6 of these cheap cards along with 3 of Blackmagic PCIe based SDI capture cards for the professional cameras. We couldn't tell the difference and it got the job done. The whole setup was a combination of cheap and expensive pro grade hardware.
Do i have to buy all the accessories when I buy the cheap capture card? Because my plan is just to record gameplay from the ps4 (using PS4' recording) and then use the capture to store my gameplay data from ps4, then plug that capture card to my mac laptop. So is it okay to not buy the accessories because I'm not planning to stream my gameplay live?
You’ll want the splitter so you can still see your gameplay on a TV/monitor. You don’t want to play just from the recording app. This still comes out 1/4 the price of an elgato
What if I have Wireless Headphones like Pulse 3d for PS5... Are you able to record both gameplay and chat audio with DigitNow? Or is it impossibile as if they were plugged via AUX?
I got a $20 capture card for $8 on Amazon on a deal. Had to watch this to see if I did good. Will see.. you should do a step by step video using the cheap one gaming on fb thru obs.. Btw followed and subscribed to you
Thanks for the video man! I’ve been trying to figure out what all I need to stream from my PS4 to OBS so I can do gameplay and also have video of me playing and it’s been so confusing. But this really cleared some things up
This video was super helpful! Thank you, I was debating on buying that capture card when I was looking on Amazon, but I have a question. What if you have a spilt cable for your mic and headphones, will the cheap capture card pick that audio up?
The performance difference might be due to the usb port, elgato hd60S was 3.0 while the cheap card 2.0 and of course the elgato is faster. Just an idea how about you do a comparison between the elgato and other cheap usb 3.0 card
The problem is, the ones advertised on amazon as usb 3.0 are still usb 2.0 just with a blue plug. Oh the ways they try to trick us to make us spend more money...
Thank you for bringing up HDCP. I think for many of us, that is an important factor to consider. There's no reason that broadcasts should be protected when people have had VCRs for around 4 decades.
I think the reason is because you can re-stream the cable channels. If you know anything about IPTV. It's very easy to do this. Just look up IPTV or M3U if you don't know anything about this.
In regards to game audio with the PlayStation, the audio settings can be changed so you can use your controller headset and still capture game audio. I found a UA-cam video that showed how to change it.
On ps4 you can't use a headset device wired or wireless if you want to have audio on your recording. You can set the playstation to chat only and you'll hear the chat, but the game will come through your TV and to the recording. Also note that if you use the chat only feature the recording won't hear you or your party.
Im new to this kind of stuff, if I just want to connect my Nintendo Switch to my MacBook Pro do I just need this Capture Card and a USB-C adapter for my MacBook?
Hmm. I have a mac and a switch, and my goal is to record my gameplay. I think plugging your Switch HMDI out into the hmdi side of the capture card, then somehow plugging the usb a in your usb c port on your computer (you probably have an adapter). From there I would use QuickTime and do New Movie Recording, select the capture card as the input (search yt for how to do that), then I would use my mac’s screen or plug it into my monitor (like normal). Hope this helps! (Not tested but should work 👌)
Will the ASUS vivobook laptop you suggested work for streaming through a capture card because I saw someone on reddit with the exact same specs who says it lags. Can I trust what your saying to buy it because i don’t want to waste money
The 60fps will pass through, but for that particular card you’ll only be able to do record up to 1080p 30fps (even if in obs you try to do 60). There are other cheap cards that will record 1080p60fps.
How do I play with my ps4 full screen when capturing this way? That's something I can figure out, I use to have the Ripsaw which had two hdmis one in and out so it made since but since this is just going into my PC I'm not seeing how to actually play the ps4 game unless I'm playing through OBS.
