I have been a fan for over 40 years, was going to see him in concert in a few weeks when his passing was announced. I would contend that Sequel is actually better than Taxi, not sure how much of a hot take that is, but the words in the bridge are so meaningful and powerful, you can see his development as a person and artist in it.
I was only four when Harry passed but my dad was a fan. By the time I was in high school, I was sneaking copies of his album of Greatest Stories Live to play up in my room. By the time I graduated in 95, I knew every word to every song I could find at that time and was probably the youngest Chapin fan around. It's very gratifying to see Harry's music being appreciated by young people all over again!
Harry Chapin... Chay-pin... rhymes with hay... extraordinary craftsman and storyteller. Gone way too soon. What should you do next? W.O.L.D! You won't be disappointed.
Greenwich Village folk music cafes sure produced a lot of great poet/musicians, like Harry and his brother Tom. Hearing this as a kid really rocked my world !
👍. I always get a kick out of the music reactors when they mispronounce the groups we grew up with! It's all good! At least they like our music, that they missed growing up! At our age now, We took those songs for granted!
React to the sequel to this song… called “Sequel.” It continues the story of the man and woman in this song. Look for the live one in the channel called ReelinInTheYears66.
Adogg... a couple more oh Harry's songs that I think you'll like. "A Better Place to Be"," Mr. Tanner", and "Mail Order Annie" Live versions are the best, he was an amazing showman.
'A Better Place to Be' and "Mr Tanner' from the Harry Chapin Greatest Story Live album are AMAZING! Will be watching for your reactions to those songs.
Harry wrote about a hundred great story-songs. My favourites are The Rock, Sniper (that one is UNFORGETTABLE), Danceband on the Titanic, Circle, Corey's Coming, and I Wanna Learn a Love Song. Hell, I could just keep naming songs.
I got to see Harry in concert in Central Park, back in the days where NYC was covered in graffiti. Harry talked to his audiences, told us he loved NYC. He said he went down to take the subway and graffitied on the wall was "Harry keep the change." He said "I knew then that I had arrived." I will always miss him. We, his audiences, fell in love with him. He sang dirty songs too that made us laugh til we cried. He was an amazing man. And Adogg, his name is pronounced "Chay-pin." Up next, listen to "Sequel" which is a Taxi part 2! ✌️🎶💙
Same here. It was the song that played on the radio when my first girlfriend and I broke up (and that was 1995!) I was already a huge fan in my high school days, and Taxi has always resonated strongly with me too.
He wrote a sequel to this story, simply called Sequel. Well worth checking out. As are "Better Place To Be" and "Sniper". (And on a lighter note, the silly-but-macabre "30,000 Pounds of Bananas").
Harry had a younger brother named Tom Chapin who did a Saturday morning kids tv show in the 1970's. I think it was called Make a Wish. Tom had no where near the talent of Harry but I thought I would mention the show anyhow for all the old folks out there.
A- Dogg, another Harry Chapin song you definitely should react to should be 30,000 pounds of bananas. It's another great story told by a extraordinary story teller. Also, the song (30,000 pound of bananas) comes from a true story from my hometown of Scranton Pennsylvania. I grew up not to far (maybe less than a mile) from where this incident happened, although before I was born
Another great Chapin song you've gotta check out is W.O.L.D. (the title refers to the call letters of a radio station, like K.T.L.A. or W.G.T.W.). I'm a big fan of Harry's, have been since I was in high school. That was long after he passed away and I was always considered pretty young to be listening to music from the seventies. So it's great to see even younger people picking up on Chapin music. By the way, "Chapin" is pronounced with a long A, like Way-Pin or Say-Pin, you say Chay-pin with the long A.
Hi, began listening to Harry when he first started out and don't think there was one song I didn't enjoy. The music was great be he was such a great story teller. Too sad that he left us so soon. By the way, the A in his last name sounds just as day or way. I enjoy your videos too. :)
Hey Adogg, Harry has so many really great, deep songs to which we can all relate. My favorite song of his is "Story Of A Life" from his "Sequel" album and his best version of the song. Try it out. It's really awesome.
Like LynnB, Harry's death in 1981 was a shock and left me heart-broken. I did manage to see him in concert once. His song, "Sniper" gets into the head of a sniper. I do not know how much of an influence the actions of Charles Whitman was upon Harry when he composed the song, "Sniper." The next time that you learn of a mass shooting in the U.S. by a lone gunman with a rifle, you might think back to Harry's song, "Sniper." On the same album (Sniper and Other Love Songs) is a song titled, "A Better Place to Be." Six words. Also, check out Harry's song, "The Mayor of Candor Lied." "W.O.L.D." is about a DJ.....worth hearing. Definitely listen to Harry's song, "What Made America Famous?" Read what Cash Box said about the song. I cannot close this without recommending "Set Me Free" and "The Deacon Moves in," both sung by Esther Phillips. Yes, the latter is sexist. I can't help myself--check "Reconsider Me" as recorded by Johnny Adams
Listen to "Sniper". It could be ripped right out of today's healines. The event it is based on happenend at the Tower on the University or Texas campus back in the early '60s. His name is pronounced CHAY pin, With a long "a" sound. Thanks for sharing!
Harry was a master story teller, must listen to The Sniper, Mr. Tanner, Better Place To Be, Mail Order Annie and The Dance Band On The Titanic to start. Jim
I hope you listen again with the lyrics to follow along. You will eventually get to Sequel which many will mention. It continues the story and has so many parallels to the original.

