Her Grandma introduced her to Jazz when she was 2 and they would listen to her Grandma's jazz records singing together since then. Her toddler brain must have just totally absorbed her Grandma's classic jazz records as part of her very young development as much as learning to talk! It's as though she absorbed three languages, Jazz, Norwegian, English...in that order! 🤣🙏😎

That "singing out of the side of her mouth" is something that she has never done before or after this song which leads me to believe that this was a deliberate choice to produce that sound on those particular words. Even at a very young age, Angelina would employ identical phrasings and vocal ornamentation progressions of the previous line to create sophisticated musical rhyming schemes. I think a lot of times when people point out Angelina's improper enunciations or techniques, that these are not mistakes, but rather intentional artistic choices.

Always happy to see you come back to Angelina! As I said in my first request to you three years ago, if anyone has a "charismatic voice" it is Angelina Jordan. The amount of character she is able to put into a song is astounding. She uses timing, and pronunciations in such special ways, and she somehow always makes things seem so natural and organic. It's so controlled, and yet so free at the same time. She's such a unique and special artist. It has been awesome to watch her develop her artistry over all these years.

RUSTY SHACKLEFORD. Please tell someone who might listen that in order to protect Angelinas voice long term the sound balance between her voice in the new concerts is wrong. She needs it turned up in the relation to the band. Then she does not need to project and strain her voice so much. The band is overwhelming . Angelina is the star.

@@dojoswitzer a really good sound engineer would solve the problem for all positions. I thought Angelina sounded great but she is only 16 and I come from a medical family. No matter how great she sounds the long term damage to immature vocal chords( which is a medical age not how great she sounds) happens when the young singers really project to balance a band rather than singing as she does in the studio. This is compounded when they sing too many numbers over a short period of time. We are all greedy for Angelina. We can't get enough and she is a generous person who loves to please. I want her to still sound great at 80 like Tom Jones. Not continuous issues like Adele. Or have you heard Annie Lennox lately.

@@anitaherbert1037 Pehaps you would also like to know the performers don’t hear what at the audience hears, because they have their own set of speakers pointing at them; so a recording from an audience phone isn’t going to detect that. I typically gauge my concerns about protecting AJ’s voice on comments from vocal coaches who watch her performances and comment upon singing techniques and actions by the singer to put sound into the sound system, rather than what comes out of a sound system.

@@dojoswitzer I accept what you are saying. I repeat this is nothing to do with what she sounds like. This is to do with the different rates different body tissues mature at and stabilise at, and how over use of them affects the long term flexibility and increases likelyhood of developing problems later. A vocal coach may have different levels of education on human anatomy. Thier knowledge is dependant upon the information imparted to them. When you first hear Angelina singing these classics it's hard to grasp what your ears are hearing. You hear the stylistic nuances of the great singers but your eyes can't believe they could be coming from someone so young. But on a second or third listen you realize that not only can she sing the notes but that she is adding her own incredible stylistic touches. As that realization slowly sinks in you realize my god she knows exactly what she's doing and precisely how she wants to do it. It's like she knows she has this amazing instrument and that it can do exactly what she wants it do and so she pushes it to create a whole range of subtle effects. Vibrato, airiness, rasp, wide interval jumps where she leaps to target notes and hits them pitch perfect every time, like she's running this vocal obstacle course and doing it with effortless ease. And she's so effortless that there is no tension in her performance and that lack of tension gives it a sottness and intimacy that performers spend a whole career trying to achieve. She may be a child but there are flashes of brilliance in this performance.

As you watch more Angelina, you’ll see that on jazzy songs like this that she has sung multiple times at different ages, she sings it differently each time. We get true improvisational jazz singing even when she’s this young-or even younger if you watch her earliest version of Summertime (also at 8 years old) on Norway’s Got Talent. Incredible timing, sometimes slightly behind the beat, but always in absolute control.
One of my favorites is Angelina, live, with a great jazz band behind her, giving us her interpretation of Cry Me a River. I’m old enough to remember the amazing version by Julie London. Like other classics (California Dreamin, Bohemian Rhapsody, Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road…), I didn’t think the originals could or should be touched until I heard how beautifully and respectfully Angelina interprets them.

Elizabeth, thank you very much for another great analysis for Angelina Jordan. Angelina is easily the most accomplished child vocalist of all time. More importantly, she has a special soul, filled with empathy and says she wants to spread a message of peace and love through her music. We are blessed she was born into a loving and caring family, who signed her with Republic Records at age 14 but requested Angelina be allowed as normal a childhood as possible.
Now at age 16, she will be performing 3 concerts in Norway on July 1, 7 and 10 and she has promised a album with new original songs to be released sometime this year. One thing that has baffled me Elizabeth, is why your good friend, and fellow vocal coach, Julia Nilon has only featured Angelina once on her channel. Julia told us that her specialty is the development of the vocal chords on children ages 7 to 12. I think it would be great fun to have the two of you together, reacting to another early performance by Angelina, such as Every Time We Say Goodbye, when Angelina was 10 years old.

I love this version of the song. It's one of my top Angelina favourites. I love the playfulness and dance of the melody lines and find something new in it every time I hear it. Filled with detail - the mark of a true artist. Thank you so much for this reaction. You have a new subscriber eager to hear more Angelina reactions, especially her earlier ones.

I loved this. As a fan I didn't bother watching her music video for this one she did at 9, thinking I had already seen this. But as a fan you absolutely have to check that out for yourself, reaction or not. As cool as her 'I Put a Spell on You' cover from that age. When I finally watched it I was a bit upset it isn't one of her go too's for fans to suggest. It's super cool phrasing much like this, but different and just better. As complete and polished, fun and her own, as 'I put a spell on you' as well.

