So.... I wouldn't want bimmerlink if I have a good quality bi-directional scan tool correct? I Have Bimmercode and love it, Is there any reason for this where my scanner does the same things?

Hi, Great videos, very helpful. On the subject of exhaust valves being kept open via bimmerlink. Do you have to select this function every time you get in the car after keying off? Or does the function stay in the memory. many thanks
@@delboy2596 I have the same question, did you find out if you have to keep running it each time? Same with active sound design (asd) will it stay off if you press it once off then just leave in the module?
Today I tried Bimmerlink for a couple of hours, and I found a number of problems for a "beginner"... I would like to have a table so I can connect a sensor value to a sensor that I know exactly where it is and the article number of that sensor in my 2011 X3 F25 30d. Then I need a table with normal values and limit values of that sensor. I think the raw values many times are between 0 and 5,000 mV in 255 (256, 0-255 steps). Then there are Three different "lines" "Engine oil temperature"... One of them shows a value. Then I have sensor value -100 °C, Is some sensor faulty, and/or do I have this sensor in my car? I have only one faulty code in my car, and I know where it comes from ("worn out" break warning cable, front axle). The rear break warning cable is "broken" but I don't get any fault code! Then I don't understand the values that I get from the DPF! I bought the car in January 2023 with 246,000 Km, and I don't believe that there is a new DPF. Infact I think I should also have Ista+ to learn how to interpret the values from Bimmerlink. At least the OBD2 PID values can be found in Wikipedia, but there is also no connection to where exactly a certain sensor sits on a specific engine. Nowadays everything is so complicated... The coolant temperatures are a little bit different depending on where in the system the sensor is! The questions I would have regarding the problems mentioned above, are just a small part of what Bimmerlink can "solve" or show. I would like to be able to hide functionality that doesn't apply to my car, but there is no easy way to figure out what is relevant and what isn't. I use a Android "pad", 10", to look at all the values. It would be quite convenient to be able to use the pad or cellular phone, to see if a certain value is faulty or not. In this case the developer has all the information, but he should make some of it public as a PDF file. If you print the file on paper, it would be quite easy to note the connected part number to a certain "sensor name". On paper you can always write something in the margin!

I agree but some don’t want the hassle of setting that up. I mean I use Ethernet myself when I’m using the original software but for BimmerCode the adapter works good and it’s cheap.
@@BMWDoctor I personally use the modBMW ENET adapter, which puts a wifi signal out, has it's password on the adapter and has a port for ethernet as well. There was no setting up needed, and loading times are great (i.e. when reading the big modules). Also officially supported by the bimmer link apps, as well as ista or some more advanced software. Hi Dean, I find your videos very informative and useful. Lately I am experiencing hesitation while accelerating after a stop at a signal and while going uphill as well. The rpm goes high upto 2000rpm and mpg needle moves to 16 mpg. Will bimmerlink be able to diagnose what's causing this issue ? Also does bimmerlink have the option of doing the dpf degeneration ? I had the same issue, did an intake valve cleaning and the hesitation went away. Unfortunately I don’t think any public scanning tool would be able to figure that out
Permanent DTC codes started around 2010. If you car is pre-2010, you might not see it as an option? They can't be cleared with a scan tool, so the problem needs to be fixed and then it'll clear on its own after run cycles.

The ones with exhaust coming out means they are petrol models. The ones with no exhaust tips means they are diesel as they have down pipes underneath. The road tax difference is based on the model and year, but BimmerLink will work on the E53 X5
