Half day is 12 hours...can’t tell you how many times I heard on Saturday...lol . Good video
1:24 - very funny :D
Be careful when that slag starts cooling it pops off there like little bullets shots right at you
Especially on the outside of pipe yeeeeouch, and they stick to skin like siht to a blanket.
For me seems to have blastic eye tracking system (gets right in my eye )
Oh yes they love sticking to eyelids.
Yep- never trust staino slag!
Yeah that shit stays hot for a long time to
I got thrown into stainless 3g 2 weeks ago, I had to watch this video on break and it helped immensely. I picked it up in a matter of hours but I was skilled with 7018 and other rods/processes previously. End of day 2 there was a crowd gathered around my weld with a head pointing at it and everyone getting in there and eyeing it with props given. Overhead is a whole DIFFERENT animal from there! I need advice on that, do another video if the price of steel ever comes back down and keep welding brother, thanks a bunch!
IWL8
Overhead 309 stainless is about the same as 7018 just favor your top piece more
IW597
Gotta love that stainless, I've ran alot of stainless short arc and fluxcore and that puddle just ain't the same . Like you said it's a whole other beast
I want to personally thank you for this video on stainless vertical up. I have never welded stainless steel before and I was told last week Friday that I need to test for stainless steel and carbon mix weld (dissimilar metal) on Tuesday and I was at a totally lost. Well the short of the story is this, you saved the day. I watched this video and I was able to pass the test in one shot. I could hear you throughout the test - 1 2 1 2 1 2. Worked like a charm. Thanks man, you now have brother in Canada👍.
If you really have a test do not use this guys techniques for welding. Seriously.
Your cut scenes are goofy and great. Still has the educational substance there. Appreciate your work and sharing your work with the world.
Keep it up. And keep that beard safe.
video4sissies thanks, I appreciate your support.
I think it's a genuine safety beard, an a rare one. They are hard to find in red...or so I heard....😁
Kristian Skov very rare indeed.
Thank you. I have learnt something new about vertical weld in stick welding from you. Good Teacher!!!🙂👍🏾
I appreciate you covering this topic Jason I have to weld vertical lifting pad eyes on big magnese wear steel parts for crushers in a quarry and my welds would always come out like turkey turds I did not know what I was doing wrong or right this definitely helps a tremendous amount .
Keep the great videos coming and please keep us posted on Bob
Ken Brownlee thanks man, hope it helps. Bob will be back soon.
WELDING COMEDY AT IT'S BEST!! - - & YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING ON TOP OF THAT!! - - EDUCATIONAL & ENTERTAINING!! - - BY CHANCE ARE YOU RELATED TO 'RED' SKELTON?? LMFAO!!
Nope but I’m a big fan of his work.
Yes, you could make a living doing stand up!
Peace Love thanks maybe I’ll give it a try.
I trust a fart more than I trust a stainless puddle.
Juste à quick thank you from France. I tried to learn stainless rod on my own and it gave me nightmares. I couldn't read or understand the puddle, took me half a day (same half as your boss XD) to start to understand it.
I am getting little better weld after weld. So thanks for the video and the sharing.
Keep it up.
That looks very good.
Cheers for sharing mate. I’ve never seen anyone do a continuous stainless vertical up weld. I do a continuous stop/start if that makes sense. This is a lot quicker though and offers more control. Definitely something I will be practicing. 👍
1royalwolf it makes sense. I’ve done it like that in the past. Keep practicing man, you’ll get it 🤘🔥
Good tutorial. Looking forward to a video of welding a schd 20 s/s pipe in a positional weld.
I’ve welded on many different types of metals using different types of welding processes 14 ua welding certifications brazing and hard facing also thrown in there and I can tell you stainless steel SMAW vertical might be the hardest I’ve run. This is some good info.
Dripping snot? I've gotta try that stuff. I've only GTAW stainless and it's a bit different than mild steel.
I've done a triangle method for the first 3 then do half timing of one second sweeps side to side with half the upward travel speed. It leaves a tighter profile and it works for me. SS welder for 5 years, 308,309,316 and 2209. Hope it helps and God bless.
Same
Great video how’s Bob doing?
I've never used stainless welding rods with my everlast welder. Might be something I need to try.
