I got thrown into stainless 3g 2 weeks ago, I had to watch this video on break and it helped immensely. I picked it up in a matter of hours but I was skilled with 7018 and other rods/processes previously. End of day 2 there was a crowd gathered around my weld with a head pointing at it and everyone getting in there and eyeing it with props given. Overhead is a whole DIFFERENT animal from there! I need advice on that, do another video if the price of steel ever comes back down and keep welding brother, thanks a bunch!

I want to personally thank you for this video on stainless vertical up. I have never welded stainless steel before and I was told last week Friday that I need to test for stainless steel and carbon mix weld (dissimilar metal) on Tuesday and I was at a totally lost. Well the short of the story is this, you saved the day. I watched this video and I was able to pass the test in one shot. I could hear you throughout the test - 1 2 1 2 1 2. Worked like a charm. Thanks man, you now have brother in Canada👍.

I have a can of 308L stainless rods. I have found they remind me of 7024 in the way they run smoothly (consistent arc) and build up (they love to build up). Very similar also to MG500 as well, though the MG500 is easy to get worm tracks, unlike the stainless 308L. Stainless has it’s own rules for sure. Like how you said let the slag cool. Most people are like whatever I’ll chip it when I’m done, it chips fine..... uh yeah that’s not why you wait. “Why is is blue and purple “. I dunno, chipper.

Watch that slag with stainless. It will pop off and fly 4-5 foot as it cools but it will be hot enough to burn the pee out of you. Scars to prove it! I found myself holding my shirt collar shut and backing up slowly out of habit while watching this excellent video. Going to hit the like button after that bead cools down a bit.

I like it on the bigger/thicker stuff, but when it comes to the smaller stuff, I'm gonna Tig it.
Enjoyed this though.. because the 1st time I ever tried to stick Stainless on a Vertical, I was beating my head against the wall, because of exactly what you said. "You cannot trust the story of a Stainless Puddle when stick welding"
Keep up the good work, and you Guys need to start selling Cantesco Ceramic Anti Spatter on your website, because the only way I can find it anywhere is buy the case. It's expensive as hell like that. I'm sure in the log run its cheaper, but it would take me a while to run thru an entire case of it.

Make a video on gen welders would be great alot of fellas learn or test on digital inverters then hop on a sae200-400etc. maybe a vid on welders with gears. another on sae 300 settings and mabe then 400 with the different job selector. understanding arc force with old machines. Theres a fella here on utube named "Fieldres"
with a vid "Amperage & Voltage on Welding" that goes into it but i thought it would be great to get Bob,Cub,Beard and the Camera Guys take on it. thanks keep on welding.

Remember my first time they said it runs just like 7018. In short order I figured out fast it did not and I was welding cut thurs for pipe inserts

Said it before and will say it again if you want to practice s.steel use one of those Chinese 6013 electrodes, get it right with those crap rods then move on to good stuff. Good video you are a great teacher.

The very basic was not discussed.
Which designation electrode did you use.?
    There's 15,16,17
    15 is all position
Advise what to use and the differences.

Hi , question for you if i may asked
I am a beginner and now everything is confuse in my head about types of welding rods
Eventhough i have read on the web everywhere i stil don't get a straigh answer
I would like to know a chart with type of work and type of rod that's it from knowledegeable person
Clean cut answer , no amperage or voltage ( this i can get it )
I got comments like , ya you can use this but also use that etc . nothing direct and specific
Experience will show me later on
    Thanks in advance

Currently in the process of getting certified for this bullshit process lol. Many people have told me to long arc and drag in vertical. Is this normal for ss stick? It sounds like the exact opposite of what I should be doing.

  • @justinmcwaters4962

Dude, it welds exactly like flux core stainless wire. When you start your puddle and get your foundation started, just quickly weave without pausing. Don't travel up very much at all on your weave. Just make several passes and it will lay in so beautiful without undercut on the sides and no droop. Consistency on your travel speed and width of your weave is the only trick of stick and flux core.
