I’ve used your technique and it works like gold every time. I literally have watched 100’s of videos and still go back to your technique. Much love Holly ❤
I started making my own woolies a few months ago and I'm hooked! I am having issues with tension rash around my edge in the back. That's my only complaint with them. You do amazing work I can't wait for more videos 💜
Thanks you! Making them is like soul food for me, very relaxing! Two thoughts on your tension rash: its usually about sectioning/pulling of the hair. You might be pulling in too many baby hairs or your sections are too small for the weight of the loc. Some people do Single-Ended around the edges of the hairline to help with this. Personally, I just do bigger sections at my nape. When I install on others, I leave their small baby hairs out at the nape for this specific reason. Play with it a bit and see what makes a difference for you. Good luck!
@@hollysdreadfulcolors187 I left out some baby hairs, and also used single ended. My hair is pretty fine though so next time I'll try bigger sections. Thank you for the advice
Hey Holly. Great video! I'll be very interested in seeing a video about single ended woolies. Happy to see your content, keep up the good work and thank you from all of us that are interested in creating 💖 -Emily
Super helpful i mainly want to make these as cyberlox dread falls if that makes any sense lol. My hair is super long so i just want to make like a Band have the dreads sewed onto the band and stuff like that to tie up on My hair. Like cyber goth look lol. Ive seen the exact ones I wanted on hair from hell. But they are really expensive. I can see why ..its alot of work. Youve make such beautiful dreads i admire your skills and patience. Thank you for sharing ❤
I’m literally just starting and these videos I have watched are the first ones and I have my supplies but I have a dumb question that I don’t seem to hear or see the answer to but hear the terminology frequently…what is done to make them “fully felted”? The initial how to videos specifically say that are not fully felted but nothing about what it means or how to do fully felt and I haven’t seen anywhere after that…I’d like to start but that is the one single person Eve of info I can’t seem to find here it I want to stick with your tutorials so I’m hoping that could be explained? Thank you! I’m so excited and so grateful for these how to videos! 😊
Hi Holly, how many times do you roll the Lincoln to get beachy waves? Or is there a better wool for looser curls? Have you ever tried Vegan alternatives eg. Hemp/flax? Lots of questions! Great video! Very informative🙏🏼Thank you so much ❤
Hi! So to get wavy/kinky textures you not be doing anymore rolling. Once you do the initial roll, you will then do different manipulations of the wool. Such as a rubbing it between your hands. I will be doing another video to show some ways to make texture! I have not tried any vegan fibers yet. I can look into it for a future video 😊
Thank you so much for this info! I have a question… if you were making sharpie thick bumpy with Icelandic, how many pieces would you divide it into? Thanks 😊
You might have to do a couple tester pieces. So if generally(not always) quarters would make pencil thin, then 3rds or just half would create thicker. If I were doing it, I always do a tester sectioning. Roll, dry and see how it looks once it's dried. You wouldn't need to fully felt it...just rolled enough to see how thick.itll be.
Super helpful! For your permanent extensions did you cut a double ended in half and crochet it in? I'm wanting to do the same, but I'm not sure the best way to do it with wool
I did not and I do not recommend doing it that way even though it seems practical. You will want to create permanent locs to crochet in by leaving 2-3 inches of wool unfelted..so the fibers are easy to pull through with a crochet hook. You could cut a DE in half and TRY to comb it out but in my experience, if it's well felted it won't work well. I suggest starting from scratch and leave an end unfelted. Check out my fb pagefacebook.com/profile.php?id=100090641751968&mibextid=ZbWKwL I have a pic of what mine looked like before install and feel free to send me a message there for any tips or advice!
Sorry another question. With the braid, did you do an initial roll for each little section? As I've done that with merino but not sure if its the way to go with the lincoln. :)
One more question. I’m mixing my own Fallon hair into the dreads for a more natural look. Will that make felting harder? Would it work to get a natural hair look?
So natural human hair does not felt...if you want to mix..you'll need to use a crochet hook or felting needle to make sure the two fibers adhere. It is a bit of work and probably some trial and error! Once you feel like the dry wool and hair is crocheted enough..then you can use a water and soap combo to felt the wool
@@hollysdreadfulcolors187 kinda like making an extension with wool. It would be time consuming. But this is a personal set and project. If it takes me a few days that’s cool. I figured I would have to mix them before felting. I just want a few hairs in ear maybe 10-20. Enough to show hair texture. If that makes sense
@@hollysdreadfulcolors187 so I did a few test pieces. A few beard dreads and a long lux end. They came out so good. The human hair combination with the wool felted together first process. I can’t putt them apart. It work better then I thought. And they look so natural. I’ll have to send you some pictures on Facebook. Still have to dye them. Does mordant hurt human hairs?
Roving wool works no matter where you get it BUT Temu is a data gathering app and is more about getting your info than supplying you with quality merchandise. I highly recommend getting wool off Etsy shops. Some are fairly priced and you are helping small business owners also.
@ketoendogirl when they are not on your head, put them in a bowl of warm/hot water with soap. Swish em around a bit. If they are smooth dreads, use a towel on a table and palm roll each one....if they are textured, just put them in your hand bunched up, you don't need to manipulate them at all..just wring them out and hang them to dry. If ou are referring to while wearing them (between washes) use a spray bottle with water and your favorite essential oil and just mist them when you feel like they need refreshing! Hope that helps
Yes, Merino is known for creating smooth/straight locs....but I personally also like Falkland wool..as you can roll it straight and make it textured. The downside is it doesn't come pre-dyed so you'd need to learn how to dye your wool
May have missed it elsewhere, but can you explain yoursoap/water mix in more detail? What kind of soap are you using, and how much per oz/bottle? I typically wash/wear both KK and wool lox with an anti-residue/clarifying shampoo, but your specificity of "soap" not "shampoo" makes me think we're talking about different things. I make my own KK dreads, but am interested in making my own woolies, so this would be very helpful to know. Thanks in advance!
So this is not a precise part. I usually use Dawn dish soap and I just drizzle some in the bottle...enough so you get lots of bubbles when you shake it. same with thr bowls. You could even drizzle a bit more...but you want it to get nice and soapy and you will figure out the right amount for you as you play around
I used variations of RIT dyes for that set. Acid dyes work best for wool. Once you purchase an acid dye, go with the instructions for that specific product bur in general its a combo of hot water, dye and vinegar/citric acid and dish soap!
Hey! Firstly, if you can, ask the maker of your set to see what they recommend for washing. What I tell my customers is it's safe to wash these with any shampoos you use. You can wash them while you wear them, I work on my scalp and pull the shampoo down through the woolies. Rinse, squeeze. They will get heavy bur once you wring them out that get lighter. They take a bit to dry. You can also wash these after you take them out. In cold/lukewarm soapy water. Soap could be a Shampoo or as easy as Dawn dish soap. I hope this helps!
You want to give yourself about 3-5 inches from raw (unfelted). It'll get longer once rolled and felted BUT it will lose length if you are giving it texture.