Can you make a video on running 309L on ss pipe to mild steel uphill. That was a tough one for me.
bob moffatt ever coming back?
yeah sometime during fall he said
Should be early fall
Hope it's soon!
I actually like the new blood.
More Stainless Welding Videos please!
Coming right up 🤘🔥
Thank god! This is exactly what I needed! Can you guys do a video on stainless mig welding? I know there's an older one but it doesn't have the quality information that the channel provides nowadays
Sure.
Zachary Kemp it’s been a while but I think we can put something together.
@@GodslilRedneck23 that's awesome. I'm sure for you it doesn't matter how long it's been haha it'll still come out on point!
Zachary Kemp thanks man. I’ll give it a shot.
Yeah we're doing more stainless stick and mig because well, they're difficult and used more and more with natural gas power plants, refinery work and a reemergent steel and aluminum industry. I really like stainless fluxcore, inconel clad welding, and anything aluminum. They don't know but we have inconel now. Things are about to get real.
Love the content👍
That looks like fun! Never ran any stainless stick.
Kevin Lee it’s definitely a challenge.
I have a can of 308L stainless rods. I have found they remind me of 7024 in the way they run smoothly (consistent arc) and build up (they love to build up). Very similar also to MG500 as well, though the MG500 is easy to get worm tracks, unlike the stainless 308L. Stainless has it’s own rules for sure. Like how you said let the slag cool. Most people are like whatever I’ll chip it when I’m done, it chips fine..... uh yeah that’s not why you wait. “Why is is blue and purple “. I dunno, chipper.
Lextech Lighting 😂
Great video I’m always a year or two behind on the good ones
Dat looks fantastic
good video, and great humor!
That was very informative Jason. Now try a welding a 1/4" thick plate to 10 Ga sheet vertical up, not burn through and get a nice bead profile using 3/32 electrode. Easy to do with mild steel and 7018 not so with stainless if find.
55 amps and run 🏃♂️ with it. Works for me.
I will try to do this technique, thank you for the video. God bless you 🙏🙏🙏
Watch that slag with stainless. It will pop off and fly 4-5 foot as it cools but it will be hot enough to burn the pee out of you. Scars to prove it! I found myself holding my shirt collar shut and backing up slowly out of habit while watching this excellent video. Going to hit the like button after that bead cools down a bit.
Stainless stick is not easy. 7018 is easy compared to this.
Okay thanks for the tips looking forward to 309 stick 3g root-cap
C2TR ran some today for practice. I’m sure we will be able to do a video of it soon.
@@GodslilRedneck23 im excited for that
He made that look easy. Thin stainless tubing (304L - 065) project I did took me 3 times longer than expected and scared me off the stuff. Not the cheapest stuff to screw up. I would love to see you guys do a SMAW video on something similar.
paul norris what diameter did you use? I had to do some thin wall hydraulic fittings when I was in Kuwait, they turned out pretty decent.
@@GodslilRedneck23 1/16 & 3/32 309L electrodes. Had a few nasty blowouts. Wasn't structural or food grade so I ground and filled.
paul norris 1/16 should work. Just drop the amps and move quick.
@@GodslilRedneck23 That ended up being the most used electrode. It laid a thin bead but worked with very tight fitup. I did have blowout issues using it on outside corner of 2, 45's and had to weld less than an inch per pass everywhere. The 3/32 worked better if the fit wasn't perfect or filling in blowouts.
Hey good skills there red stainless vert is not easy we run them a little on ac over this side of the pond
Very well stated fella about the vertical weld appearance. I personally call the look a ZARRO WELD. Just my personal two cents !!!!!!!
Cheers Jason, ss arc in 316 I get on very well with, good to see different techniques, how's about a bit of stick Ali welding we call em seagull crap rods :-) any tips on getting a nice finish?
so when do we get to see the finished weld rack, its Friday right?
I tried welding stainless many times. 304L pipe with 309L16 stainless rods could never get the puddle to work. Always favored one side resorted to welding with 7018
I 've welded lots of ss.. On vertical use upside down cresent moon shape ...create your shelf first... Then walk the puddle up using the moon shape..but most important........go faster through the middle cutting your bead which will flatten the puddle!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!
