- Judy Collins and Stephen Stills reunite on the Graham Nash interview show. They perform the Ian Tyson song, "Someday Soon" which Judy first learned from Stephen Stills in 1968, when they were working on here Who Knows Where The Time Goes album.
Three of my favorites in my 73 years! God Bless, and God Speed, friends.
After a rocky start, she has taken very good care of herself Remarkable her voice still sounds so good
I have lived in the best of times! Best music, Best friends, Best cars, Best concerts, Best girl companions and lovers, Best food, Best schools and Universities, I have been very lucky and am humbled everytime I see and hear the strife and misery among my fellow citizens...Greed and unregulated capitalism will never win.
Socialism and Un-Regulated Taxation (communism) will Only Destroy & Never Win . .
She's just so darned beautiful. The Music, the Voice, the Eyes; where have all the years & the flowers gone. This all takes me back... riding my motor' down the Blvd. in Paris, one warm morning in May, so many years ago. Oh, I was a free man then.
Hope your still a free man with peace of mind.
Best wishes from Rotorua,
New Zealand.
Free man in Paris ?
@@lisamoroney3036 you know I'd go back there tomorrow, but for the work I've taken on....
Stokin the star maker machinery of the popular song 🎧
Golly, the hair stood up on the back of my neck to hear that voice clear as a bell over 40 years later. What a gift, what a lady!
My problem is that I seriously love the song, seemingly so much that I get choked up when I try singing along. I end up just quietly listening & playing the guitar chords on my air guitar! Good times! Awesome song & singer! Suzy Boggus does a killer rendition, as well! 👍
Can't agree more! Sweet!
3 of folk rock's royalty- gave many a warm feeling ...
@@Beezlie727 Suzy does a good cover of Judy Collins song, but nothing original. Judy Collins version is better
Her album version of this is absolutely the best version she or anybody else has done. The only person I think that has come close to a great performance of it is Suzy Bogguss.
Her voice is crystalline, just beautiful, like she is, the full package and Someday Soon is one of my favorite songs ever..❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great watching Stills and Nash together here, plus the incredibly clear voice of Judy Collins...........totally blew me away
Find the original recording on Judy’s LP, “Who knows where the time goes”, with the late Buddy Emmons on steel guitar....just beautiful.
Years back I was emailing back and forth with Judy Collins about the prospect of doing a reprise of this album. At the time (late 1990s) all the original players were still alive and Judy said that our conversation had inspired her to do such an album with all the original musicians (James Burton, Stephen, Chris Ethridge, Jim Gordon, Van Dyke Parks, etc.). Judy told me that she had recently been writing country songs and they would fit perfectly into that album. Of course she would have had to perform another version of Someday Soon. As we know, it never came to pass, and sadly, we watched the backing musicians pass one by one. While Chris Ethridge died earlier, when Buddy Emmons died, that was the end of any hope she would pull this off. Love you Judy, wishing tho tha that you had followed thru on this project idea.
Before she was born, she asked God if she could have an extremely beautiful voice and God said YES.
2021... still brilliant.
OMG! Judy sings like she always did and of course Stills, he bangs out a lead to any song like nobody else! Thankyou!
She still can knock it out of the park. Always loved her music as well as CSN and sometimes Y !
This video is proof that Stephen Stills is an influential, yet often uderrated, guitarist.
These lessons are national treasures!
Ian Tyson has been a favorite of mine since 1961. This song reflects his great talent. Suzy Bogguss also recorded this great song and Ian built a rodeo facility on his ranch from the royalties. Judy's version is as good as Ian or Suzy. All wonderful!
I'm impressed by the understated Graham Nash one-man harmony backing oohs and aah. Perfect low-volume balance. Of course Judy's vocal is fantastic, definitely her best song.
She is playing my favorite guitar, a 12 string, Led Belly was called the King of the Twelve String.
Three people accidentally hit the thumbs-down when collapsing onto their knees to weep in worship--understandable, law of averages, you know,
Nine years after this they were on tour in CA. I was lucky enough to see them. Amazing.
Great. Thanks for this. 1990, I think? Interesting to compare it with her original 1969 version. Plus the 1986 recording with Ian & Sylvia. There are some notable variations in the melody. I've been looking at many of your Judy Collins videos here on youtube and realising what a proficient, gifted musician she is - yes, remarkable voice, remarkable singer, but remarkable all-round musician too. (That is also detectable in the Antonio Brico film.)
