You are right. I bought the Larson one and got drawn in. Had to have them all! Great vid. One day I will be brave enough to run cars without magnets. 😅
Terrific video sir! I was in the fence until I watched this and have just pulled the trigger and ordered all 4 D132. I need to perform a similar experiment with my older DTM cars. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺
Great review and experiment Dave! Will be good to see how they run when you get the new tires and some weight added and the magnets out. Looks like it will make for a good iroc! Thank you for the shout out!
What a super video, Dave! FYI I have those cars. I've only opened one so far. I decided to make these my iroc cars to copy you. I've only had my Carrera Digital set since last July and so far have only run Carrera Digital cars w stock tires. I do the newbie tune on them but thats all. I don't have a tire truer like yours. But my plan is to get some bobkat tires as they'll just fit, truing not required. He's got a video on how he prepared the wheels... I recommend it. Anyway I was thinking of making them all no magnets but adding some weights in the front like you did in another video. For now it's all just my plan. Seeing your video was great and super timely. Thanks!
Hi Dave, I purchased Ally 48 and after initial run did some tyre true, lube etc. I found the car was a bit top centre regarding gravity so has a tendency of rolling when changing direction. Also when night racing the disappointing feature is no lights, so will not buy anymore.
A small amount of lead weight in the no-mag car should help to make it more drivable. Fit some Staffs wheels and aftermarket tyres and they will drive even much better.
i would agree from what your showing they are very detailed . thus possibly give Carrera more licensing of NASCAR going forward.🤔😉 liking magnet challenge between cars great idea. thank you for sharing with us Dave.
Maybe they used Raptor paint? I have the 5, and the 24 analog, the other 2 are in the digital set, which I will get later on in the year. I do have a couple of digital chips for the other two, for when the time comes 😊
Dave the shims do make a difference I’ve got an old Carrera Ford Torino that had a sliding setup on the middle magnet. You could lower the magnet or raise it to adjust the magnetic pull Are the chips you using permanent for these cars or do you take them out and use them for other cars? 🍻
These will stay in as it's going to be a digital IROC class to go alongside my RS3100 Capri IROC class so we can have more variety of cars when there's 4 of us racing
Picked up the Napa livery last week. Great looking car, but little did I know the Carrera guide doesn't play well with some of my Scalextric Sport curves. Doing a swap out when after-market guides arrive.
there should be a scalextric friendly guide in the back panel of the box it's red, if you're running digital scaley though you might want to colour it black with a Sharpie
@ I really don’t know, the last I heard anything about that, it was just speculation. Honestly I haven’t really been keeping up, because you lot keep putting out content. lol
@ yeah I guess we'll know on race day. On the subject of showing the good ole boys how it's done, 1st Feb Kern Raceway California, Team GB vs Team USA international Speedway (bikes not cars) Test Match 😁
Hi Dave. Carrera did change the tire material, as annonced last year on the live strem with Carrera by That Slotcar Guy. All latest cars I got, had the same hard tires on them. As well, as the magnets upside down in them. Carrera is getting more and more bad in their productions. LIke I mentioned often before. they seem to not listen to their customers any more, but to the mighty money profits.
The Coca Cola badge reference at 3:18. An earlier use on a slot car that I have to hand is the Australian release Scalextric c3672 Escort Mk 1 of Alan Moffat about nine years ago. Rotating car vid on the tube here showing the multiple Coke sponsor markings on the front and rear mudguards. Earlier still was a Scalextric model of his Coca Cola Mustang a few years after the Trans Am Mustangs were released in the early 2000s. A very dominant car in Australiaa racing. Don't have the Mustang immediately to hand so can't quote a C number. Another Australian market livery Scalextric car with much more prominent Coca Cola markings.
Yes these are great and a well balanced modern car looking design. As with real NASCAR, which I understand is circuit lit, this genre does not have LED lights in distinction against Carrera's GT3 range. Instead the lights are 'painted on' for authenticity. They seem to run very much like their GT3 siblings and yes, and as with most brands, they are an IROC or else a law unto themselves which, I suppose, is why Carrera came out with these four liveries. In terms of fit and finish then Carrera is certainly one of the more impeccable and reliable quality control brands. We do know the Germans and Austrians put a good deal more work and energy into documenting their materials and methods and this right down to the precise chemical mix of their paint and laquer sprays. I for one would be most interested to know how they go about producing the mainly purple 'Bowman' No 48 car which I did initially like best. Now I am not so sure. They are all great. Yes, they do need new rears to bring them to life and I believe these are already available in the States? Maybe 'Slot Invasion' red after market guides too to finish off? Overall a great way to get you back into gear and kick the new year off. Is it a month since your Christmas advent sessions already?
The napa one looks sweet! I like the carrera cars with the front magnet only because they handle nice but you can slide them around the corners with control to keep them in the slot. The tires on them I thought were pretty good because they are pretty wide and for some reason they felt a little softer to me than my other carrera cars? Who knows? but you should try massaging some WD40 into the rear tires and let it kind of dry in and you should get better traction and on different rubber tires it can really increase traction like crazy and on others not nearly as much. I been using the wd40 for my RC cars tires for over 20 years it works wonders. I have not bothered using it that much at all with my policar track because the rubber tires seem to grab really good to it compared to when I had my carrera track. Give the wd40 a try let it soak on for a while see how it does since no better tires are available yet for these. 👍👍Nice video.
Yeah you have the policar grip, they're really not great tyres. The last few scalextric cars have improved the compound it's the thing carrera lag behind on.
@slotr not sure, but I paid you a nice compliment about this nascar video...maybe the mention of carerra needs to take note of your wisdom , and new slotcar Hobbits should be steered to your channel.. things like that. ,
@@Dafingers1 Hi Brother, this happened last friday to me twice. Both comments were lost, but no gutter words of something in the comments. Don`t know what YT is up on that!?
Thanks for the vide, Dave. Very interesting. As a "non-mag" person, sorry Pete, I was having a lot of trouble driving these things even with Paul Gage Tires. I took one of my RevoSlot magnets and added that just in front of the motor. It added just enough downforce without feeling like I was overdoing it. My thought being the magent was narrower may only assist a small bit. Have you noticed these cars wanting to roll? It may be my driving style, but I had a lot of issues with that too which I solved with just a bit of weight added to the very edges.
Greetings Dave, a few comments… -Thanks for the informative video regarding the Carrera NEXTGEN NASCARS. When they were released, there was a lot of buzz and people posting photos of their new cars. To my knowledge HWR and you are the only videos I’ve seen discussing performance and/or track tests, reviews, tuning tips and opinions. I had already decided to run them with the rear magnet removed. -I have many Carrera cars, primarily GT3 and DTMs and I run them all the same, rear magnet removed and aftermarket trued urethane rear tires. In my opinion, they run well that way, as you stated, kind of middle of the road control. Running completely magless results in fishtailing around my layout, no fun in that. I guess that’s due to Carrera cars being designed to run with magnets with very little chassis tuning options. Thanks again for the video (you got my thumbs up). If I ever have the opportunity to visit the UK again, perhaps a kebob, some fish n chips and a Caffery’s Ale will be on the agenda. Happy Slotting.
Carrera seem to design wheel hubs so that no other makes of existing tyres will fit. Especially for newer release cars. Caused a lot of anger with these cars for an IROC type class in our race group since we got the cars in September. Rather than wait for aftermarket tyres to become available one in our group cast his own Urethane tyres to fit, for this class to run acceptably.