Anther good one Jason. Seems like the editor used to put rod size and amperage up on the screen when either one was mentioned. Maybe I'm think of different channel, but regardless I always find it very helpful, many times they are mentioned in different parts of the vid which makes if hard to equate them. Anyway, thx for vid. You da man!
Steve just Steve we did a close up of the machine when we dialed it in.
man I love this video!
Any opinions on doing vertical up? E308L-15, 16, or 17? There seem to be a lot of issues with being out of position when it comes to -17? Any tips on using it or just concede and go to -15?
Thanks,
sir What kind of Electrode is the best for performing rootpass in plate or pipe welding
Do you need to keep stainless steel rods in an oven? RA330, 304L?
Ive used stainless 308 rods to weld tempered steel , the procedure sheet specifies running them way cold and a rod angle of 90 degrees, stringer beads and NO manipulation. If you didnt grind every toe then you would 100% get an inclusion. I would like to see you do a 3F and 4F with a 316L17 rod, those are rough. Great stuff i look forward to the 309 video ive never used them should be interesting
Fuck I gotta do a bunch of 316l 17
That puddle stresses me out. Got a boiler to repair tomorrow morning it’s been awhile for I welded stainless. Thanks!
How about think wall cuni socket welds with tig?
what type of gas did you use?
Awesome Video on Stainless Stick. Not a lot of people even think about "Sticking" Stainless.
I like it on the bigger/thicker stuff, but when it comes to the smaller stuff, I'm gonna Tig it.
Enjoyed this though.. because the 1st time I ever tried to stick Stainless on a Vertical, I was beating my head against the wall, because of exactly what you said. "You cannot trust the story of a Stainless Puddle when stick welding"
Keep up the good work, and you Guys need to start selling Cantesco Ceramic Anti Spatter on your website, because the only way I can find it anywhere is buy the case. It's expensive as hell like that. I'm sure in the log run its cheaper, but it would take me a while to run thru an entire case of it.
I would be down for about 2 cans a month if you Guys would start selling it. I will even Market it for you to all my Welding Buddies so they will buy it from you as well.
I think it has something to do with packaging aerosols, but I will forward that along for sure 👍👍
Phillip Chambers yeah that puddle lies like a rug 😂.
What’s the difference between 308 and 309 stainless? And how would you do a vertical butt weld? I’m having trouble
I learnt mancub taught you something!
Great video as always. Thanks for the info. I’m having cracking when I weld carbon steel to stainless steel. Do you think you can do a video on that with 309L 15, 16, 17. Thanks.
Make sure to tune in next Friday... It's already shot, just needs edited.
Anthony Gonzalez coming right up.
Hell yeah you guys rock!
Jason that welding jacket of yours looks good enough to go out on the town in. So do you wear it while you are out on the town?
Mark Fryer Not yet but that’s a good idea.
What’s a good arc force for vertical stainless weld?
Best description of the metal and rob behavior
Do you guys use a singles HD for the camera?
How can you tell what grade of stainless steel you have,
Jason, any difference welding 316?
-thank you so much!!
Thanks for the tips. I'm in a welding class for my job and i was doing great and loving it until he brought out this 309 shit. I'm horrible at it and getting extremely frustrated so all these kinda vids help.
Is the electrode a -15 or -16?
I trust the puddles I make on 304 but I dont do vertical. Is that an exception?
Will this work with a 3mm stainless steel plate?.. planning on using 2mm welding rod..... I'm afraid i might blow a hole in it.. its a water tank for fire tanks
Good info and suggestions. I hate welding SS any thing (although TIG may change my mind as I learn it). This is the type of content that truly helps. BTW, Cub's smile was way too big with those gloves on...………………………………….
Please mate what camera do u use for your weld shots
Nice 💥
am looking for stainless steel e312
What was the stainless steel grade? And what was stick electrode was used. Very good video as always!
309
Nice job. I learned something again. Hey can you guys do a video for me about Casting welding by chance? Automotive Casting for example what is the best way to fix a broken cast and what to look for in order to know which filler to use for what and what the limits are.
The welding tips and tricks podcast has a segment that's all about welding cast aluminum (and one on cast iron too) that's filled to the brim with info
LSE LLC (Lumanet Solar Energy LLC) I’ll see what I can do.