I'm holding her album "Hard times for lovers" as I listen. Beautiful pictures of her and memories
Acoustic instruments, beautiful voices- who knew that anyone on earth still played music like this:)
I certainly remember the first time I ever heard Suite Judy Blue Eyes. It was the fall of 1969. I had just bought something in the Casper, WY K-Mart which was piping a local radio station though the store intercom system. As I was walking toward the exit I the intro to SJBE and the lyrics, "It's getting to the point that I'm no fun anymore," stopped me dead in my tracks.
A 1969 all summer long me and my pals would go around singing the ending.
great comment.. amazing song, heavenly harmony :)
Cute to see the glances of admiration jumping back and forth. Never saw Stephen smile like that so much and Judy was positively giddy. Sweet.
You know you're old when you can remember when all that music came out. Crosby, Stills and Nash.
A few years ago I saw Judy and Stephen in concert, from right next to stage in the center. Judy can still sing. I’d never realized how good a guitarist Stills is.
Stephen was one of Jimi Hendrix’s favourite jamming partners. Jimi would play acoustic blues and Stephen would put on a clinic in folk-rock. Stephen also loved playing with Neil Young. Everyone else he just blew away.
Stephen Stills is one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. I remember when that was commonly believed.
It's something to see the source of Stills' inspiration for Suite Judy Blue Eyes on the stage with him, and Nash humming along in the background.
Thanks. I am trying to re-do the older videos with better quality clips. But I do want to honor those folks who posted thoughtful comments on the previous videos. So, yes, I'm re-typing the good ones by hand.
Here is a news flash for you. Judy is working on a memoir book that is due out within the next year. Title will be . . . .
"Sweet Judy Blue Eyes." So perhaps she will be sharing more details about her relationships with Stephen and the other members of CS&N.
Thanks for the folk stars
Always beautiful.. that lovely pristine voice.. Thank you Judy Collins💋❤️🌜⭐⭐⭐🎋🎋🎋
Hello Sue, How are you doing?
god, she's still in full voice. so very wonderful. thanks for posting. been missing her lately and just idly searched her out on youtube...
Just heard her 2019 in a small theater in Loveland Colorado. Her voice was actually better. Still pristine and clear but richer and more dimensional. She radiated Presence.
Goooooorgeous!!!!!!
Her voice gives one goosebumps 😍
Waves all over from my cheeks down to the calves of my legs. God bless
God I love this song.
Likewise. looking forward to seeing her in concert next month.
I'd say that she could inspire someone to write a song as great as "Judy Blue Eyes."
It was long ago and most of us are dead, but, damn, when we were young , we were amazing.
A beautiful rendition of Ian Tyson's classic song (from the folk duo Ian And Sylvia). Ian is a superlative singer in the category of Waylon Jennings and an excellent songwriter to boot. He also wrote Four Strong Winds that Neil Young covered on Comes A Time.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Someday_Soon_(Ian_Tyson_song)
Actually, Sylvia Tyson wrote the song.
@@johnbrabant9548 Hi John, actually Sylvia Tyson, née Fricker, wrote the We Five hit You Were On My Mind. A very talented duo, isn't it?
Beautiful song and voice. So sad that her son killed himself.
J.C.'s voice improved with age. Hard to believe as it was primo in the 60's If you were around then, you probably cannot listen without tearing up.
Rod-Her voice is still improving-listen to her tribute to her mother called "In the Twilight" from her live at the Metropolitan Museum of Art concert-Gorgeous and she's somewhere in her what. 70's?
@@Amp389lanG She worked hard when she was younger to train her voice with a professional vocal trainer. She still does vocal exercises- that's how she has kept that incredible voice.
She is outstanding but at 80 now does not hit the same high notes that she could 50 years ago (and who can!?). Saw her in concert w Stephen a few years back.
Wow. Judy Collins sounds as wonderful as ever, and Stephen Stills's solo on the bridge was excellent. Thank you for posting this.
Indeed. The blend between Judy's voice and Stephen's style of playing, brings this performance to another level. The combination works quite well. Agreed! Another great solo from THE "one man band", himself! Stephen nailed the bridge!!
One of my favorite singers (Judy) and one of my favorite song writers (Stephen).
Judy's voice is wonderful.💐
Hello Donna..
Such an awesome voice! Time of the sixties with so much different creative forces happening...❤
On this Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, I disagree with 51 people.
Legends. Judy sings better than ever. Beautiful voice, beautiful person.
She is gifted the three of them are a magic moment.
Beautiful! Such a beautiful voice! A flood of memories of my youth!
Hello Kimbo, How are you doing?
