    You know you’re old when a documentary of something you were old enough to watch on tv & understand, looks like what teachers would wheel into class.. VCR’s & box TV’s, dimmed the lights, & make everyone watch but the voices would put you to sleep in 5 mins 😂🥺

      It is crazy how old this footage looks, though it seems even crazier to me that it's been 20yrs since this event. You think this footage looks old, go back another 12yrs and watch some footage from the first gulf war. Looks like it was from 100yrs ago.

      @@branchtana315 😂😂 right?! I’m 34 and I remember hearing adults telling stories like “this one time.. 15, 20, 25 etc years ago” and thinking how crazy that sounded lol the age I was, I wouldn’t have been alive or too young to think let alone “remember”.. now, something 15-20 years ago feels like yesterday lol this documentary is technically “old” but I remember being in class & having to watch these but weird how the graphics, narrator voices are the same .. making it feel even longer ago lol I was in 7th grade science class.. my dad was a test pilot & worked on the Air Force base.. I just remember the tv’s on & showing 9/11 and everyone’s parents checking them out.. we were in central Florida.. a good ways from NYC so being young & ignorant, I didn’t understand what it had to do with all of us.. we got home & I saw my dad on the couch watching the news & looked like he had been crying .. never seen my dad cry so that’s when I got worried & scared .. now I can’t watch anything 9/11 related without sobbing

      I feel extremely old. My ex deployed to Iraq in 2005, and my best friends husband was KIA in Mosul in February 2005.. some days it feels like it’s only been a few years. Insane that this started twenty years ago this upcoming year.

    I was 8 years old, and I don't remember the events of 2003, but... We are in the south. It is safe. The joint forces were encroaching in the streets. Convoys and armored vehicles. The sound is very strong, and the sound of warplanes is very frightening over our house, causing fear. Thank God, we were not in Baghdad at that time.

    • @hokaibeats3843
      @hokaibeats3843 Рік тому +5

      Let me give you insight on someone who was in Baghdad when this happened. First of all all electricity was off, we had to light candles in the house. It was little bit cold so we had heaters in the house as well. All shops were closed, we had to bake bread on those heater to spare oil (ironically)
      As for outside, constant bombings, the feeling of almost earthquake when the humvees rolled around. Choppers all over the place. I was born 1996 so I didn’t understand that we were invaded. I don’t actually remember having fear over this until years later, when things escalated to “street fights” and when u suddenly had to cancel your day plans because word was on the block that a humvee was on its way and one of the resistance was going to hit it. Sometimes it happened, sometimes it didn’t. But everything was so unstable, we had “fighting days” when there were shots firing constantly for days, these were the scariest one. I have a memory of my mother going out in the middle of a gun fight to buy bread. It was in the middle of a 10 minutes cease fire. But while she was away they started running it down. Shit was scary. Thankfully she sent us to Sweden back in 2010. So we won’t have to live in the consequences of that war. I have a child and a job here and made a great life. Sadly she is still in Baghdad, updating me daily on what’s happening. It’s ugly.

      Time flys bro.. I remember being in my 7th grade social studies class watching the planes his the buildings. I was so confused but when I saw 3 of my teachers crying I knew this was serious! After that, the whole country changed. The city I live in has a Army recruitment office right next to the high school. They would come to the school during lunch time and get people to sign up. I thought about it but I was too busy chasing girls and smoking weed to really make a big decision like that. I probably would’ve joined the Navy though so I could travel like my dad did when he worked in a cargo ship. He probably been to 50 or 60 different countries. I always looked up to him for doing that. He was born in Africa, lived in Netherlands for like 20 years and than moved to Boston Ma. I didn’t meet my dad until I was 4, he left my mom in Portugal but quickly regretted it and brought me my brother and my mom over to Boston. I remember the day I got here but I can’t remember a day in Portugal it’s so weird. I even remember the flight over to Boston from Lisbon Portugal. When I went back to Portugal I remembered smells from when I was a baby. It was like the smell hit me and I thought to myself “this is my home”. One day I will retire in Portugal, such a beautiful peaceful country. Just eating by the beach out there feels so special to me. Lisbon is ranked top 5 in the most beautiful cities in the world and I agree. When you see the view of Lisbon from a rooftop at night you’ll get goosebumps because it’s so beautiful. I tell everyone I know to travel around the world if they can. It really opens your mind up and you realize how young and small the US is.

    It never fails to amaze me, how bad things can be. War is hell. For anyone interested, the most realistic portrayal of this you could watch would be "Generation Kill". Seriously, watch that, 7 part mini-series, shows what soldiers have to deal with, from locals, to the stupidity of command, etc. One hand does not know what the other is doing. War crimes, civilians being killed by mistake. All the horrors that become the normality of war.

      I was in Iraq in 2003-04, we had a Kurdish man in the new Iraqi Army, his name was Haytham, I probably misspelled his name but he was a great man. The first day when the new recruits arrived, I was standing near them and a friend and I saw Haytham and we said “that one is not new to battle and he’s very intelligent” soon after we learned he was the only Kurd in the group of around 100 men. He taught me a lot about the Kurds and whenever we worked with a Kurdish civilian, they were very trustworthy and intelligent, I can’t say enough good things about them, I wish they were in charge of the country. The Iraqi recruits all had very low IQ’s, they behaved like children and couldn’t grasp basic skills. In my experience, the only thing the Iraqi army was good at was running away and removing their uniforms.

You can see that in the actual rescue video because you can clearly see a pj patch on rescuers and the navy SEALS were not wearing any patches and dressed differently and you really couldn't see their faces which was probably intended because they are a very secretive unit. And the helicopters that the SEALS put themselves and Jessica on were the tier special aviation the 160th knight stalkers.