Jason Becker hey by the way my name is Olaf Becker. I know it is a tricky item but I am certain a lot of people have the same issue out in the field. Bronze does a nice job but on a Car knuckle for example it is way to weak to be used. Just to give you a nice example.
Zachary Kemp can you shoot me the link for it by chance? Obecker@lumanet.info
@@lsellclumanetsolarenergyll5071 I don't have a link for it, I just listen to the podcast on spotify
Thanks brother
To me the weld it flows down , i do not know why?
Make a video on gen welders would be great alot of fellas learn or test on digital inverters then hop on a sae200-400etc. maybe a vid on welders with gears. another on sae 300 settings and mabe then 400 with the different job selector. understanding arc force with old machines. Theres a fella here on utube named "Fieldres"
with a vid "Amperage & Voltage on Welding" that goes into it but i thought it would be great to get Bob,Cub,Beard and the Camera Guys take on it. thanks keep on welding.
Hat's off! I think you did great. stainless stick is very unforgiving.
Yo!!!, I haven't seen you in a while. I'm gonna travel to Sweden (the northern part) in September and going to work there. Just wanted to ask you for some tips. Would it be possible to contact you directly?
Northern Sweden Welding thanks man that means a lot coming from you. I’ve seen your work 🤘🔥
I only work with 309/316/317 you have to take a little longer break . I do around 2,5 sticks on 80 mm
Remember my first time they said it runs just like 7018. In short order I figured out fast it did not and I was welding cut thurs for pipe inserts
Jonathan Watts yeah, it’s completely different than 7018 and it’ll get away on you quick if you let it.
@@GodslilRedneck23 plus I think it 1/16 and 3/32 309. Much rather flux core stainless
Said it before and will say it again if you want to practice s.steel use one of those Chinese 6013 electrodes, get it right with those crap rods then move on to good stuff. Good video you are a great teacher.
The very basic was not discussed.
Which designation electrode did you use.?
There's 15,16,17
15 is all position
Advise what to use and the differences.
Man Cub looked a bit too excited when he pulled that glove on! 😱
James Elderton yeah I was a bit scared 😂
Hi , question for you if i may asked
I am a beginner and now everything is confuse in my head about types of welding rods
Eventhough i have read on the web everywhere i stil don't get a straigh answer
I would like to know a chart with type of work and type of rod that's it from knowledegeable person
Clean cut answer , no amperage or voltage ( this i can get it )
I got comments like , ya you can use this but also use that etc . nothing direct and specific
Experience will show me later on
Thanks in advance
Serge ( from Mtl )
How about 316L vertical?
I'd really love to see someone welding a thin exhaust type pipe with a 1/16th rod.
I'm a kind of guy who freaks out seeing slag, so doctor told me to mig-weld everything! Works fine :D
Do vertical with 312. Theres a tricky one if you've not done it!
Nice beard
Warren Zausa thanks man.
@@GodslilRedneck23 your welcome sir! Learning many things from you guys ☺
Why not use MIG?
Sir ples3g open rot still..
Currently in the process of getting certified for this bullshit process lol. Many people have told me to long arc and drag in vertical. Is this normal for ss stick? It sounds like the exact opposite of what I should be doing.
Where's Bob
Cameron Murdoch he’s house had storm damage so he went to work on it for a bit. He will be back he said.
I actually like running stainless uphill......but I preheat mine so I know the moisture is completely gone
Nice
When we will see Bob back?
Should be in the early fall time.
I've heard legends of a technique called 'overheard welding'
muscle memory still good with me
308 and 309 stick rod are like 7018 after smoking a bowl
Dude, it welds exactly like flux core stainless wire. When you start your puddle and get your foundation started, just quickly weave without pausing. Don't travel up very much at all on your weave. Just make several passes and it will lay in so beautiful without undercut on the sides and no droop. Consistency on your travel speed and width of your weave is the only trick of stick and flux core.
Haha I just had me some Taco bell after an 18 pack I will be wide awake soon!!!
Do one 309 on a monster coupon 6g
309?
Now try this on a thin 1.5 mm plate. What you show in every film on thick material is easy.