Thank you so much for returning too Angelina. Fly me to the moon is something she sang many times including for Quincy Jones 84th Birthday at age 12 a stunning performance. There is a studio version around age 9 with a music video that is nicer than the view. If you really want to go to the start, watch (even if you do not react on YT) her 4 live NGT Norways got talent performances, they are short and stunning (Ages 7 to 8). Gloomy Sunday, I'm a fool to want you (acapella), Bang Bang, and Summertime. Of course she has plenty of current material to respond to as well. Best.

She's absolutely amazing to any person who's ever heard her without any knowledge of music but if you listen to her and you have some musical background singing background or just are familiar with the history of those jazz singers and you realize the little intricacies she's putting into each performance it makes her even more mind-blowing

She’s awesome and so damn great. Makes me happy that, that type of music isn’t fully dead, as it’s the last era of true music, with full up bands, and vocals, also a killer song by itself. She killed it.

There is a recording of the first time she is in a recording studio at 6 years old. She is singing "I Who Have Nothing", if you do a reaction remember she is reading and singing in English which is a second language. The best part is she still reacts like a little kid when she hit some of the notes.

This little girl began selecting music to listen to on a tablet while she was still learning to talk. At 2 years old she walked around with a tablet listening to jazz. Safe to say jazz is one of her (several) native languages. You can see her close her eyes and enter into the music track playing in her head and just replicate it at an extraordinary level of fidelity .. of course with whatever color she choses to add from her extensive repertoire of classic techniques. All very deliberate and reproducible.
    Love your analyses, thanks.

You did an Angelina playlist, you could do one just of her singing Fly Me to the Moon. It seems to be her favorite song, she sings it every where. Angelina walking down the street, so she pulls out her phone and does a Tik-Tok of Fly Me to the Moon, because, of course she does ! If you can find it, at about this age they were in Rio de Janeiro and climbed up the steps to Christ the Redeemer. Tangled up in tourists they stopped just below the statue and Angelina leaned out on the railing and started singing Fly Me to the Moon. Why? Why not. Tourists walking up and down, loudspeaker starts blaring, nobody noticing the astonishing little girl, who happily sings away, because, of course she does. Thoughts of Elizabeth in the delivery room with Angelina singing Fly Me to the Moon playing on the speakers. Pay attention, kid, this is how to sing it ! Happy baby time !

When Angelina was 12 she was invited to sing this song at Quincy Jones birthday concert with a full band. It is a completely different song and just plain beautiful , a more grown up version. There is a video of the rehearsal that is excellent. It's too bad you didn't know about it and you could have done a comparison . Maybe on it's own ?😄

I highly recommend you listen to it, even if not a reaction. Shows two things. First her amazing work ethic. Second her drive for perfection. Relentless. Always make me laugh when reactors say "she sings effortlessly. " May seem so because of her demeanor but she works on her technique ALL THE TIME. How many tiktok videos have we seen of her singing walking down the street or in the car or in a parking garage. Anywhere. Anytime. All the time.

I’ve been watching Angelina Jordan since she’s one and a half years old singing jazz. I follow her all these years she’s 17 now and she’s gonna be a superstar. There’s nothing to stop I washed her from the time she was one and a half that’s why she’s 17 and she is in Mackinac. She’s 6 foot tall now invoices rode with her, she is amazing. She got invited to go sang at the Pfizer soccer award show at her and read one. Did you do all the other it was mine blowing oh by the way she sat. There was a guesstimate 350, million paper saw this, and she stepped on the stage she was still barefooted.

I love it how you are so happy when listening to her and kept starting, stopping, explaining things, go back to start, start again etc. Very interesting how you explain it all, but I have said that before :-)
She is always very relaxed and happy on stage. In an interview she said that she gets energy from the audience and that she enters a happy place when she performs. She has listened a lot to the classics and has apparently a great instinct how to reproduce those sounds at will. I don’t know if you have seen her sing Bang Bang at Norway got Talent: she sings it with very little vibrato so even then she could turn it on and off. Her singing to the side might have had something to do with her changing her teeth?
She has grown a lot over the years: she must be practicing very hard as well. She sang the same song for Quincy Jones’ 85th birthday party and in it you can hear a lot of growth already. Very recently she covered Elvis’ cover of Mark James’ Suspicious Minds and I think you will be wow-ed by that.
    Thanks!

Another incredibly talented kid you should react to is Darci Lynne. She was a contestant on "America's Got Talent" a few years ago (I believe she was 11 or 12) with an act that involved singing and ventriloquism, so she did it with the mouth closed and without any lip movement. Every time was doing a different style of music, so if you'll do that you should check out a video with all of her performances, I believe there are a few on UA-cam.
    Cheers 🥂

I first heard Angelina Jordan on Norway's Got Talent, where she did a cover of Billy Holidays "Gloomy Sunday" with such fearless confidence and style it brought tears to my eyes.Check out all four of her performances for that show, I think you will be amazed. At age seven she had a real sense of herself. She Knew who she was and what she wanted to do and how to do it.....Thanks.

I neglected to add that the three young girls in Angelina's video are her uncle's two youngsters Athena and Aurora, and Angelina's sister Juliette (age 12). And one thing I noticed is I paid very close attention to Angelina's facial expression and body movement. Very telling how deeply she involves herself in her song. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
