It's always the small things that separate the men from the boys because they are the hardest to find, everybody can see the big stuff. Great tips mate, hats off to ya.

Also, make sure you're moving fast enough so that you don't get excessive heat.

Great information, thanks. I would never have guessed that could be the cause of my shitty grey welds. I'm soon to start practising with new welder at work, so I've found your video at just the right time.

Hello from the USA. Great work on the videos you have posted. Your SS welding video came up in my UA-cam feed today and I subscribed to your channel. I would be interested in learning more about your TIG setup, gloves, helmet, & welder. Keep it up and you will be to 100k subscribers soon.

Question. You mentioned you like a long stickout but if you are a beginner it would be better to have a much shorter one. Why is that? Thx. Enjoyed your video

You'll find you will touch the tungsten a lot so by having it closer in when you are learning will save you trips to the linisher haha

Thanks for this! hit my question on why for sure my weld was grey when done! Bought SS T304 and SS 308L, had the argon post flow set good BUT only had the #5 cup with kit/welder... I kinda knew it was oxidation from the small cup but wasn't sure if the SS tube was shit or what? I prepped the SS fit up and acetone cleaned BUT unfortunately had to cut with a chop saw... wasn't sure if I was destined for failure from the get go as the abrasive wheel may have already put to much heat into the SS tube? All good as I bought a blade for SS for the bandsaw and it's cutting good clean cuts now.
Weird though my first SS tube passes (exhaust scrap cut from the ends of unused cat) without filler actually came out clean and colorful with the #5 cup which had me second guessing the new SS 3" tubing I just got.
Just got my gas lense, 2x pink 12" "fupa" cups and 1x 14"? glass cup. going to get on it again today and see how it goes.
Got a bunch of Stainless Bros SS tube/V-band/exhaust valve and I don't want to screw this up!🤞

Nice! Yes, always a good idea to practice and experiment with settings, amps etc on some scraps or some cheap coupons before you light up on some expensive parts! Don't forget to clean your filler rod with some acetone too, even new rods straight out of the tube have grey dirt on them.

How about why does my rod turn red hot all the way back into the torch? Trying to start on some 1/4" material so i can practice just dialing in and starts and stops. No idea why the rod gets instanly red.
Figured if i practice with thicker material, it wouldnt burn through while i try getti g techneque good

I appreciate this. Inhad been watching other channels and convinced that i needed to get a yellow weld with a shit collet boddy and a number 7 cup. I have been doing everything to stop heat, and my welds are not burning through but still grey. I get my gas lense set i a couple of days. Hope this helps.

Pro tip - use a microphone closer when recording in the shop. Between the echo and your accent it's hard for some ears to understand your audio. Otherwise all good information but lacking a demo as mentioned elsewhere here. Thanks

It's good info, but what a lot of videos don't emphasize is heat input.
Through trial and error, if you are putting a lot of heat into the metal, it's not going to matter how much gas you are shooting out, the size of your cups, etc. If your metal is looking like it just came out of a blacksmith forge, you put too much heat into it.
For thin stainless, very high current (100 amps for 1mm thick stainless), very fast travel time, and pulsing will really reduce that heat input, allowing you to weld thin stainless with a minimum of distortion and heat input. Low heat input means your weld comes out looking shiny.
Learn to do this before you rush out and buy some huge gas lens and waste a ton of gas trying to figure out why your metal comes out looking like a blacksmith forge. If it's doing that, you're doing something wrong.
Obviously if you are welding thicker stainless, then you don't need quite so much amperage, like for 3mm 100 amps without pulse would work.