Thankyouu so much!! This really helped me out becauce i just started streaming and i dont know about the cheap af capture card is worth it or not. Great to see this type of comparison! :)
Hello midnight man! I’m getting an elgato HD 60s capture card however I watched your videos on how to install in into a ps4. The question that I have is will it work if I only have one HDMI port in my monitor? Can I unplug my HDMI cord from my monitor and just connect it to the elgato? Thank you and please respond
Mr.Midnight man i have a question. I am one of those people you had mentioned who wanted to use this capture card with my over the ear mic to communicate and record audio/captured gameplay. I have followed your tutorial/ other videos online to set up an external Sony a6300 for video/audio. I have successfully set up video using the remote software, but still struggle to find a way to pass my own audio thru the external RODE mic connected to my camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
12:44 this is really not a good way to compare, you should've done side by side with the same footage and resolution, it's harder but much easier to tell the difference
I have an HDMI video capture card w/ loop that only needed 2 hdmi cables. It was good while it lasted until it went out completely. Only had it for a few months or so. Not sure I would get another one.
@Midnightman I am interested in streaming on twitch, and I came across the video that you compared the Elgato capture card to the HMDI Digitnow capture card. I was wondering if you could help me with the physical and the Streamlabs setup around this capture card, I was also wondering if there was a way to incorporate a mic and a webcam into the setup? I know this is not the most ideal capture card to be using, but before I drop a lot of money I want to make sure that I can achieve this goal. I appreciate your time and your tutorial videos they have helped a lot in understanding this community!
I know I'm late but I'm new to gaming. I heard you could just plug the console into the capture card and plug the capture card into the computer and use the regular output to the monitor without the splitter, and still see the gameplay, is this true?
Hi. It looks like the Techole splitter is no longer available. Can you give another suggestion? I have a Macbook Pro, and I'd like to make sure it will work with that, the Elgato and cheap capture cards. THANKS!
Really appreciate the video. On the back of my xbox one, there are two hdmi slots. One is an HDMI-in slot, and the other is an HDMI-out slot. Technically couldn't I just get two HDMI cords, instead of three and the splitter? I need the one HDMI cord going from my HDMI in slot to my TV to play games. And couldn't I just use the other cord from the HDMI out-slot to the capture card and my laptop?
Well there is a difference between hmdi in and out (you probs know this) and that difference is that one OUTPUTS an hmdi signal and one INTAKES a signal. For me, I can use 2 hmdi cables bc i have a usb INPUT on my computer for the capture card and also an hmdi OUTPUT for my monitor. In my case, I only need 2 hmdi cables. If you can make what I described work, then you only need 2 cables. But for your original question, I think you still need a splitter. I don’t understand why microsoft would put a hmdi in tho...
Say Bruh, I'm Just Learning OBS and I'm Just into Basic Game recording (For Now At Lease) I Have A HDMI Splitter, so If I Get This Capture Card would I Be able to record my Gameplay from my PS4 To My Laptop Stream through OBS With No Internet Connection, Right? Is That Possible? I Know I'll Need It If I'm Streaming Online Platforms, I Get That.
Hey my guy I just picked up the elagto Hd60s+ so I will be back to my UA-cam.channel I can't wait. To use the elagto Hd60s+ my quality and sound and it's about to be fire 🔥🔥🔥
If you play and stream on the phone, connected to the capture card on the PC, you still need an i5 and over 4GB ram? Considering I will be running stream labs OBS only
if your just playing animal crossing or minecraft skip the HDMI splitter and play through OBS, you really will only notice the latency if your playing in like an esports cup or something anyway
I want to get similar device but my main use would be just get image not video record so do I need minimum specs computer mention on video because the computer I use lower than minimum specs one the resolution of vidoe I gone get 480p or 480i
I have been watching for a few days now and your videos have helped me so much, I have started to upload videos and I’ve always loved gaming so I decided so make videos on it, if u have any tips other u could recommend it would be appreciated
What if you use a Bluetooth headset that uses a usb dongle on ps4? Also there’s a setting that lets your ps4 play audio on the tv and through the headset at same time but usually it’s off would that solve that issue?
hey can u solve my problem i stream without any capture card i only use apowermirror to stream from my ipad 7th gen but the problem is when i listen audio connecting my earphones/headphones to pc i get delay in audio on stream there is no delay only i get delay in audio so my query is how can we remove that audio delay?
