My favorite female celtic group!!! 😍 I'm also super happy you listened to numerous clips, because the group members have changed so much over the years! My favorite was when Chloë Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Órla Fallon, and Máiréad Nesbitt (violin) were together! 💕

I miss Mairead. Her faerie spriteness was a joy to watch. I'm glad I got to see her live before she left the group.

I don't mean to be dismissive of the new ensemble as they're fantastic but the OG 6 of Chloe, Lisa, Orla, Meav, Hayley, and Mairead is the best that they ever were and nothing will ever top that show they did at Slane Castle back in 2007.

3:57 It comes a lot in irish music both vocally and instrumentally. Grace notes flipping everywhere. By giving more of a space for the grace note it can add the feel of a slide similar to a slide up in a violin without the actual vocal slide which can be too heavy and full for such delicate tonality. Similar to the trills in other spaces, a more tighter controlled vibrato just between two or three notes at the end of a line. Vocal and instrumental folk music share many commonalities.

There's always a built in Level of timbral depth to Altos and contralto voices. It's just unfortunate that they don't get as much individual recognition in the mainstream as the sopranos. They tend to be included as part of ensembles.
They often have richer more expressive voices without having to do excessive ornamentation and dynamics like the sopranos.
They can sing plainly and it still sounds expressive because of the richness, so when they lean into dynamics and expression - wow!
Karen Carpenter, Anita Baker, Akiko Wada, Keiko Kubota, are among some of my favorites.

Saw the one of the newest lineups of theses ladies in concert twice. They sound even better live then in the recordings. The legend playing the fiddle is Mairead Nesbitt. She’s absolutely incredible.
The girl in green during Tir Na Nog is Oonagh. She’s a German singer that does a lot of folky type music, some of which is Tolkien themed. Her stuff is really cool. Highly recommend.

I have been a fan of Celtic Woman since their very first PBS special in 2005. Being hearing impaired and not often able to pick up lyrics that were being said in popular music my mother had the wherewithal when we read about it in the paper to think I might just “enjoy the beautiful sounds” and boy did I ever! I can’t begin to express the joy this group has brought me over the years and I loved hearing your breakdown of their style and clarifying how and what they’re singing. ❤

Oonagh was a special guest vocalist for the song Tir na nOg. As far as I know, she only recorded the song for the album, did the music video, and the taped live performance for the DVD/Broadcast show. She's also a German singer, not Celtic.

Last song was my favorite. I'd heard the melody from an acoustic song by "The Corner Room", and thanks to you just realized that it was an old folk song (1605? 😮)!
I agree with the You in the timbral richness of the last that started the song. Reminded me of *Julie Fowler*, who I think is Scottish.

When I first watched Destiny and heard Eabha's voice I nearly fell out of my chair! She has the most enchanting and haunting voice. I believe Eabha is a contractor (sp?).
Eabha actually wrote and performed a song on the Ancient Land DVD/CD, Garden of Eden that is quite interesting both lyrically and musically. She also performed another solo, Moorlough Shore that starts out acupella and you can't help but feel the heart break of losing your love to war.

Just to throw out something different, how about some reaction to some classic singers and songs, I'm going to suggest four, one very new , one a few years old and two that are much older. I know they can all be found on UA-cam, I hope you take them into consideration, 1. Adrianna Hicks "A Darker Shade of Blue" from the upcoming Broadway show "Some Like It Hot", second is Maureen McGovern "Little Jazz Bird" originally done on the MDA Telethon, but she did record it on her album "Naughty Baby." Third is Johnny Mathis "I'm Glad There is You" and finally from the 1953 movie "Young At Heart" Frank Sinatra and Doris Day duet "You, My Love." Just some thoughts of something different from what you normally do.
