I'm paying for welding school and I am stuck on vertical weld. My instructors didn't mention to keep the rod 10-15 degrees. Today was a waste of 3 hours. Tomorrow will be much better after watching this video
How did it go.
You're not wasting time. It takes time to get better.
Mad skills bro. As an instructor, I can appreciate the multiple methods of weaving you show.
Dude you explained this better than my actual instructor in class. Thanks 🔥👍
I agree
Right…?
I always catch myself holding my breath. Im not sure why but i notice myself getting unsteady and realize im holding my breath.
Your comment was 2 years ago did you get over this? I’m new to welding school and I catch myself doing this
@@danleonardoyo3946try not to hold it I notice it too in my welding class I get unsteady try to breathe and do it practice practice
Been a welder now for 7 years
But still enjoy watching these videos.
Keep up the teaching!
Hola, algun video en posicion 3f para recomendar?. O de tu experiencia Gracias
As soon as this guy started talking I said to myself: "He was an NCO in the Marine Corps." Nobody else in the world talks like that. Then I saw the tat'. Haha! Semper Fi, Brother!
I've worked 14 Days and Thanksgiving off, Industrial Electrician. Welding is a Joy of mine and, this Video was very relaxing... We all deal with stress & Fatigue in our own way.
I never went to welding school and recently started welding. These videos help out a lot. Thanks for the information
The timing on this is perfect. Practicing stick for my 3G and 4G tests this week. Much appreciated 🙏
It’s a year later but did you pass bro?
@@yxunggbray9930 probably yeah, I’m on 2g going to 3g n it’s can say I hate 2g 😭
But we running 6010 first n after 4g we going into 7018
capybara profile pics for the win!
If you drape the whip of the stinger over your shoulder you can set it to help keep your arm position and it will reduce weight on your hand. That's especially helpful welding one handed.
Always good to get to the foundation and know the basics great video!
I instantly got better after watching this! My angle was the problem. Thanks for the tips brother!
Thanks for the summarised overview of techniques and demonstrating them with live drawings! It really makes it way easier to see what you mean one should be doing, before switching to the weld puddle camera.
Man that’s a slick lookin hood
That’s what she said
This is the BEST info on "straight up" I've seen !!! 😃😃😃 Thanks
I always come back to this. I've been welding for years but every now and then I just have to go back to basics and calm my self down.
This is Exactly what I got on my phone to look for and it popped up thanks guys y’all are legit !! For a young student welder in west texas this is plenty of help !! God bless
I am training welders, i like this video a lot. The one pattern of manipulation you left out is my favorite. it is the upside down U, pausing at the comers and moving quickly through the center. 12:05 This pattern pushes the the slag out of the way. I use the normal U with E6010 & 6011.
Give it a try. 😊
Best vertical instruction video I’ve ever seen! Thanks man
Absolutely excellent tutorial you’re not bullshitting around about anything you get straight to the point you don’t have a big long lead in deal you get straight to the point you definitely are good at what you do and I definitely learned some stuff from you my name is Jim mungai from Kennerdell a Pennsylvania thank you sir
Thanks so much for the holding techniques in the beginning of the video. Super helpful.
not to disparage my instructors but they obviously just fell into it and dont really know how to teach, this was a thousand times more helpful than the demonstrations i got in the shop thanks man
The white board is tool that remains an awesome format to state the task, standard, and conditions. The board shows the welding patterns and makes very clear what is covered. You identify some of the common mistakes and its great. Along the way you provide detailed performance steps to successfully create the desired welds.
Really nice. TY
you were very clear on this video I'm glad i found it. practicing for my 3/4 g and I have to say you have to be one of the best I've seen at explaining the basics such as where the rod needs to go and how to weave properly. everyone says u can't weave unless it's very minute u mainly wanna be running stringers and that advice made almost no sense until this video where you actually showed how small those weaves rly are their barely there. can't wait to try some of these techniques tonight.
You are a good teacher and you also have a golden touch.
That was the best example an explanation I have come across mate, cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Nice clear and concise video bro. Thanks!
May god bless you man its my first time to listen and understanding hw to weld vertical up
Best welding tutorial I’ve ever seen. Also respect the Moto Tatt. Semper Fi
Great help, these little tricks are held so dear to most welders. Valuable lesson, thanks Bill Riggan virginia
Great tutorial, excellent teaching beautiful result.
Rosendo, very helpful. Particularly helped me control my steadiness .
I have a test. This helped me tremendously! Showing to movements on the board was the best! God bless you!!

Nice explanation. Just learning on the farm and am amazed by how precise welding must be. One thing I find kinda funny is that almost without exception welding instructors say to pause for two seconds and then show how it’s done and say “one two” in half a second. No one says, “one thousand and one, one thousand and two.” 🙂. But I appreciate why (I think), because as I’ve been learning, one of the most difficult things to do is slow the heck down. Especially vertical up 7018 (which I want to be able to do well because welding tractor stuff rarely presents stuff on a welding table), where the slag is flowing a lot… just makes me run away uphill and wreck everything. Practice! Lots of scrap metal with beads on it around here!