Not these ones, you need some revoslots on your channel 😁😁
Thanks for the demonstration Dave. Very informative and fun to see all the different variables in action for comparison. Great Slot Car video sir!
Terrific video sir! I was in the fence until I watched this and have just pulled the trigger and ordered all 4 D132. I need to perform a similar experiment with my older DTM cars. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺
Interesting comparison with and without magnets. Nice middle ground and it works!!! Good video
Hi Dave, great comparison video. I've also found middle mag only to be the most fun for my Carrera cars, even better with urethane tyres.
Great review and experiment Dave! Will be good to see how they run when you get the new tires and some weight added and the magnets out. Looks like it will make for a good iroc!

Thanks for doing this. I found it very interesting.
Nice collection Dave, not that you’re a collector!! I love that Raptor, I need some NASCAR in my life! Brave mentioning the ‘M’ word again!
Funny thing is I'd shot this video but not edited it together before Magnet Pete put his video out
Thanks Dave for showing this video you have helped me out tremendously appreciate your videos keep up the good work
Thanks for sharing Dave, I got the same one Car for Christmas, and now I want the other three also my friend lol.😊🏎️🏎️🏎️
I did not expect you to get all 4… well played. I have yet to do a video about my Chase Elliott.. it looks fantastic!
How can you not have all four? 😊
@daleander1 I know right, may as well just do them as a pack
As usual,, quite informative!
Looking forward to mid February 😎🤩💁🏽♂️
if I ever manage to set foot in the US, I'm not leaving until I've been to a NASCAR race
@ yup cancelling my Vegas trip this year, I hear that lol
Interesting comparison and food for thought for testing my cars. Not a Carrera fan, so as good as they look I'm unlikely to purchase any.

But nascars don't have lights
@slotr I know but it still lends to no drama if night racing with friends 😢
A small amount of lead weight in the no-mag car should help to make it more drivable. Fit some Staffs wheels and aftermarket tyres and they will drive even much better.
Carrera are doing a great body detail thats for sure I’m tempted 👍👍
I have the green Raptor Nascar for my Carrera Go track. Still deciding which car I want next.
if they're managed to do the Bowman car in as much detail with that body wrap at the smaller scale that's going to be stunning
Ok, I stand corrected, the Raptor car seams to be the best😊

Car48 where are you? Nice to know they've all been pre-crashed before I come round 😂
its a big diffrent with the magnet installed the right way, i just get 3 new cars and som was wrong
seems to be random right now as to which way round any car is doesn't it?
Seems like you’ve got the Goldilocks cars.
Leave the magnets in, if you want more realistic handling of these cars
in the dry on an oval yes, you seen them on street circuits? I don't have an oval :)
@ yeah, the Chicago race is my favourite to watch, especially when a Australian super car driver shows up, to show the good ole boys how it’s done :)
