I am a musician and play Harry's songs every show. I don't care if the younger crowd doesn't know him or even the older crowd. This man was great and had great music! Keep his music and Harry going! He will never be not remembered. At least for me. I had the great chance of meeting him 3 times. Such a loss!!!!! :))))))

He passed away about one week after we met. It was summer 81, my friend and I were misbehaving in the back seat, while Harry was driving. This was during the filming for a movie that never was. Thankfully Harry put out the album and song with the same name. Vacancy! Today there’s a vacancy in many of our hearts, who were touched by his music.

I never got to meet him... I was 5 when he passed away. But my parents were huge fans of his, so his music was a large part of my childhood. The stories he told became such an indelible part of my life and are part of the reason I ended up on the path I'm on, telling stories and making music. Harry will always be one of my personal heroes. Thank you for keeping his music alive. His music was special and touched people and I'm happy there are people that play it in their shows to introduce it to new people :)

It makes me very sad to know Harry's gone, he was a kind and generous man, he gave away most of his wealth to help others, definitely the good do die young. Rest well Harry, you're missed and loved by millions.

The world is a sadder place without Harry. He was one of a kind. He spoke the words to Sequel to us at a show in Jersey City. Told us he was working on it as a sequel to Taxi and asked us what we thought. Even without music, it was stunning.

Man what he said at the beginning he's so true I'm 56 years old back in 1983 I was 18 I knew a girl who was 15 I screwed up all these years later she gets back in touch with me through Facebook but she's kind of quiet but yet not blocking me allowing me to talk and spill my mind in my heart I can still feel the heartache of back then we live in two different states now

Harry did us a disservice. Had he lived another year he might have recorded a sequel to Cats In The Cradle, a song every father and son wanted - BEGGED him - to provide closure for. Many cried when Harry died, among them my sister who saw him in concert four times. But many more are better nourished because he lived.

I went to one of the first "Toys For Tots" concerts in Rochester, NY, and Harry Chapin was supposed to play, but his flight was snowed in in NYC, which was not surprising, since we had 2 feet of snow on the ground in Rochester and it was still snowing. A local jazz musician, Chuck Mangione ( a star in his own right), and his brother Gap played instead, for hours and hours. I never did get to see Chapin perform, as he was killed in that automobile accident in 1981. To this day I am still hit with a wave of sadness whenever I think about it. Seeing him here caused me to "tear up" once again. Thanks, I think.🙄

Thank you sharing that. I was so profoundly moved by his music. The first was Taxi in high school I had a boyfriend and while going to school he drove Taxi at night so this was our song. I remember the first time we I heard ti. Swept away. Soulful and deeply moving story. Beautiful song. What an artist. All these years later I never knew there was a sequel. So happy to hear this tonight.

I am happy that I got to see Harry and his brothers in concert back in 1978 in Pullman WA. Not only did the crowd have a good time but you could tell that Harry and his band did as well. "Why did it take so long for you to invite us here? Goddamn it we had a blast" was how he summed things up after their second encore.

My mother passed in 1982 at the young age of 33 to cancer. I was 11... I often listened to Harry during that year. It was nothing more than available on the old stereo console, 8 track i believe, but it passed time of tears and lack of understanding. Harry's music will always be in my heart. I'm 53 now....

This is the sequel to the song that states the fact that a man has only one love of his life and whether it works out and they spend their lives together or it doesn't neither time or distance will ever change it. I know all to well. the reasons my two failed marriages is deep down I lost the one true love of my life in 1986 and I have nor will I ever get over it .

I loved harry's music. Greatest Stories Live was a most favorite album by him of mine. I can't think of any song by him I didn't like. Just too sad he left us. I think he was driving? Drunk/speeding, not sure. So those those who ignore his songs are just cheating themselves. I still can't believe that I heard this song for the first time a few days ago; I probably missed it because I was overseas at the time. Yet, why didn't I hear about it later? Well Harry, r U singing for Jesus now?

Rear ended by a semi. His VW Gulf was going very slow abd caught fire. He had a heart attack but the authorities weren't sure if it caused the accident or was caused by the accident. No drugs or alcohol involved. He was either going to or returning from one of his numerous benefit concerts. When I heard, I felt like I'd lost a friend.

This song was written about a cab driver in Burlington Vermont named Tom Bishop. He was a friend of Harry's and a friend of mine. It's a true story, but the words changed to fit the song. Harry played this song for one of the very first times at Tom's house. I was there, Tom and his wife were there, and Harry was there. The next day, he played the song for the first time live, before he ever recorded it at a show in NYC. He's greatly missed

Interesting Harry wrote this sequel . One of the few and I mean few that could do something like this and both parts fit together like Chapin never lost a beat between them . Though these song's , Taxi and Sequel , I'm sure he had written sequel at the same time of the original Taxi . I guess only his wife and family could confirm that . Recording Sequel years later , such a great conclusion to his story telling on this prose .
