There's a couple of options for the BMW gearbox swap - the dual clutch (DCT) 7 speed from a E90 or F80 M3, or F10 M5, then there is the ZF HP8 which is an 8 speed automatic and is used in BMW's and loads of other stuff too, and as a result can be had pretty cheaply.
Quality video Mike, MK2 Escort was a beast, definitely worth getting a 7 speed dct box, this is what a few mk4 supra guys run. Got my fez mk8 1.0 stage 2 now, just need a better clutch & non leaking gearbox 😂

What a beast! Absolutely love the lil thing 👍🏻🖤🏴☠️ Hate the squeeky poly bushings though, I had them too on my old Ford and it always sounded as if the car was gonna rip itself in half! 😅
So in my opinion, a Mark 2 Escort should have a good Pinto or a good Cosworth engine. Both engines can be a good comp for this vehicle. a well-made pinto 2.1 in the Esslinger style easily brings 220 hp power ... that's how I've already done it in a Mk1 Escort with a friend ... and that thing was hell .....
@karlsanderson8127 probably because of a dry sump failure or because it was making massive power. The fact is a pinto engine needs lots of money to make a decent about of power. A k20 engine is 200hp stock.
They're labeled outside on THE SIDE THAT SHOULD BE FACING OUT 😂 I get not everyone knows but strewth. Probably explains the severe lack of grip despite the weather conditions

Dave Edmands built a savage xr2 back in the day. My friend bought it and sold it on. So annoying as I’d love to have put it back to how it was from back in the day. Think the original xflow engine was knocking on the door or 2ltr capacity too 😳
@@mikefpe Yeah, me and Aaron built that Xflow for Dave, the engine was standard stroke and 86mm bore for 1800cc and the power was 207 flywheel bhp measured on Sanspeeds rolling road at Bexleyheath, that Xflow gave amazing torque and made max 207 hp at only 7.6K rpm which is pretty low in the range. When I was testing it round local roads on cold tyres the power at 5k was so strong I was getting straight line torque steer in 5th gear!
@@mikefpe That XR2 of Daves would run low 13 second quarters all day long at Avon Park and beat a lot of Cossies, the times an RS500 driver would come running over after being beaten by Dave demanding to know what the engine was and then being shown that it was a Xflow on Weber DCOE48 carbs the poor guy nearly cried! The car would have run in the low 12's easy if it had been rear wheel drive but it could never get any traction off the line, the car always won by top end charge which is what upset the Cossie drivers as they had the XR2 off the line by several car lengths then Dave would fly past at the top end of the strip, I think the terminals were around 111mph