Is apowermirror an app? If so, the audio delay might be unsolvable, because its wirelessly transferring the signal from your ipad to pc, nkt thru an hdmi cable.
Depends on the phone, if it is hdmi out compatible you’ll need to get its corresponding adapter that will allow that, then just connect it to the hdmi cable and capture device.
If we use the cheaper $20 Video Capture Card to record video on OBS, is there any lag between the video and audio?? My biggest concern about buying the cheaper option is that the audio will not be insync with the video....Because it would be awful if the audio didn't match the video when you're filming a talking head video.
If I'm using the cheap one on ps4 using a usb microphone and using my headset in the controller will everything work and will all audio be shown in obs?
If you listen from controller using this method your game and party audio won’t be recorded. You have to listen through the computer. Microphone is good plugged in PS
thanks for the info!! after watching this. i think i would spend the money on the elgato. im all about the quality and im new to the computer stuff lol. thanks for the info once again
I found a version on Amazon for $23 that has 1080p 60fps. Safe to say I bought it. Gonna edit this comment with my review. Edit: Yeah it didn't work so I just bought an elgato off my brother
Not very experienced with graphics card specs, but will intel HD graphics 620 work with the cheap capture card? I don't have dedicated graphics cards, so I just want to know if my built in graphics would work with it (the cheap capture card). Thanks!
It will work, but your computer will run high fan/CPU and you won’t be able to do anything else on the computer. If the CPU has few cores it may even cause issues with quality of video output
Hi i need this guy to have more subscriber bcs this helped me so much and tomorow i will be streamimng bcs of him using the cheap capture card offcours i hope he could see this, love your vids bro sorry for the long comment

MidnightMan oh okay gotcha I have a 2018 MacBook so that may be why too, and I’m a bit of a noob can you change that in the settings? (For the graphics card to stream)

@@MidnightMan Thanks. I was able to find the capture cards, just need to get a good splitter. I appreciate your help :-)
Can I use hdmi video capture card to record from TV to laptop. Can u do video for us please.
Normal TV not smart TV
Which/what kind of graphics card do you recommend? I am willing to spend a little more to get a quality graphics card if necessary
Midnightman could you do a video about the cam link?
It’s on my list
@@MidnightMan oh great can't wait to see that
Really appreciate the video.
What about recording pc gameplay , how to set it right ?
i meet the specifications but its still very laggy for me. help?
Looking for something I can use to stream Switch games on Twitch, and I think I just found it.
What is the most recommended capture card?
Elgato HD60S+ for best quality and overall usability.
Hey MidnightMan!! Could you please let me know if I can use 3 cams, IF I buy 3 capture cards? And can I use a switcher with it?
Hey my guy I just picked up the elagto Hd60s+ so I will be back to my UA-cam.channel I can't wait. To use the elagto Hd60s+ my quality and sound and it's about to be fire 🔥🔥🔥
@Neff Games Best Buy sells them
@Neff Games yea best buy sells them but alot of places is sold out where I went only had one left
I have a question about capture cards
Do you need like a Pc that can almost run anything or can you have a potato pc and it's fine?
nice video! i bought the cheapest but there is one with video loop and audio in and out, incorporated, and works 1080p 60fps!.
If you play and stream on the phone, connected to the capture card on the PC, you still need an i5 and over 4GB ram? Considering I will be running stream labs OBS only
can't i just plug in the capture card in my laptop and plug the other end of the HDMI on my monitor
I think you can but make sure the monitor has a hdmi input outlet, not the output outlet because it won't work!
I may have missed it but, for the cheaper capture card, did it require a software to be downloaded to use for obs?
