I'm paying for welding school and I am stuck on vertical weld. My instructors didn't mention to keep the rod 10-15 degrees. Today was a waste of 3 hours. Tomorrow will be much better after watching this video
I've worked 14 Days and Thanksgiving off, Industrial Electrician. Welding is a Joy of mine and, this Video was very relaxing... We all deal with stress & Fatigue in our own way.
The white board is tool that remains an awesome format to state the task, standard, and conditions. The board shows the welding patterns and makes very clear what is covered. You identify some of the common mistakes and its great. Along the way you provide detailed performance steps to successfully create the desired welds. Really nice. TY
As soon as this guy started talking I said to myself: "He was an NCO in the Marine Corps." Nobody else in the world talks like that. Then I saw the tat'. Haha! Semper Fi, Brother!
If you drape the whip of the stinger over your shoulder you can set it to help keep your arm position and it will reduce weight on your hand. That's especially helpful welding one handed.
not going to lie i have been looking for a better video for welding and this is the best i have ever watch and i hope this really helps other people too this is better than my welding instructor showing me how to do this we are already on mig but i want to be good at stick before i try to do up hill on mig too i really hope this video gets to the people that look for this type of stuff
not to disparage my instructors but they obviously just fell into it and dont really know how to teach, this was a thousand times more helpful than the demonstrations i got in the shop thanks man
Millwright apprentice and thank you for showing the multiple weaving methods, didn’t know you needed to keep your weave that tight it helped me kept the puddle flowing up better.
Thanks for the summarised overview of techniques and demonstrating them with live drawings! It really makes it way easier to see what you mean one should be doing, before switching to the weld puddle camera.
This is Exactly what I got on my phone to look for and it popped up thanks guys y’all are legit !! For a young student welder in west texas this is plenty of help !! God bless
I am training welders, i like this video a lot. The one pattern of manipulation you left out is my favorite. it is the upside down U, pausing at the comers and moving quickly through the center. 12:05 This pattern pushes the the slag out of the way. I use the normal U with E6010 & 6011. Give it a try. 😊
you were very clear on this video I'm glad i found it. practicing for my 3/4 g and I have to say you have to be one of the best I've seen at explaining the basics such as where the rod needs to go and how to weave properly. everyone says u can't weave unless it's very minute u mainly wanna be running stringers and that advice made almost no sense until this video where you actually showed how small those weaves rly are their barely there. can't wait to try some of these techniques tonight.
Nice explanation. Just learning on the farm and am amazed by how precise welding must be. One thing I find kinda funny is that almost without exception welding instructors say to pause for two seconds and then show how it’s done and say “one two” in half a second. No one says, “one thousand and one, one thousand and two.” 🙂. But I appreciate why (I think), because as I’ve been learning, one of the most difficult things to do is slow the heck down. Especially vertical up 7018 (which I want to be able to do well because welding tractor stuff rarely presents stuff on a welding table), where the slag is flowing a lot… just makes me run away uphill and wreck everything. Practice! Lots of scrap metal with beads on it around here!
I'm in the same vote. . . .learning how to weld here in my shop with the "buzz box" arc welder using the 1/8" 6013 & 1/8" 7018 stick! My brother, who's been welding for close to 25-30yrs, has taught me the initial startup & basics so that I can go out here in the shop & practice EVERY DAY! I have alot of practice beads laid out on scrap, scrap pieces welded together, I have square & round tubing that I've cut in half with the chop saw & welded back together, I have holes that I've filled in with puddle, & I have already built a tiny, flatbed, toy trailer about a 1ft 1/2 long out of angle & square tubing! I wannuh learn this verticle up as well as down! I also wannuh learn how to do the whole mig/tig wire feed welding. Im having a blast out here in the shop, practicing & learning/ learnikg & practicing😃😃😃! Happy welding to ya my friend. . . .PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, HEY???😃😃😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I've been practicing 1G (horizontal flat) beads & I ketch myself doing the same thing. . . .hold my breath or just forget to breath! I'm just like you, can't figure it out. . . .unless it's like total total concentration or something. . . .I dunno🤷🤷🤷
Sir your are great ! I have learn a lot on how you execute on how to do the proper way of doing the different essential welding , THANK YOU VERY MUCH & I HOPE YOU WILL CONTINUE ON TEACHING MORE TECHNIQUE ABOUT WELDING . GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY .
tried this recently. It definitely helped. I was making the C's as best I could 1/16" inch from the previous one. when I was done, I wacked the slag off and it came off in two chunks. Barely pushed the rod up as I watched the puddle. One thing I found was I had the ground right next to my elbow which I used to stabilize myself. I felt the tingling of the electricity going through my shirt. Ended up putting the ground on the other side.
Absolutely excellent tutorial you’re not bullshitting around about anything you get straight to the point you don’t have a big long lead in deal you get straight to the point you definitely are good at what you do and I definitely learned some stuff from you my name is Jim mungai from Kennerdell a Pennsylvania thank you sir

Thank you brother for all your helpful information. I'm a union ironworker. I watch all ur videos. I'm just starting out and I'm Killin it. My instructor told me today that's fukin nice. Haha.
Thank you for the instruction brother, it turns out I wasn’t continuing the upward motion while pausing on the edges! I was stopping in place! 🤦🏻♂️ You’re the best!
His accent is funny , but he’s mad cool 😎. Smart guy. Thanks for tips and weldtube products look like the exact stuff I been searching all stores for. Please drop the merch
I would also like to see a video with 1/8" rod...you are a great teacher...explanations paired with the video...paired with the timings and numbers...and your use of color is great! You really hit all the learning styles... (I'm waiting for the sound effects...someday maybe). I'm a special education teacher and really appreciate people like you who use lots of different learning styles.
I always have to put a little stick movement in not a weave but my instructor called it a twitch but it helps me get good beads that are clean and no indercut , I have been lucky in the fact I have been pretty good with 7018 but I also learned on 6010 so I think that helps a lot , so anyone new do 6010 first all positions because it takes a lot of stick manipulation so when you move to 7018 it helps so much
Thank you for this video i earn a full confidence to go and face my pre asssessment fo welding i hope you upload more video ang tips and ill keep tune for that
Hi I really like your video I might rewatch again because there’s a lot to take in and I don’t know which one to adopt and make it mine and that leads me to my question which one is best and why and while I am asking questions do you have any tips for someone who has tremors I shake quite badly and yet I love welding but if you were my teacher I think you would have to fail me but I keep trying 😀 Keep up the great videos you are very gifted and I appreciate the fact that your willing to help people for free on UA-cam so carry on and keep up the good work!!!
I watch your videos all the time i love them and I learn a lot from them I’m 14 and I weld on pipe fence and I’m thinking of going to MWI when I get out of hs
Great information I wish I wouldn’t have paid and still paying for school , on the job training is so much better. But this school has definitely the best set up for success in the trade . I’ll support anything that drives the passion for welding in general . Good help is hard to find
I think for beginners the arc flash is most important. Maintaining the correct arc through the weld is the first thing to get right. Beginners think pushing is pressing the stick into the metal and it isn’t.
I'm still learning uphill welds and noticed last time I practiced that pressing in too far would cause the puddle to get displaced and start overflowing, causing lumping, it's definitely watching the puddle that shows this though, it almost feels like you use the upward tilted stick as a support to hold your puddle in place.
Thanks man. I got a welding test Friday for a job. They said it's vertical up. That's all I know. Which method do you suggest I use. Im going to have to practice on my mig before Friday but the test is stick. And. The test, do you think they are going to x-ray it or pressure test it? Which method should I utilize. Thank you so much tho for the video. I need this job bad... I can weld exhaust on cars like a gangster. This can't be much harder.. right lol
I'm new to welding but I'm doing a straight push up with about a horizontal to 15°push. On the top of my vertical I have a hard time keeping iþ clean can u demonstrate the the finish pull off?
