@@jamesbaird5023 I’ve always loved something a bit unassuming. Subtle looks and it also makes for a fun drive when you leave other cars in the rear view mirror. Unfortunately driving a beige mk2 escort about these days stands out like a sore thumb. I’m forever being stopped and flagged down to chat about it. It’s all part of the fun 👍🏻
Not long seen this on motor Addicts. What a little weapon bro! Love the build and have just subscribed. Keen to go back and watch the build and also, what comes up next! 💪🏻
Love it mate. Reminds me of my old 2wd saff cossie, I had it running about 450 which were pretty decent 15 years ago. Same in second gear at york drag strip trying to balance the throttle due to traction haha. So much better than the “racers” with their dsg etc 🙄
The shafts to go for are squires gp1 baby halfshafts from r.a.c.e in stoke on trent. Ive yet to see anybody break their shafts. Andy Whitehouse in Rotherham to put it together for you. Loving the car by the way. Really liking the conversion and how it mates up with the mazda box. Plus its a sleeper. Proper machine lad. Good luck with it 👏
Hey there, I'd be putting a 2wd hilux axle under it. One of the really early models (rn10-25) would nearly bolt straight in. They take a beating and have lots of aftermarket parts available.
@@bradboost me and my brother thought 12s would make sense. What a beast! Great idea mate, all the best! I’ll keep my beady little eyes on the project 👀
Here from Motor Addicts. If you're keeping it ford then definitely need to go for an Atlas. Not cheap these days but then you'll only buy one once. Check out GS Escorts in Runcorn, Graham might be able to sort you out. Or do what i did back in the day and buy a Capri 2.8 special with some MOT left on it, and then take the thing off once it expired and part the rest haha.
@@bradboost All down to money isn't it haha. But Atlas is the tried and tested route, plus once you have one, there's a whole host of goodies and link/anti tramp kits you can add to them. Props for using the RS engine though, im an Focus RS owner myself now, good to see how the engine runs with little to no weight to pull.
go atlas! expensive but worth it. my mk2 was only 190bhp did a 13.7 ... 17 odd years ago. I used half shafts that were tapered towards the splines to stop the twisting, or curly wurly effect.
@@bradboost yeah, or you are just going to keep throwing money at shafts, dont get me wrong there are some well build/made shafts for these english axels but heavey duty shafts are like £800 odd quidz.. what shafts did you use they did look quite beefy. If they are snapping at this level meh.. . we "back in the day" were side slipping the clutch and flat shifting the poor things lol but every few runs was to take the shafts out just to check them before snapidge.
@@rs2klee they’re standard shafts. I guess I expected a bit much from them 😂 like ya say I want something I know I can trust at these power levels and do run after run. 👍🏻
@@bradboost holy shit, lol they lasted well really.. Also depends if you get the 1.3 1.6 half shafts.. the more thicker shafts were on the rs2000`s ;) kinda what the heavy duty ones are based on.
Ye I think you’re right it’s a bit scary at speed and I reckon it would fold like tin foil 😂 I’ll have to plan a cage into the winter strip down and rebuild 👍🏻
Wow I did the exact same time on my first run with a Sr20det in my escort then the second run I snapped my axle hitting second too. English axles just not made for 300hp😅
Why don't you get a 4 x 4 set up off a sapphire as you'll have more torque and more traction on all 4 corners I know it's a lot of work but it will be a one off in the country
These thoughts have crossed my mind. It’s very tight for space but I guess anything is possible with enough time and money unfortunately I lack both 😂👍🏻
English axles are for xflows & pintos with 180bhp you need a bigger diff & I would suggest at least a classic bucket seat or you’ll roll around in there
Never put std shafts in an lsd, the internals of the lsd are usually made from 4340, std Ford shafts are just hardened steel with 4% manganese, they are utterly crap, I can't believe you though it would last, Quaife shafts are made from 4340 like conrods are made of, far superior strengh, you should match shaft material with diff material. I've ran Quaife 22 spline shafts and diff in my Anglia at SantaPod with Slick tyres, hard launch 8k & drop the clutch, no problems. An English setup like that will take some punishment.
They’ve been good as gold on the road but I guess lack of grip kept them going. I just thought I’d push my luck and see if I could sneak a 12 second pass in before it broke but it wasn’t to be. So you reckon uprated shafts will handle the power obviously everyone is saying go atlas. Obviously I’d love to but bank balance says otherwise 😂
@@bradboost the problem is that people don't understand the strength difference in the 4340 alloy steel shafts, it's probably 10x stronger than the std Ford shafts, yeah so they're still breakable but at much higher levels, go with 18 spline shafts & diff for additional insurance, I've seen many lsd diffs die with std shafts, as the shaft breaks it takes the diff with it, they always break through the spline end & that's inside the diff, Quaife shafts are actually smaller in diameter just after the splines & the final machine finish is far superior to the mass production Ford shaft that was designed for 105 bhp or so. You won't break that setup in a hurry like you did with the std Ford shafts.
I did have this crazy idea in my head 🤔 something out of a truck or something. I think it’ll end up making things harder. You can get atlas axles ready to go that can take the power just not sure I’ll get away with a remortgage to pay for it 😂😂👍🏻
I love the fact that the escort is standard as possible inside and out ❤

Yee this is the decision that needs to be made now. Risk a £1000 worth of shafts which could last 4 seconds or go all out with atlas 💰 💰