The three people on this stage played the soundtrack of my youth. I have tears in my eyes and an open heart listening to this. This song, as sung by Judy Collins, is one of my favorites. Add Stephen to it, and I'm floating.
So am I, ooh beautiful tout...
Saw her perform last year in Salina Kansas 2015~she's still gorgeous and her voice is still lovely~
I'm assuming it wasn't always like this, but you could see genuine affection and admiration on their faces when Stills walked out on stage. Very wonderful to see that.
Sweet Judy blue eyes.
Beautiful song, beautifully played. Another great Ian Tyson song. RIP IAN.
Girl's got skills!! That voice, those eyes, her songwriting, OMG! No wonder Stephen fell so hard! I like to pretend it's ME he wrote "Suite" for. I tell myself it was dark and he mistook my eyes for blue instead of the turquoise green that they are. I've got some pretty cool eyes, but oh my! when I see hers. There's no contest! Ah, but I have my dreams....
I swear Judy could have sung opera as a Soprano. So lovely...
Steve’s a very talented man. Give him any instrument and he can play it. Extremely well.
RSC3516 couldn't agree with you mote. Love Steve and all he had done but Judy was never a favorite of mine though I concede -she was talented Just not my type. Loved Steve, and Joni Mitchell, &most of his musical alliances with others👍😎
GOD BLESS DENVER'S OWN MUSICAL TREASURE: WE LOVE YOU JUDY AND WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU.
She was born in Seattle, and didn't move to Denver until the age of 10.
Just found this video; WOW! Judy Collins has such a wonderful singing voice.
Look at the way he looks at her...priceless
Judy was 70 when she recorded this, still singing as beautifully as ever.
This clip was from the late '80's or early '90's at the latest, so she was way younger than that.
@@BlueEyes-gp8lg I investigated. Graham Nash had an interview show on cable TV - this episode is from 1990.
Can you believe she’s 89
My First concert experience, probably in ‘72 or 73.
@@NERSkate Her wikipedia page says she is 85.
I get chills everytime I hear this. Judy sings it so beautifully. Thanks for the memories ❤️
Been hearing the original since it was first released. So I hear every note, every intonation, every word that isn't THE SAME. But this is BEAUTIFUL..
I liked Judy Collins play a Martin 12-string guitar in this UA-cam video, but I knew she had a Guild 12-string that she loaned to Pete Seeger.
+Zeke Smukler i thought puke seeger was fucking jimmy carter
A beautiful lady and beautiful singer ! She and this song bring back many wonderful memories.
Sweet Judy - One-Of-A-Kind voice - Takes me back to 1969 (in a 'cover band' in So Calif.) found a "chick singer" who could do Judy Collins' music - -
FROM mic1emily: What can I say? To everything, turn, turn, turn. She was the best folk vocalist of her generation and she still is. thank you Judy.
FROM rileysgirl: This is just so amazing. Suite Judy and Steve have again left me speechless. Thanks very much for uploading this, Betahifi.
FROM neilemac: From the feet on my toes . . . to the head on my nose . . . THANKS!!!
You will be pleased to know that they are still good friends, and will be singing a duet together on Judy's new album, due out in May.
Phil in Boston
That who knows where the Times go album went below the radar its a classic as was Manassas' first
Music with feeling, all this music from back then was raw, great , fully something I understand...
Nowadays, eh...
FROM honeysuckly1719: THANK YOU so much for posting this. How interesting that they all get along, mainly because I can only imagine the drama that went on in the 60's between these three.
FROM elarqui55: Watching this video really touched my soul. Thanks a lot, from Buenos Aires. Tinto y L'Albahaca.
FROM vegantamales: Great performance! I love them both. I think they are soulmates.
FROM dangerousbastard: Great stuff! Graham's mullet ain't bad either! LOL.
FROM pbyardh: Man, I used to think Judy Collins overrated, but this vid absolutely changed my mind. Ignorance on my part, that she did that old Ian Tyson song, but whatever connection she has with CSN certifies her as worthy! Thanks for uploading this. It is educational, to say the least!
Wow. Musical royalty doing what they do, brilliantly.
Nice but I prefer Suzy Bogus and Jewel more this song. But great to see these legends here.
Goddamn, so so pretty. Stills stretches out on his lead. Judy, you sing like an angel. Thank you; so nice to still be alive!
I love every song she ever song but one of my favorites was her cover of SUNNY GOODGE STREET by Donovan. I first heard this song sitting in the basement of Figaro's Cafe in the Village in 1967. What a time it was, it was.
Judy by far covers this song better then anyone. Yes, I have heard other covers by well known singers and though there are some good ones, Judy takes it to an incredible outstanding level that surpasses all others.
