  • This is part 1 of a video about how to make a shofar from an African kudu horn. Please excuse the rough nature of the filming and editing. It is the first attempt for me and my boys at video/editing.
    Part 2 on my channel.

    Wow. 11 years ago.
    You looked sturdier and stronger today than you did at time of this recording!

    I have two kudu horns but don’t have the ability to turn it in to a shofar. Would you be willing to make one? My deceased husband got the horns in Africa. Thanks.

    Awesome. Can i make a shofar horn from a rams horn as we had a ram die and I've got the hollow horns from it's head? Would I just follow your instructions?? Much appreciated, Stewart Callum 🤠🙏💯🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

      The general process is the same except for shaping the mouthpiece. I do not know how that is usually done. Guessing heat to soften and shape, then cool.. research and test on a cheap/low value horn.

      @@petergrambo ok, thanks for the advice. I've got 2 from same ram. I'll test on the first one and see if heat and cool works. If not, I'll have the other to figure it out with. Cheers 🍻💯🙏🤠🇦🇺🙏

    is it necessary to sand and polish it...does it impact the sound?

    • @petergrambo
      @petergrambo  8 років тому +2

      Not to my knowledge. I have seen all natural horns and half natural. half polished.

      +Pete Rambo perfect! I've had a horn laying around forever I was going to attach to a walking staff so a horn it will be!

    Dude, how can that bit be an 11/64? Its larger than a half inch bud. Can you let us know the correct size?

      Im guessing he meant 11/16, also probably varies on size of the horn

    Hi, I have just aquired two kudu horns just over 47 inches measured uncut along the curve.....and am very excited to make my own shofar. The horns are still on the skull. where do I cut them off and with what.??

    • @petergrambo
      @petergrambo  9 років тому +1

      I used horns that had been removed from the skull. I would guess simply cutting them off as close to the base as possible is the correct course, then you can trim a bit if needs be.. I.e., conserve as much as possible...

      Oh dear this is the third time I am answering you something keeps wiping out the message....(me pressing the wrong buttons by accident lol). Thanks Peter for answering.. one guy answered in such a way, but with out saying it directly...he did not want to give any trade secrets away.. But I only have this one chance to get it right.. so I want to learn as much as possible before starting. I have managed to loosen the horns and pull them about 5cm away from the skull this has allowed...sorry lightning have to switch the internet off will post again later....Blessings Noreen.

    I cut too high up, and it wasn't solid bone. It makes no sound if I blow. How do I fix it?

    • @petergrambo
      @petergrambo  3 роки тому

      That's a tough spot. In terns of 'kosher', there is no solution. .. if not 'kosher' then you could use something as a plug, maybe hdpe or similar, to fill then redrill.
      For others, the way to avoid this is to start with light cuts and proceed slowly.

    Bueno, supongo que todos los sonidos que son de partes de animales o fabricados a partir de algún órgano que ha estado vivo y a muerto para dar de comer al ser humano, por enfermedad o accidente , lo sea por éstos motivos, no sé si hay otros, que no sean por capricho del ser humano. O sea... habrá que tener cuidado de que no se cojan o se les quite la vida de ninguna otra forma o simplemente para poder hacer sonidos y asi mucho menos todavia, para ofrecerselos a algún Dios, se supone que Dios no lo permitiria o eso dicen y enseña todas las religiones, no conozco gracias a los animales? a otros dioses o religiones que lo permitan. Si, se supone, claro... fíjese usted lo que pasó durante cuantos años? con los colmillos de los elefantes, y pasa todavía hoy en dia. O con los tigres u otras especies y claro, asi no se va a ningún lado, no hace falta entonces llamar a Dios, eso es lo que va a decir, o no? Al contrario no puede decirlo, o cuando pudo quizá, todavia no existia el ser humano como tal, si hay que pensar más todavia, púes no era el ser humano tan inteligente como hoy 2023 dC. Verdad? O quizá vayamos para atras? seguro que tal y si así, vamos, nos encontraremos con él, con Dios. Con Dios. Vaya usted con Dios.
