Huge hit in Australia 1978, Dragon had plenty of hits until the mid to late 80's here. Marc Hunter is the singer, Marc passed away quite a few years ago.
Dragon were one of the bands from New Zealand who came over to Australia and constantly toured the pubs and clubs. Other bands that also followed the same path were Split Enz, Mi-sex, Noiseworks, Sharon O'Neill and many more...
Dragon what a catalogue. I was in love with them after hearing Get That Jive Check out Summer Young Years Are you old enough I’m still in love with you Unfortunately lead singer Marc Hunter passed away RIP gorgeous man
April in New Zealand is the end of the Summer. Dragon had quite a long and successful run (based in Australia) despite the loose behaviour of some band members. This song is perfect for Marc's voice. As Marc's health got seriously bad the Australian music industry staged a benefit concert to raise funds for his care, featuring big Aussie stars like Colin Hay (Men At Work), Johnny Farnham and Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil). I am of course a Kiwi, and this song has survived as my favourite of all.
@@caseydrought867 absolutely 👍 Marc is buried on our beautiful south coast in a seaside cemetery in Gerringong. I go visit his grave regularly. He’s one of us 🥰
Fantastic song, iconic band in NZ and Australia. Marc was with Dragon from 1972 until 1994. He died of throat cancer in 1998, aged 44. His brother, Todd, is still active in the music industry. April Sun is about nearing the end of the southern summer, birds heading off soon to winter in a warmer climate. It's thinking about doing the exact same thing. Have you reacted to Split Enz, Neil Finn, former Split Enz member in Crowded House and Tim Finn from Split Enz. Watch their Split Enz reunion live concert very, very good! Tim Finn has a great voice and his solo stuff is good. Different to his brother Neil.
To set the scene in the mid 70's with the release of Skyhooks debut album " Living in the seventies" Australia realised our own bands were just as good as overseas bands. A flood of original aussie music ensued.
Hi guys, the 70s, takes me back, way way back. I don’t remember this band, but as BP2 said, they could be so many bands from the 70s. They sound really good, the music/beat is great, it’s a real fun in the sun song. Great choice Jenell56, and a great upload 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Grew up listening to Dragon n all the NZ great bands. Old man used to tell all the stories of chasing the Kuri across NZ in a Ford Falcon listening to Dragon Chasin that April Sun🤘
Wow Thanks Guys! Yeah Marc Hunter was very charismatic and I can see alot of the artists you made reference to in that performance. So many good rock bands in Aus/NZ in that era too 😎👍
Very 70's indeed. I'm not a lover of 70's music. I was born in 76 so it's the 80's for me. But. I agree, this is really chilled and for me is good background music for when I'm cooking the Sunday roast. It's definitely a Sunday song if you know what I mean. You get your upbeat stuff for work days to wake you up, your dancy clubby tunes for the weekend, your relaxing stuff for winding down, and your Sunday stuff for nostalgia. That's how I describe my musical tastes anyway. 😁 (I watched this yesterday, but I got 'Ollie-d' and couldn't comment. 'Ollie-d' is when my little one demands every second of my attention. All parents know how THAT is, right?🤣)
Good choice, jenell56! I haven't heard of them before but Chuey and I will be checking out more of them. They hit the '70s on the head, perfect party song, everyone should like it, dance people, rock people, anybody. Loved it, glad you didn't pick mine this week! Peter Wolf, the lead singer reminds me of Peter Wolf!
Dragon were massive in Australia. Their cheekiness got them into trouble, especially in the US, so didn't break into that market...Song lyrics always a bit cheeky, too...Bit of a reference to Cold War politics in this one, and bit of a 'Lolita' reference in their song 'Are You Old Enough?' which went to Number 1 in Australia in '78.
Like you two, I've never heard of this band at all. I will take a look after and see what else they did and if I recognise anything. Typical 70's sound that is ok but nothing to really get excited about. The mid/back end of the 70's was when disco became popular, now that was great music. I can't remember is Disco is on the wheel, if not please put it on.
Well it’s because they base themselves here as we had the bigger main stream audience. We know they are Kiwi but they lived in Australia most of the time as they toured a lot. I always say they are New Zealand/ honorary Aussie band. But it’s no different than you’s trying to own Crowd House because of Neil Finn because his New Zealand.. Sorry but they were formed in Australia. They are classed as an Australian Band even Neil said they were. 🧐😊
Absolutely. I often go sit at Marc Hunters gravesite in Gerringong NSW Australia and play Dragons songs. His grave faces NZ and is in an amazing location overlooking the ocean. To his Aussie fans, he’s Aussie ❤️
The 🎉 of the best new zealand band from way back , try to make the big time in L.A, but found the music industry very tough over there and don't have much suscess
True rockers like all the legendary pub bands in ozzy and nz, my foster mum is first cousins with the Hunter boys and I live in the same town with guy named Dan who is the son of the keyboardist and the man who wrote this Anthem cheers Lads from kiwi land , p.s Heroin was the downfall of this incredible band❤❤❤🇳🇿🇦🇺
They sing better songs than this .... people don't associate New Zealand with music but we have a few you would have heard...and a lot you wish you had try max Merton slipping away from me. It's early but if you want later Lorde is a kiwi.
Here in Australia April Sun one of the most requested songs to perform in a band, this song never dies cheers to you both Kim
Iconic NZ band from the 70s and 80s playing in pubs all over New Zealand and Australia ❤
Dragon World Famous In Raglan🤘

I was born in 81 and I would listen to Dragon in my parents vinyl collection. I really loved "This time".

Noiseworks are a Sydney band mate. Jon Stevens though is a kiwi.
Loved Sharon O'Neill one of my favourite singers of that era She was cool!

I am a New Zealander. And a bloody good band. Unbelievable band that made a good name and put NZ on the map for music
Along with Split Enz who toured overseas.
From Wellington NZ, this song is still a staple in small town pubs, just found you guys, going to have a good watch through
@hothatch86

Yes Dragon was big here in Australia.

Dragon was a big NZ band back in my time and we would sneak into pubs just to see them while under age 🤣🤣🤣. Enjoyed your reactions
I listened to a lot of music in the 70's but never heard these guys. Great sound! Thanks jenell56, good choice.
Nice tune, looking forward to some April sun, it's been a long old winter!

wasn't the lead singer asked by the Doors to replace Jim Morrison after his death?