They are driverless, basically seen as a camera
I have a Windows 10 PC and plan on streaming with PS5 and OBS Studio. Which capture card can i get for $100 or less? 🤔
Will a Q9650 work?.. that's all i got and that's as good as i can go in terms of a processor.. cant afford a new pc
if your just playing animal crossing or minecraft skip the HDMI splitter and play through OBS, you really will only notice the latency if your playing in like an esports cup or something anyway
Also there’s a setting that lets your ps4 play audio on the tv and through the headset at same time but usually it’s off would that solve that issue?
hey can u solve my problem
i stream without any capture card
i only use apowermirror to stream from my ipad 7th gen
but the problem is when i listen audio connecting my earphones/headphones to pc i get delay in audio
on stream there is no delay only i get delay in audio
so my query is how can we remove that audio delay?
Is apowermirror an app? If so, the audio delay might be unsolvable, because its wirelessly transferring the signal from your ipad to pc, nkt thru an hdmi cable.
Is the pc specialist pc called the tornado r5 gaming pc compatible with the hdmi capture card bc I wanna know If I can record vids on my switch
Thanks for the info. Just have a question in connecting it. How is it connected to mobile phone going to pc
Depends on the phone, if it is hdmi out compatible you’ll need to get its corresponding adapter that will allow that, then just connect it to the hdmi cable and capture device.
Thanks a lot MidnightMan! Your videos are so great 😁
Will it work with local Set Top Box if I use through AV2HDMI CONVERTER & Plugged the the capture card to HDMI cable ?
If we use the cheaper $20 Video Capture Card to record video on OBS, is there any lag between the video and audio?? My biggest concern about buying the cheaper option is that the audio will not be insync with the video....Because it would be awful if the audio didn't match the video when you're filming a talking head video.
Nope, it will be in sync
So when you record fortnite? There's a little frame drops???
Out of curiosity, is it possible to use the HDMI capture card on a PlayStation 2?
If I'm using the cheap one on ps4 using a usb microphone and using my headset in the controller will everything work and will all audio be shown in obs?
If you listen from controller using this method your game and party audio won’t be recorded. You have to listen through the computer. Microphone is good plugged in PS
Does the audio have a delay?
ty for the very informed video. i was getting annoyed with my $100 elgato and im gonna give this a try and see if it is worth the cheap alternative
I watch most of your vids to start my yt channel 🙂
can you use elgato in windows 8.1? because it only says windows 10. thanks in advance.
Can you output this to a iPhone 11 instead of a computer?
thanks for the info!! after watching this. i think i would spend the money on the elgato. im all about the quality and im new to the computer stuff lol. thanks for the info once again
How would I get across getting audio recording from my PS4 ? Would a Bluetooth headset help?
I found a version on Amazon for $23 that has 1080p 60fps. Safe to say I bought it. Gonna edit this comment with my review. Edit: Yeah it didn't work so I just bought an elgato off my brother
Waitinf
waiting lol
@@overfoxed there you go
@@VideoCentral-bh9tf this made me laugh thanks for the edit
@johnyaruki734 no problem homie!
I heard that the cheaper HD capture cards tend to overheat, is that something you have tested before?
I have not had over hearing issues. I’ve recorded quite a bit with it without issue.
Hi i need this guy to have more subscriber bcs this helped me so much and tomorow i will be streamimng bcs of him using the cheap capture card offcours i hope he could see this, love your vids bro sorry for the long comment
Bro can you help me bcs i think i orderd a wrong hdmi splitter i searched it in yt and its called hdmi switch,i plugged in the hdm switch in the ps4 and this is my issuie when i plug in the hdmi in my tv it works but when i plugged in the hdmi to the capture crad it will just lose the signal.i hope you reply
Hey Midnight great video as always! Quick question does your MacBook get extremely hot when you stream?
Gets a little hot but not much tbh. I use my graphics card to stream now and it’s helped a lot
MidnightMan oh okay gotcha I have a 2018 MacBook so that may be why too, and I’m a bit of a noob can you change that in the settings? (For the graphics card to stream)
thank you for talking about mac omg I swear no one does but its so helpful
Does the hdmi splitter in the video work for a Nintendo switch?
@MidnightMan Would this work well with a mobile android? My phone has a USB-C output, so I think I can go from that to HDMI...Will that affect the sound the same way it affected the PS4? Do you forsee any potential problems with that?
