We use the word parfait in America too, but traditionally a parfait here includes yogurt instead of ice cream, grains (such as crunchy oats or granola), and fruit. Super yummy!! The parfait you and Sutan made looks delicious too! Definite Asian flavors with the red beans and matcha. I want to try this with my own kiddos!

for anyone that doesn't know, gelatin is not vegetarian, it is collagen taken from animal body parts (animal bones, skin and cartilage). Use vegetarian options like Moe suggested, like agar

The most easy to buy cake similar to castella in the US might be frozen Sara Lee pound cake. I haven't had it in a long time (I discovered that I am very gluten intolerant) but what you used looks similar to what I remember from years ago. ❤ your videos, Sutan is doing so well and I completely understand only wanting to do what you want to.

Pound cake, Angel Food cake a soft fluffy white cake like a sponge to soak up the juices of fresh strawberries soaked in sugar and condensed milk, or peaches, lemon, blueberries, etc..also tiny little cakes, the size of a tea 🍵, called Shortcakes with a dip, like a bowl to put the same fruit toppings on without dripping down...gonna try your recipe. As a comfort food, my great aunt would toast bread then tear it into pieces. She would put the pieces in a bowl with sugar sprinkled on top. She would add milk and give it to us. I changed it a little bit by adding cinnamon to the sugar. Another way you could change your recipe would be to toast the bread in the oven. Crunch without the calories in the oil. The sponge cake is like our "Pound Cake". You should try Tiramisu Trifle = parfait for a crowd. Or a banana split. I want to see Sutan's face when she tries a banana split. 😊

A lot of workforce would be safer if they can practice what this baby has learned.

Matcha jelly looks so good! I still have culinary matcha powder left that I rarely use. My mom knows how to make anko, so I can ask her how she does it. I think I did see packaged castella at my local Asian store, but I would definitely prefer to make my own. This would be great with leftover brownies as well. The good thing is that Haagen-Dazs does have matcha ice cream, so I can definitely pick some up next time I'm at Target on my way home from work. I did buy parfait/ice cream glasses so I could someday make a Japanese parfait.
It's called parfait in English as well. A sundae is specifically ice cream with additions (such as chocolate fudge etc.) and does not have to have layers. A parfait is a layered sweet, and it can have ice cream but it's the layers that make it a parfait.
