    Thank you so much for not gatekeeping !!! I’ve made a straight regular pair I’ve worn for ten years but no one explains how to match the textured ones I want to do myself!!! 😊

    Sorry for a late reply. Lincoln wool felts well in every felting method. If you left the ends unfelted, they would eventually felt themselves. It wouldnt be like luxe ends. The good part about hand manipulations is you have complete control over what the texture will be. Roll it a bit then check it. If you want more, roll some more!

    I find using the wash board alone, tends to create more of a looser wave....and the hand manilulations allow you to have more control and create less or more texture. Lincoln works well with any method! So i dont find leaving roving wool unfelted reallt creates a loose end. It will create a puffier end..that will eventually felt up a bit. You can achieve leaving an end unfelted though! You just dont roll that part..and leave it hanging out of your hands when manipulating the other parts.

      I ended up getting some locks, but they're a little curlier than I wanted so I'm going to experiment with them first to see if I like it :) Also, with the washboard ones you were doing did you dip them in cold water after too? or just wring them out to dry?

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187
      @hollysdreadfulcolors187  Рік тому

      @kerrylouise7555 some of the more available wool locs can be super curly..like wensleydale and teesewater. They are the easiest to fine but have tight curls. I did dipnthat set I did in the wash board into cold water. It just helps to make sure that texture you just created maintains!

    hi, for the Lincoln wool is the washboard method better or can you do the rolling that your assistant is doing? also, for Lincoln wool can you leaves the ends a little unfelted instead of adding locks, and would that hold when you wash them a bunch while wearing them? Oh and how long should you manipulate them for to get nice loose waves?

    What kind of wool did you use for the set you did in the washboard bowl with the little luxe ends? ❤ Also what do you recommend using for luxe ends? Mohair?

      I used Lincoln roving wool and short Suri Alpaca locs. You can use a sorts of locs because they also have different textures. It also depends how long you want them. Teesewater locs are super curly and long...Suri Alpaca come in short and long bundles.

    Can you create texture to wool dreads that have already been felted together, or would they be similar to real dreads, where you can braid them or manipulate them but the texture would “wash away” when washed?

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187
      @hollysdreadfulcolors187  Рік тому +1

      If they are naturally textured, you probably could manipulate more texture into them using hot water and soap.

  • @TheBlueeyedbrat
    @TheBlueeyedbrat Рік тому

    Also does the texture stay if you wash them in the shower or does it fall out?

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187

      Regardless of what texture you are looking for...hot water and soap is how you will felt it into shape. So If you want straight/smooth woolies, I still suggest you do a once roll with the spray bottle for shape..then dip/soak them in very hot soapy water..then just roll them again to get them nice and felted. I will say this, everyone make these a little differently. If you'd rather they not be tightly felted..and more puffy, then you will want to play with what works best for you 😊

    So do you dye them after?? I tried dying my newest set and one color (deep grey) worked but the deep dark red only turned mauve. Wich is super dissapointing because i just took out a whole mauve set. So much for my spooky season set

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187
      @hollysdreadfulcolors187  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Yes! I dye them after they are fully felted. When dyeing, make sure you get getting the water nice and hot, adding enough vinegar/citric acid and leaving them in for a time recommended for the dye you are using. Oh! And make sure you are using acid dyes! Hey...mauve could actually be very spooky in the right color combo! Also, you can redye until you get the right color. Keep in mind though, with very hot water wool can shrink a bit. Some kinds more than others. Have fun!

      @@hollysdreadfulcolors187 i thought I purchased an acid dye but it turned out to be percrion(?) Dye but the description on Amazon said it could be used as acid dye but just adding acid to it. I wound up using my whole dye stock along with probably half a cup of vinegar in my old crock pot on high. Idk what happened but I'm probably going to try again next time I take them out to move up. Thanks again for your help, I can't wait for more videos!! And say hi to your little helper for me she's adorable 💜

      Amazon, hand washboard basin. I'd get one a bit deeper if you can, I have realized that the one I have I a bit shallow and only good for small amounts of locs at a time..otherwise I make a mess with the water!

      So sorry for my delayed response! 16 oz/1lb of wool will give you a full set (with a little extra for trial and error) full sets should be a bit less than 1lb in weight.

      @brizee111389 Hi! Any shampoo works...stay away from harsh chemicals and try to use sulfate and paraben free in general. Mostly keep it on your scalp and just gently squeeze it into your locs. Always refer to the maker if you can, to see what they recommend!