Hi Adogg!! Wow, i was surprised to find you here..must've been before politics! I had to listen to some tunes... breaking from Biden bs for a bit. If you haven't heard much of ole Harry.. you'll enjoy the whole album. He was a great singer songwriter! See ya shortly on UA-cam! PS.. Chay pin
If you dare, if you want to be shaken, listen to "Sniper". Then, to regain normalcy react to "A Better Place to Be" as I am sure others have suggested.
This is good if you know the song - it's a wonderful performance and a great reminder of the talent he had, but it really pales in comparison to the studio recording, in a big way.
It is NOT pronounced Choppin. It's pronounced CHAY-pin. Like hay bin. Like say gin. It is definitely NOT choppin. I can't imagine why anyone would tell you that except they were trolling.
It's a shame this song doesn't get the love it deserves. GOD took way too early😢😇 You can tell this was from a long time ago. Today you can't even get into the cab for $2.50. Especially in SF. 4/20😎
This is folk legend Henry Chapin. Personally I find this song is not so great. You’re too polite dude. Worth-while folk artists that I personally love is Peter, Paul and Mary. Check it out. How about doing some Leonard Cohen. The legend. So Long Marianne, Famous Blue Raincoat, Suzanne….. Leonard Cohen is like the « good cutlery ». You don’t take it out for just anything. It’s special. Love this poet /singer. Peace.
This song actually has a sequel... titled "Sequel" which picks up the story about ten years later... great tune!
@@rhinehold4268 I guess only time will tell!
Harry's death in 1981 broke me. He was one of my all-time favourites.
I saw a video of him, recently, where he was going into detail about a car crash....heartbreaking I tell ya. Harry was ours, for awhile..
I was only four when Harry passed but my dad was a fan. By the time I was in high school, I was sneaking copies of his album of Greatest Stories Live to play up in my room. By the time I graduated in 95, I knew every word to every song I could find at that time and was probably the youngest Chapin fan around. He passed in 1982 on his way to a benefit concert.
Harry Chapin... Chay-pin... rhymes with hay... extraordinary craftsman and storyteller. Gone way too soon. What should you do next? W.O.L.D! You won't be disappointed.
This is a beautifully powerful song. He was a wonderful story teller with a haunting voice, filled with sadness and emotion!
Long 'A' on that name Chay-pin. This is a great song. Great story.
Watch the song Harry Chapin does call WOLD Like a radio station
I Think He Would Be Proud To Know That The Harry Chapin Food Banks Are Still Going Strong & Feeding Thousands Of People..R.I.P. Harry🙏❤
Greenwich Village folk music cafes sure produced a lot of great poet/musicians, like Harry and his brother Tom. Hearing this as a kid really rocked my world !
Most ANY song written from Harry is excellent. " A better place to be" is very deep.
Fyi he pronouced his last name chay-pin (rhymes with Jason). Cool story song, glad you found a live version - thanks for the reaction.
There is a sequel out there 10 years after "Taxi Two" ; also you need to check out "30,000 pounds of bananas"
"I've got something inside me to drive a princess blind. There's a wild man wizard, he's hiding in me, illuminating my mind.
Maybe my favorite song lyric of all time. And it has been for 30 years now.
Not pronounced "Choppin." It's pronounced "Cha-ypin." And he's one of the best storytellers ever.
👍. I always get a kick out of the music reactors when they mispronounce the groups we grew up with! It's all good! At least they like our music, that they missed growing up! At our age now, We took those songs for granted!
W.O.L.D. - tale of working in the DJ business....another classic. the A in chapin rhymes with the A in hay. Taxi has always been one of my main faves.
One of the great singer/ story tellers. Right there with Jim Croce.
React to the sequel to this song… called “Sequel.” It continues the story of the man and woman in this song. Look for the live one in the channel called ReelinInTheYears66.
Harry Chapin also had "Mr. Tanner" and "A Better Place To Be."

'A Better Place to Be' and "Mr Tanner' from the Harry Chapin Greatest Story Live album are AMAZING! Will be watching for your reactions to those songs.
And don't forget W.O.L.D. from Greatest Stories Live!
My senior year in high school I sang “Mr. Tanner” in our show choirs end of the year show. 1993
A better place to be is my favorite song.
Harry Chapin's....Morning DJ is another one of his great songs.
W.O.L.D.
Harry wrote about a hundred great story-songs. My favourites are The Rock, Sniper (that one is UNFORGETTABLE), Danceband on the Titanic, Circle, Corey's Coming, and I Wanna Learn a Love Song. Hell, I could just keep naming songs.
I saw him live.
Thank you. This one of my favorite reaction videos, you really liked it. Again thank you
Such a great song.
It's actually "Chay- Pin" Don't sweat it brother, great reaction.