Also, others that I have heard have arrangements that I don't care for as well, even if the singer does a good job.
On her version of this great song, she had Stills and James Burton (Elvis ,Ricky Nelson) on elec.gtr and the Amazing Buddy Emmons on Steel, Chris Ethridge on bass. Imo by far her best album and a bonafide Classic. Suzy Boggus did a great version on her Aces album, also a Classic.
Omg she sings like an angel such a beautiful voice such a beautiful performance the two of them, great together.
Ah...Sweet Judy Blue Eyes!! The 12 string sounds really good.
Someday Soon on Elektra Records was the first single I bought. Loved this song. Judy Collins sounds as good now as then. I didn't know about this performance until I ran into this here (from UA-cam recommendation after Send in the Clowns).
Simply spectacular . Love this ladies voice.
Liquid Silver with Graham Nash doing harmonies and Steven Still lead. Not bad.
No one can sing Amazing Grace like here, she has the voice of an Angel
Rachael Faro's amazing grace is like no other Ive ever heard
Didn't they live together? "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" was written for her. Unique piece of music! If you are looking for unique, check out my EP "Heart Walk" on UA-cam. Thanks!
Hello Gwyn..
Classic. First time I heard Suite: Judy Blue eyes was seeing the Woodstock movie. Hooked... Before that, I listened to her album Wildflowers. “Michael From Mountains” runs through my mind quite often.
Judy blues eyes, que j’écoute encore de CSN 55 ans après -❤ pour david
Wonderful tune and very nice to hear Judy and Stephen playing it... I don't understand why they had a pianist in there; seems it would have been quite effective with just the 2 acoustic guitars... Some producer, I'm guessing!
"Who Knows Where the Time Goes" is probably my favorite of all Judy's records; great songs, GREAT musicians and the lady at her best!!!
She can sing wow
Still feeling b t her and s stills
Wow... the intro was a total set-up, but the song is great. First time seeing this.
Beautiful song from great performers and people. God bless everyone from Patrick
@alphakid42 I remember hearing Ian and Sylvia Tyson sing this song in 1965 off an album called Northern Journey. It was famous then. Where do you think Stills heard it. Tyson has released a number of different versions of this song over the years. i've also heard him perform this song live numerous times. By the way, Tyson wrote this song in 1964
No doubt he heard it from Neil young. Along with four strong winds. Was lucky enough to have a few beers with Ian in okotoks Alberta back when.
FROM mthivier: Wonderful video, thanks for posting! Judy is remarkable. She is one of the few women performers from that time frame whose career continued through the decades to the 1990s and 2000s, and who STILL sounds as good now as she did then!
FROM rahlgren: She is unbelievably beautiful, with an unbelievable beautiful voice.
Judy is a great singer I would like to hear Judy and Emily Lou Harris sing together
Oh I really love this.....I once heard Ian Tyson say in an interview that he bought his ranch in Longview, Alberta from the royalties he got from JC's version of "Someday Soon". My family always called this song "Damned 'ol Rodeo".
One thought is, after 3 songs about herself, would she choose one, to stay with till the end? Thinking about it, nahh, then she would have to be Mrs Judith _______. And because of how things went back then , she would cease singing and be a Mrs in background! SO I believe she made best point of all...SMILED, winked and simply continued on AS JUIDITH COLLINS Singer, musician extraordinaire, and rightfully so. I discovered her in 1972 and have been mystified ever since!
Blow you old blue Norther? Somebody's from Texas!! Nobody else knows what a blue Norther is!
Awesome video! Seems like only yesterday that song was playing on the radio.........
Professionally, they were equals and both in good company
You should have seen Stills and Collins the two years they toured together. I sat in the second row in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra hall .... It was so moving, I cried.
X she is beautiful with a voice of a angel and Stephen stills was always my favorite lead
......I've now seen all good people.......;)
Nash mullet makes special appearance
It was September..1968..I had finally discharged from the Marines..22 months in Vietnam..I was just beginning to breath freely again..unless you have been there..you really ave no idea..my night torments would come ..later..but..I heard this song on an old A.M. L.A. Radio station..I..had no idea that someone knew me that well...because this was my song..at least it was for the moment...
Ty so much. Pure magic. My favorite female singer singing my fav. song of hers whilst playing with my no1 guitar virtuoso (which I saw live many times and even whispered in his ear... ;).... what a treat. Thank you kindly.
Hello, How are you doing?
It's such a sublime song.
It deserves the talent on that stage.
