  • Though DADGAD is most commonly associated with Celtic music and other folk styles, fingerstyle great Al Petteway teaches how to play the blues in this nonstandard tuning. See the complete Weekly Workout lesson in the July/August 2021 issue of AG or at bit.ly/3uRdz89.

I like what you're doing, but I wish the camera angle was on your left instead of your right, because it would give a better view of your fingers and fretboard. The current angle is largely the back of your hand, and it's difficult to tell what's going on. It's hard to rely on my ears due to the different tuning, it doesn't feel natural yet.

Very hard to understand for a beginner. The fingerpositions are not shown. It is not told or shown which strings to pull. It sounds good, but I cannot understand what to do.

Yes, if you're a relative beginner on guitar and an absolute beginner on DADGAD this could be tough to follow. Take it slooow, an try to figure out each note/chord/fretting individually. Make notes on paper. If you figure out just the first few patterns, then you've just taken a BIG step on ear training, and that is a good thing for all guitar learners -regardless of level.
