I connected two colors together. The brown wool is Icelandic the white wool is Masham. As you can see the Masham is drying crimpy already without any manipulations! Some wool is like this and makes creating texture a lot easier than other types!!

    I follow you religiously in my journey as i start to make dread woolies lol i got the felting board finally but started with just a towel but only half of the dreads seem to fully felt, even after 5 attempts and their about pencil thick, any advice? I'm using merino wool

      @felicitykomosumee3663 hmm..this might be because of the Merino wool itself. It takes a few rolls to get fully felted. Make sure your water is pretty dang hot (but not boiling) and super soapy. Roll with plenty of pressure. I hope this hehelps. If not it really is the kind of wool. It's not as easy to fully felt

    Ive been wearing synthetic dreads and I've been told to detox them before every where. Soaking in water and apple cider vinegar for an hour then rinse and hang to dry. Would you suggest this being done before each wear? Or is soap/shampoo and water enough before install?

      @brittanysheeran8936 you can definitely use Merino roving to make wool dreadlocks. Its a good beginner wool because it already comes predyed in lots of colors. It can be a little tougher to fully felt and generally creates a smooth/straight texture.

    This is the first video I have watched about making locs and i have no knowledge of working with fabric. My question is, what happens if you mix the different kinds of wool? Assuming you can do that. I'm imagining the rake type thing that I've seen in the past for mixing fibers. Have you experimented with mixing different wool, and if so what did you find out works and doesn't work?

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187
      @hollysdreadfulcolors187 7 місяців тому

      @@keahbawesome I have not experimented with mixing wool fibers but I have a friend who does! They are trying to create wool combos that can be kinky (which tend to be coarser wool that shed a lot) with soft and smooth so woolies can be made for more sensitive skin! I have a lot on my plate, so this is not something I am interested in doing. It does require carding brushes/machines.

      I buy most of my Wool off Etsy shops. Some of my favorites is beesyBeeFibers, Hearthsidefibers and Mohairandmore. Looks under the tabs "undyed wool" if you look at the pre-dyed wool it's mainly Merino Wool and/or Corriedale. Those are generally for smooth/straight woolies. Corriedale does create a bumpy/knobby texture and might be a good starer wool if you aren't ready to learn how to dye them.

    • @hollysdreadfulcolors187
      @hollysdreadfulcolors187 8 місяців тому

      So natural human hair does not felt...if you want to mix..you'll need to use a crochet hook or felting needle to make sure the two fibers adhere. It is a bit of work and probably some trial and error! Once you feel like the dry wool and hair is crocheted enough..then you can use a water and soap combo to felt the wool