I'm in the same vote. . . .learning how to weld here in my shop with the "buzz box" arc welder using the 1/8" 6013 & 1/8" 7018 stick! My brother, who's been welding for close to 25-30yrs, has taught me the initial startup & basics so that I can go out here in the shop & practice EVERY DAY! I have alot of practice beads laid out on scrap, scrap pieces welded together, I have square & round tubing that I've cut in half with the chop saw & welded back together, I have holes that I've filled in with puddle, & I have already built a tiny, flatbed, toy trailer about a 1ft 1/2 long out of angle & square tubing! I wannuh learn this verticle up as well as down! I also wannuh learn how to do the whole mig/tig wire feed welding. Im having a blast out here in the shop, practicing & learning/ learnikg & practicing😃😃😃! Happy welding to ya my friend. . . .PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, HEY???😃😃😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Haha, it's not so much 2 seconds I think, just for consist timing you use a count and a count to 1 doesn't do much hey
It's a very informative channel. Thank you so much
Thank you for this video i earn a full confidence to go and face my pre asssessment fo welding i hope you upload more video ang tips and ill keep tune for that
Pretty cool looking Hood 😍 it's pretty light or a little bit haviery. Very interesting Welding teary 👏👏👏
Thank you for the instruction brother, it turns out I wasn’t continuing the upward motion while pausing on the edges! I was stopping in place! 🤦🏻♂️ You’re the best!
You are a great teacher 👍🏻
Daaaaamn!!! So THAT'S what a weld is supposed to look like. 😍🤣
Awesome video, Bro... please keep up the good work! 👍👌👏
As always…..great video. Thanks
Amazing.... thank you so much for give us knowledge thanks please keep it up
Awesome welding, thank you!
Mr Rodriguez thanks for teaching bro very helpful

Thanks for teaching very nice descustion sir.
Fantastic explanation thank you very much
Very nice tutorial sir..😊😊watching from Philippines😊😊
thank you very much for youre very clear tutorial.
Another great video 👍
In school right now, your videos are great. In school, all we do is drag the 7018, I did not know you could use different methods with that rod.
Great instructions!! 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent information!
Another tip is to take as much weight off the rod holder by looping welding lead up high as possible taking weight off
I can’t tell you how many times my weld lead hung up and messed me up. Good advice!
The favorite view 👾Thank you guys
Very helpful and great technics thank you
I learn a good lesson from you thank you so much
This video is very good. Thank you.
Great vid bro thanks tipzz helps out alot 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
thanks you for the tips on runnibg the 15 degree... i just corrected a mistake i missed!! Aloha!!
excellent rosendo tutorial
I always have to put a little stick movement in not a weave but my instructor called it a twitch but it helps me get good beads that are clean and no indercut , I have been lucky in the fact I have been pretty good with 7018 but I also learned on 6010 so I think that helps a lot , so anyone new do 6010 first all positions because it takes a lot of stick manipulation so when you move to 7018 it helps so much
Muchísimas gracias Rosendo tremenda enseñanza
Love the video brother. Rah!
Lifesaver, thanks so much!!!
Good job Rosendo thanks
Great instruction! Thanks!
tried this recently. It definitely helped. I was making the C's as best I could 1/16" inch from the previous one. when I was done, I wacked the slag off and it came off in two chunks. Barely pushed the rod up as I watched the puddle. One thing I found was I had the ground right next to my elbow which I used to stabilize myself. I felt the tingling of the electricity going through my shirt. Ended up putting the ground on the other side.
Very usefull i try it tomorow thnx man
Hi I really like your video I might rewatch again because there’s a lot to take in and I don’t know which one to adopt and make it mine and that leads me to my question which one is best and why and while I am asking questions do you have any tips for someone who has tremors I shake quite badly and yet I love welding but if you were my teacher I think you would have to fail me but I keep trying 😀
Keep up the great videos you are very gifted and I appreciate the fact that your willing to help people for free on UA-cam so carry on and keep up the good work!!!
I am from Bangladesh.. Love this Channel
Muchas gracias por sus videos son de mucha ayuda dios los bendiga 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
I watch your videos all the time i love them and I learn a lot from them I’m 14 and I weld on pipe fence and I’m thinking of going to MWI when I get out of hs
1/8" is harder to control than 3/32", can you do a video with larger rod? Thanks
slight wiggle as you go uphill will keep it from crowning up. its more like a seizure as u go up
i/8 rod u have to move faster if u dont it will stick
I would also like to see a video with 1/8" rod...you are a great teacher...explanations paired with the video...paired with the timings and numbers...and your use of color is great! You really hit all the learning styles... (I'm waiting for the sound effects...someday maybe). I'm a special education teacher and really appreciate people like you who use lots of different learning styles.
No. 1/8” is easier to control than 3/32”
@@CoolHandLuke002 No its not lol, what are you talking aboit man
