One thing I never hear mentioned in any of these docs is that the Somalis were so effective during this fight, Operation Gothic Serpent, because Bin Laden had provided the Somalis with proximity sensors for their RPGs. So, instead of having to actually hit the Blackhawk, they just needed to get close. It made a huge difference in their effectiveness and was what led to the two birds being shot down. Idk why no one ever mentions that. Its pretty important.

Sorry for the potential collateral damage, but I would have called in C-130 "spooky" gunships - perhaps several. The Spooky Gunship - when you care enough to send the very best
I was thinking the exact same thing. Even just one gunship would've made a huge difference. "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it".
The Clinton administration refused to allow assets like the ac-130 or armored vehicles because they didn't want to appear too militarized and aggressive. That's why the only air support available were the 160th birds that had miniguns and rockets. I believe eventually marine cobras showed up, but that's why they had to lean on the Pakistanis for the rescue operation. Those assets weren't allowed in country. If I recall the task forsk commander had asked for an ac-130 and bradleys, but was denied.
Then you would really have a holly war on your hand and bombs going off in new york and Washington the only reason it didn't was America painted themselves as a friend of the somali people and aidid warlord even though he was a somali general and a war hero.
The americans thought that somalis are just common africans the dont know that somalis are the best fighter.Americans were taught a lesson in mogadishu in 1993😂😂😂😂
America lost the battle because they undermined the Somali mititants and involved themselves in unplanned mission rather an emotional battle of losing one black hawk.
No somalis fought no all Mogadishu people fought. You're still underestimating us. I'm one of fighter, and I'll tell you small militia from a tribe fought, and we weren't prepared or knew the Americans plan.
Habar Gidir clan didn't' have anything against Americans when they first arrived even welcomed them but US army attacked our leader with big power. So our DNA clicked and they were very lucky they survived, in fact there was a deal with Gen. Aided that rescue to go ahead then the army to leave the country
Americans have always underestimated their opponents this was their mistake somalis went into war with soviet union 13 yrs earlier reaked havoc in ogaden war against nations including ethiopia and USSR.. calling them names like skinnies and demeaning them like hollywood style thugs was a big mistake.

19th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment of the Malaysian Army
11th Regiment, Grup Gerak Khas of the Malaysian Army (few GGK operators during rescue the Super 6-1 crews) these are the soldiers from Malaysia who involved in rescue of the US military special forces...
Amen brother
*8:04** Nothing says "I have no clue what I'm freaking doing and I'm not a real soldier" more than holding your rifle with your elbow extended out at 90 degrees!*

they have the 'Rick Roufus' syndrome...
Exactly
The Clinton administration refused to allow assets like the ac-130 or armored vehicles because they didn't want to appear too militarized and aggressive. That's why the only air support available were the 160th birds that had miniguns and rockets. I believe eventually marine cobras showed up, but that's why they had to lean on the Pakistanis for the rescue operation. Those assets weren't allowed in country. If I recall the task forsk commander had asked for an ac-130 and bradleys, but was denied.
they never thought about it, because they see somalis as skinny animals who can't give fight😂
Then you would really have a holly war on your hand and bombs going off in new york and Washington the only reason it didn't was America painted themselves as a friend of the somali people and aidid warlord even though he was a somali general and a war hero.
RIP Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart
Fake News
I'm very proud to be Somalian American they see how Somalian means war

Clearly the top brass did not consider or dismiss suggestions of possible reaction Somalis will come up with that make things go terribly south.

Oh my....how could this have been? But USA! USA! USA!!!

Habar Gidir clan didn't' have anything against Americans when they first arrived even welcomed them but US army attacked our leader with big power. So our DNA clicked and they were very lucky they survived, in fact there was a deal with Gen. Aided that rescue to go ahead then the army to leave the country
I'm one of the fighters no habargidir clan fought stop looking for attention like a lil women

Americans have always underestimated their opponents this was their mistake somalis went into war with soviet union 13 yrs earlier reaked havoc in ogaden war against nations including ethiopia and USSR.. calling them names like skinnies and demeaning them like hollywood style thugs was a big mistake.
nope they never won the fight
There was no operation called "Blackhawk Down". Ffs.
