Awesome video...the closing comment "Now, all we have to do is save it to the CNC machine"...How do you do that?....dumb question. The CNC has a controller...is it wired to the computer or transfer files via USB. Seeing how the file is transferred and seeing the CNC started would take the video to the next level. I make tiny mother of pearl inlays for headstock and fretboards (right now by hand). The MoP pieces are generally 50mm Sq. x 2mm thick. Any recommendations on an appropriate sized machine?

It was interesting to see how you were able to draw and set up the Coaster using the software. Nicely done. I was hoping that you would be able to set up the piece in the mill and actually see it working. Learning the software is perhaps the biggest challenge to this SC. I have yet to see a video where the item is drawn out and then completed in a cnc mill. Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks for nudging me to actually start using my CNC mill that I bought in 2013 and haven't cut anything on it as I just wanted to learn the CNC process after 60 years of conventional machining.......I think the popular little 3018 CNC router that is sold on EBAY, AMAZON and other areas for about A$200 would be the ideal start up to get anyone into making things with CNC without the blood, sweat and tears of the learning curve ..........no one in his right mind would contemplate writing G code for the tool path to do even a relatively simple project like this coaster.

This is almost 3 years later I am watching this.. I am always fearful of buying something and then a newer/improved product comes along. I also realize companies aren't going to typically sabotage selling their current product (e.g. the M1000) a few months shy of a new/better/etc coming out.. but.. it would be great if there was a rough idea if there is an improved M1000 coming soon as I wont be buying for the next few months. Or is the M1000 like the best for the next 5 to 10 years and there is no reason not to purchase in the coming months? The build quality looks amazing. I can't imagine anything newer is going to be much better in terms of the material used to build the machine with. But maybe new/better motors, more precise, faster, quieter, longer lasting? Newer tools (e.g. more powerful laser head, better router head, 3D printer updated, etc)?

Man, I have no idea wtf I am doing wrong. I followed the exact steps you layout here, but for the circle, it ends up creating 2 toolpaths. Which ends up just making a circle line without pocketing out the whole center circle. It also wants to do 5 passes instead of 2. I even tried doing it without the logo and it still down a profile path despite selecting the pocket. I had 1/8in end mill selected, it cut out then logo just fine. But it will not do the circle correctly. I reset 3 times to make sure I was doing everything the exact same way you were. All the settings were the same, everything. It will not do the circle. Oh and when I set up to do the radius corners, it wanted to do 17 passes....

  • @f1nut009

I have given up trying to find a CNC Company or person to do a wood carving project for me. It seems like there are two worlds in CNC. 1) folks that are mass producing a few items, with some personalization and people that just say NO to their customers. It’s a shame that some of the best CNC Work comes out of Russia…. You are also required to have an Item number… My futile attempts want to sell me CNC Equipment like Laguna… frustrating….