This song always touches me for reasons I have never quite figured out. Ok with that. Choices in life I guess.
Same here. It was the song that played on the radio when my first girlfriend and I broke up (and that was 1995!) I was already a huge fan in my high school days, and Taxi has always resonated strongly with me too.
RIP Harry. Passed away at 38 years old from a car accident 1981.
What would have been Harry's 80th birthday just passed on December 7th.
He wrote a sequel to this story, simply called Sequel. Well worth checking out. As are "Better Place To Be" and "Sniper". (And on a lighter note, the silly-but-macabre "30,000 Pounds of Bananas").
Eric Burdon/When I was Young

An American classis. Killer cello!
Cello in this live version played by Mike Masters and on the original record by Tim Scott.

Definitely listen to the live version of Bananas from Greatest Stories Live for the best effect!
Love ya Adogg! Have a great 2023.🙂❤️😘
I'm sure you'll like this, Adogg. You always say how much you like songs with stories and there was no better story teller than HC.
You need to check out the Rubettes singing Sugar Baby Love. The lead singer hits a note that is super human.
Another great Chapin song you've gotta check out is W.O.L.D. (the title refers to the call letters of a radio station, like K.T.L.A. or W.G.T.W.). Good one.. great American musician 💪🏻🇺🇸
Great reaction - you totally understand.....!
Last name pronounced “chay-pin.” Not “cha-pin.”
Chay, rhyming with “play.”
Hey Adogg,
Harry has so many really great, deep songs to which we can all relate. My favorite song of his is "Story Of A Life" from his "Sequel" album and his best version of the song. Try it out. It's really awesome.
Check his song A Better Place to Be

You'll LOVE Mail Order Annie, Adogg
thus tune kicks my ass everytime....Great react
Harry was a master story teller, must listen to The Sniper, Mr. Tanner, Better Place To Be, Mail Order Annie and The Dance Band On The Titanic to start. Jim
I hope you listen again with the lyrics to follow along.
You will eventually get to Sequel which many will mention. It continues the story and has so many parallels to the original.
Taj Mahal/Aint Nobodys Buiness But My Own
It's chay pin with a long A as in hay
Harry was the best. Do Sequel next.
ChA-pin!
It's a hard A like the a in "say." Harry Chapin was one of the best story tellers ever -- taken away too early in his life.
I'm pretty sure
100% you need to do the sequel TITLED "The Sequel" as stated below from Paul, 10 years in the making.....
Really enjoy your videos… def real
Nobody told stories like Harry. Try his songs:
Mr. Tanner
Better Place To Be
The Rock
Sniper
Corey’s Coming
Tangled Up Puppet
I believe it's pronounced "chay-pin", not like choppin' vegetables.
Chay-pin. Please react to “A better place to be” amazing storyteller!
I enjoyed this video thanks

PS.. Chay pin
It is a long A, pronounced CHAY-pin
Chay pen
If you dare, if you want to be shaken, listen to "Sniper". Then, to regain normalcy react to "A Better Place to Be" as I am sure others have suggested.
Good musician, but you definitely did his two best
It's chay-pin
Love taxi by Chapin you should listen 200,000 pounds of bananas by Chaplin. It's an excellent song.
Wow, that would be like listening to 30,000 Pounds of Bananas like six and a half times in a row! lol ;)
@@miketocci lol! You got me! Your right but awesome song.
Pronounced Chay pin hard A
Adogg, it's pronounced Chay-Pin.
This is good if you know the song - it's a wonderful performance and a great reminder of the talent he had, but it really pales in comparison to the studio recording, in a big way.
It's pronounced ChApin.
The music and the drugs were better in the 60's and 70's.
I can only attest to the music as I was born, too late, in '77!
It is NOT pronounced Choppin. It's pronounced CHAY-pin. Like hay bin. Like say gin. It is definitely NOT choppin. I can't imagine why anyone would tell you that except they were trolling.
It’s chay-pin not choppin
Still got it wrong. Chapin is pronounced "Chay-pin"
It's a shame this song doesn't get the love it deserves.
GOD took way too early😢😇
You can tell this was from a long time ago. Today you can't even get into the cab for $2.50. Especially in SF.
4/20😎
sorry bro still pronouncing it wrong
try chay fin
You think this live version is good but it is actually crap compared to the utter perfection of the original album version!
Or the excellent version that's on Greatest Stories Live. Those two are tied in my opinion for bet version of Taxi.
Great storyteller gone too soon
Chapin is pronounced with a long "A" sound, not your short "a" sound. Come on, respect the artist and get the name right.
